Sash Wars

March 28th, 2010 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

I just had my second fitting today, which means it’s time for the second installation of sash wars.

I brought along the organza sash my mom made and the grosgrain ribbon. I was amazed at what a different feel the dress had with each one.

If I do choose the organza, we’ll cut down the width by two or three inches — so those tails won’t be quite as wide. But I can’t decide!

Which sash would you choose?

the organza just makes it look gorgeous. to me the grosgrain is so common with a lot of bows on dresses and the organza seems so much more unique and gives it that oomph.

It’s kind of choosing between pouffy and delicate. I think the volume of the skirt lends itself to a more delicate ribbon.

It’s an impossible choice though, both are gorgeous! I vote grosgrain by a smidge!

I like the different texture of the grosgrain! The organza looks a little overwhelming imho. Although you mentioned you planned on cutting down the width a bit on the organza, maybe I’ll like it more with a thinner width!

I love the organza - I just think it works so well with the flowy-ness of the skirt of the dress!

I love the grosgrain! With the organza, there seems to be a little too much of that type of material considering the skirt of your dress.

I like the grosgrain. The opacity looks much richer. My only suggestion is that maybe it should be a little bit wider?

organza-but you have to make it a little narrower.

the grosgrain just gives you this richer and more elegant look. i think the organza bow just takes away from the dress. where as the grosgrain makes you and your dress pop all that more!

I voted “organza” but it definitely needs to be narrower.
Also, have you tried layering both the organza and the grosgrain? Then you could have both.

The organza adds a pretty touch. The grosgrain is just a bit too dark and solid looking. And I love the length in the organza. I wouldn’t cut down the width too much either, it makes a beautiful bow.

I love whatever the one is in the first pic. The other is just seems like too much when paired with the rest of the dress. The narrower ribbon seems classier to me and it looks like it was made to go with the dress!

organza, but it needs to be thinned out a bit.

Would I be bad if I said no sash?

Love the organza!! It makes it a bit different from a lot of sashes you see these days, and I think it’s just perfect for that dress.

You look beautiful, by the way!!

Thinner organza, or thicker grosgrain! ;)

@heather25: I agree. My vote is no sash, the dress is beautiful without it.
