Mrs. Oyster's Picture
Mrs. Oyster, Dallas Age and Occupation: 30, Music Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 46, Art Teacher Engagement Date: January 9, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: The Tower Club About Me: I'm a Texa-Californian with a penchant for sparkly things and a tendency to think a lot. I've been known to sing random songs or dance when there is no music on. My fiance and I love world culture, we love to travel, and we have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with our family & closest friends. We're planning an “urban black-tie” wedding and hope to incorporate our personalities and some of our own interests. We look forward to a life of love, laughter, good music, beautiful art, and to creating our home together with our four (!) cats.
About Mrs. Oyster

Push Me, Pull You

March 27th, 2010 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Oyster

In the early months of planning, I was a little agitated because negotiations with our intended venue seemed to be a bust. Each time we talked with them, we wound up with more questions than answers. We loved this place and wanted to make it work for us.

So I jumped online to look at some backup options (being prepared to walk away, whether you state it or not, is always a good bargaining chip) and found some great ideas, and then got sidetracked by—what else?—wedding photography.

I remembered what I always promised I’d do while planning my wedding, and that is to focus on what the wedding is all about.

As long as our guests are happy, and we’re happy, and there’s good music, good food, and good photography, what else matters? It could be in a barn or in the rain and as long as we have these things, it will be a wonderful & memorable wedding.

Here is the shot that helped me remember that (taken while the bride says goodnight to her mom):

As far as I am concerned, I want to event to reflect who I am, who my H2B is, and who we are as a couple. So it’s about aesthetics, great garments, great food and cozy conversations.

Aw, that’s such a sweet picture!! For us, it’s all about the quality of food–we want to feed our guests well and really treat them to something special for coming to celebrate with us.

Most important being to have a wedding that is “us”, not dictated by tradition nor trends. 2nd was photography :)

Food & music-gotta keep the people happy! (Oh and photography and booze of course. Our “ride” was a big priority for me as well.)

MARRYING MY MAN is #1; then photography, then music. :-) LOVE the picture!

The big thing for us was photography and that not only we had a good time, but so did our guests. If we made that our goal, everything would fall in place (and it has).
