About Mrs. Hamster

I was organizing my “Wedding” folder on my laptop, and I found this treasure I had created way back when with my trusty design tool… Microsoft PowerPoint:

The Story of the Little Map That Had Nowhere to Go : wedding nyc stationery Map01 map01

It doesn’t look like much, but I had spent an inordinate amount of time on it - due to my general creative ineptitude more than anything else. I was hoping to include them with the invitations, the out-of-town guest welcome bags, or somewhere else.

There were just a few small problems:

  1. They literally did not fit in our invitation suite. The paper I used for our invitations is so thick that the poor envelopes are straining at their seams. There wasn’t room for even a piece of tissue paper in there!
  2. We aren’t having out-of-town guest welcome bags. I was really looking forward to making welcome bags, but it turns out almost all of our out-of-town guests are bunking up with friends and family. Yay for them, boo for my map.

So now this poor map has found itself ousted from the Hammy wedding. Sad! I really like it, in a “pre-schooler beaming with pride at her finger-painted masterpiece” kind of way - it’s a little rudimentary, but I made it. :)

How, if at all, can I incorporate this map into our wedding? Should I just cut my losses on this one?

Have you had to scrap any DIY creations?

We don’t have a wedding website!!! :( I’m so web illiterate, I think it might take a while to put one together too, even with all the free ready-to-go ones out there. Good suggestion if we had one though! Hmm…

Email it to people who might get lost?

Maybe send it as a postcard to people who RSVP yes with a “Can’t wait until you’re here to celebrate with us!” message? It’d be the extra printing/postage cost, but could be a fun touch and a way to show it off!

Are you doing your rehearsal at the Pierre? If you’ll be sending separate rehearsal dinner invites, maybe it could go with them?

we are passing out our maps after the ceremony so people will know how to get to the reception venue!

maybe this will work for you? unless you have the entire thing at once place…

We put our extra maps (we included ours with our invites) in a basket at the ceremony so people would know where the reception was and how to get to it.

Oh, I really like the post card idea from Miss Scarlet, not sure if you want to send out something else, but it’s so cute, it deserves to be seen!

We attempted a map too, and it just wasn’t working, ours looks pitiful compared to yours :)

We are having ours resting on the pews at the church and it’s a “Place To Go and Things to Do” with our favorite spots for shopping, grabbing a drink, siteseeing, etc. Could you do something like that?
We thought about putting them in the programs but I didn’t want to take away from the purpose of it.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Way more creative than anything I could think of (which was…nothing). The ceremony and reception will be held at the same place, but I like Miss Scarlett’s idea - I’ll have to look into it!
