Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

What’s in a Name?

March 29th, 2010 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So, I was thinking about this the other day: I really wish my wedding dress had a cool name like other dresses that I hear about. “Oh, I’m wearing the Marisa,” or, “I’m wearing the Lola.” Is there one named Lola? I have no idea, but if there was, it would be way better than my dress, which is named 1900. Yep, 1900. I get that it’s practical and it’s probably the stock number, but why couldn’t Mr. Casablanca (I’m assuming it was he who made the decision to name my dress) get a little more creative?

Don’t take this post to mean that I’m not in love with my dress, I assure you that I am, BUT, I think I would love it even more if it had a catchy, cool girl name. Perhaps something Moroccan? Maybe Laila, Zahra or even Amina. Or if they have shoes or dresses named Kelsey (my name) I am automatically drawn to them.

How cool would it be if you fell in love with a wedding dress that shared your name? It would be like it was made specifically for you without that custom price tag, like this dress:

Sigh.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion Mr. Casablanca. Please don’t take offense, I truly do love your work.

Does your wedding dress have a name or just a number? If you were to name your dress, what would you call it?

Yes!! I share my name with an Amsale dress, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I tried it on because of that. :)

Mine just has a number, which is pretty boring but I won’t hold it against the designer — I still love it! :)

Funny thing - - my dress does have a name, Rennes….And the two dresses I was torn between were Rennes and Lola, haahaahaa Both are by Rivini. In the end Rennes won!!!! I think you should name your dress, have you?

You can name your dress whatever you think her name should be. If that seems odd to you, know that my car has a name (L.J. for Lil’ Jetta). Actually my FI’s car has a name too (Jesse)! So, it’s really not that weird to name inanimate objects.

Mine is Amelia.

I have a weird name so I doubt I share my name with any wedding dresses ;o)

My dress is just a number—but I guess it really doesn’t bother me much. Ever thought of just giving your dress a name because you want to? I know some people give their cars names :)

Mine is called the Fontaine, which I actually don’t really care for too much, so I never call the dress by it’s name…

Your dress being only a style # just means you get to come up with the name yourself. Otherwise you might have fallen in love with something called Gertrude or Ethel - or worse a dress that shares a name with someone unpleasant from your past like that girl that made fun of you in middle school or the girl that your fiance lost his virginity to. There are all sorts of ways getting a prenamed dress could be awkward…

I have Julianna, and I love that she has a name, so I see where you’re coming from. The weird thing is, I never thought I would think twice about it. Hmm, I have too much time on my hands, maybe?

Yeah I’m wearing the Casablanca 1900. Never really pondered the name.

Mine is named Sophia. It’s a sweet name. Also, we have the same name!! (except mine is spelled Kelcie…nobody every spells it correctly and sometimes I get called Kel-eese…weird.) Anyway, I think J. Crew recently had Kelsey shoes. They were obviously very cute. ; )

You should give your dress a name. Why not?

I have a fairly rare name (Kaylie) and I found out that there’s a really awful British love some named Kaleigh. It’s the worst song I’ve ever heard but I still like it because it has my name in it.

Mine was just a number and come to think of it, I don’t think I share my name with any wedding dresses. I did find a couch that shares my name yesterday, though! Oh and our dining room table is a letter of from sharing our last name, lol!

I just have a number, and even then I can’t find it! I got my dress from the Running of the Brides, and I have no idea what number it is. It would be nice to know what collection it came from.

I share my name with my dress! My sister said I had to get it because it was “calling my name” and meant to be :)

Mine is called Metis (?????), if I were to give it a name I’d probably call it Mist because it’s light and “dotty” like a mist

I share a name with an Amsale dress and a Maggie Sottero dress, but neither of them are my style. That would be amazing to share a name with your own dress!

I’m a 1900 too. And I hadn’t really thought about naming the dress but since I name everything else I’m sure I’ll have to come up with one. I guess she could just be “Cassie” (as in short for Casablanca.)

Mine has a name, but I am not really in love with it. Fanal? Supposedly it means “beacon” or “torch.” I guess it is appropriate since the dress is a little Statute of Liberty-esque.
