Loving the Lush

March 29th, 2010 @ 1:10 pm by Mrs. Pencils

Lush, luscious, lovely les fleurs. That’s what we Pencils immersed ourselves in a few weekends back. We went on a flower scouting trip with Mr. P’s grandmother, who has graciously agreed to make our reception centerpieces, to the local flower mart. It was cold but fun! Even if you’re not doing your own flowers, I recommend visiting a wholesale flower shop. We were surrounded by such wonderful flowers on a dreary March day!

We were looking for lush round flowers to go with our square vases at the reception tables. We found some great possibilities! Of course, all I had was my Blackberry camera, so please forgive:

Yummy ranunculus.

Pretty peonies!

We also found some “mini mums” in the best vibrant green:

And a long time favorite, gerbera daisies:

Mr. Pencils’ grandmother pointed out that I was going for round flowers to juxtapose with the square vases. I hadn’t realized it, but it’s absolutely true!

We also changed one thing while there. Instead of river rocks in the bottom of the vases, we are going to wrap some of these in to create a sweet rustic look!

And one final parting look:

Have you made any last minute changes to wedding decor when you saw what was available? What’s your favorite flower?

umm, I second Miss Ribbons - where is the flower market of which you speak? My mom and I are planning on doing my flowers for my wedding in a couple of months (here in DC), and we haven’t figured out where we’re getting the flowers from yet!! Would really appreciate a name or address :)

I’m doing something similar. We have a local flower farm that we booked for our flowers with and are going to go with whatever is in season. Your flowers are beautiful!

We have a wholesale flowre market here in Portland, apparently, but you have to be an actual florist with a license and everything to even get in!! I’m curious though– how much were things like bunches of peonies and ranunculus? (If you don’t mind me asking!)

Lily of the valley fo’ sho (used in my teeny tiny bouquet only). I like roses and in bulk they are cheap and easy-so roses it was for everything else. Gave the wedding a classic, traditional feel that I was going for. (I also love gerberas and peonies).
