Made Up with Makeup

March 29th, 2010 @ 5:35 pm by Mrs. Pencils

Like many other May brides, I have recently engaged in my hair and makeup trials. Mine took place at the wonderful Belleza Hair and Nail Salon. I’d have to give the trials a solid plus rating; I saw some stuff I liked, the women who will be doing my wedding style are wonderful, and I know exactly what the small changes are that I’ll want for real run.

I walked into my makeup trial with images many have used before me:

I wear eyeliner and mascara every day, so I know that for my wedding eyes to be more dramatic, I’ll have to go big or go home. Hilary and Taylor may be a tad too dark, but Mischa looks about perfect.

Pencils trial tip: Make sure your printer has enough ink to print clear pictures. Mine did not and I didn’t realize it until it was too late and I was an hour away from my trial. The photos I brought were somewhat hard to see, especially the makeup examples!

I began the day with this naked face:

I landed in the makeup chair and couldn’t resist a face:

With my hazel eyes, the makeup artist Alexandra and I agreed to go with the most complementary eyeshadow tones—mauves and purples. The first try was dramatic but a bit… too defined and blunt:

So we smudged and rubbed and blended a bit until I had this:

I love my shimmery lips.

Two hours later and in natural light:

And finally, eight hours later in my jammies:

The lips are gone and it’s a bit shiny, but overall, pretty great!

The small changes I’ll ask for on the wedding day:

  1. a bit heavier on the eyeliner- not too crazy, but more defined/darker
  2. a bit more blending up and down of the purple/mauve eyeshadow
  3. more mascara please! (to go with the fake eyelashes I’ll be donning)
  4. a bit more foundation/powder to reduce shine as the night wears on

Any other changes you recommend?

Great that it held up all day! I agree with your suggestions - I think a little more blending around the eyes and you will look absolutely gorgeous :)

The look they gave you there is rather natural so I agree with the heavier on the liner and adjusting the blend. Are there things to use to reduce perspiration? I could have swore miss scissors mentioned something during her e-shoot makeup prep. Something like that might help to keep you from having to keep applying powder, esp as powder brushes generally dust what ever is under your face (aka dress) with powder as well.

I think you look great! And it helps that you’re beautiful even without makeup!

Ditto to Miss Hamster - yay for the makeup upholding all day and definitely more definition on the eye makeup!

Great and love the suggestions for the final look—-what about some oil sheets to help with the sheen so you don’t keep caking on powder and risk it getting on your dress? Also, I think I’ve heard before about girls using a primer or something under their foundation/powder so it helps grab the makeup.

I think you look awesome! Can they give you a sample of the lip gloss to reapply?

Looks great, but you’re right-the eyeshadow was kinda runway model and needs more blending. Other than that-it’s a bingo!

You look fabulous!! Agree to more blending and mascara, but I’m an eyelash girl, so of course I would say that. :)

Pencils is so preeetttyyyy!! You are gorgeous, and I agree a little darker on the upper eyeliner will be fabulous! Also I was totally shiny after like 2 hours, so if you find a secret, share please!

hmm. maybe consider how the colors would look in harsh daylight too. mauves/purples used dramatically may also make the eye look bruised!

I know this might be mean but I cannot even believe that is a picture of Mischa Barton! She was soooo beautiful back then! It makes me sad for her now– she is obviously struggling with things.

pretty! you have such a beautiful smile :)

lip stain under the gloss so when it wears off you won’t lose all the lip color?

You look gorgeous! :) I agree with the blending around your eyes and adding a bit more liner, but it looks awesome and it held up all day! And again…you’re beautiful without makeup so this is just adding to it!
