Mrs. Taco's Picture
Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
About Mrs. Taco

Mr. Taco bought a URL for us a long time ago, since we already had some intermittent discussions about our “wedding website”. The logical step for those who like planning ahead (me) and those with a storied history of compulsive URL-purchasing (him), was to just buy the website and determine its content later.

To preserve that Tacolicious anonymity, note that our website includes both of our first names, separated with an n instead of and. Think rock ‘n roll vs. rock and roll.

The and version of said website is taken by people who aren’t us. It’s been taken since 2002, hence our decision to go with our n version. We don’t know them, other than what we learned by poking around their site. I suppose this makes us either garden-variety curious or total weirdos.

These two actually come up a good amount lately, since we feel compelled to tell people why it’s n and not and.

I’ve only been on the site a few times, but it looks like the site’s purpose in life is to update far-away family members on their goings-on. There are cute photos of their children, family events, and their wedding, and it looks like they run a good site. It makes me wonder if anyone on their end found our site and wondered about us, since we come up right behind them in a search for our names.

I hope to avoid any noteworthy URL-related mishaps, though. For example, here’s what you, your mom, and everyone else searching for that Chris Brown bridal party entrance finds at www.JKwedding.com:

Looking for Jill and Kevin from the JK wedding video?

This is not the place! This was the website for Jim and Katrina’s 2008 wedding. And while we much appreciate the flood of email from webfolk wishing us well and thanking us for brightening their day with our creative and wonderful wedding entrance, we regret to inform you that our wedding was a reasonably traditional affair with a standard processional set to classical music.

We apologize for the confusion and have removed our wedding website to avoid any further cases of mistaken identity.

Have a wonderful day!

This is the polite way for poor Jim and Katrina to tell people to back it up, because they’re tired of getting email for the danceriffic Jill and Kevin. In fact, they were so tired of it, they disabled the website altogether. They were pretty funny about it, but it’s definitely a case of URL-Gone-Wrong that everyone wants to avoid.

Did you try to secure a URL for your website, only to find it was already taken? What was your solution?

Props to the two of you for even having a website - you’re way ahead of us ;)

I haven’t run across that problem due to the fact that the boy’s and mines families are not exactly computer savy and would never know what to do with a wedding website. I have started several other websites though. It’s getting so hard to find a unique URL!!!

We did. We have fairly common first names so we went with http://www.mylastname hislastname wedding.com to avoid any confusion!

That is a hilarious story. I like the n, I think it was a good choice!

We just made a wedding website through weddingday.com since we don’t plan on upkeeping the site beyond our wedding.

Yeah, someone had already taken the website address with our names. They seem like a perfectly nice couple and they got married the day after we found their website last summer. They actually seem a bit like our younger doppelgangers because they’re both computer science majors (though I’m an environmental engineer, very similar schooling) and both grooms are drummers. But they other couple lives in Minnesota and are really, really into God.

Luckily, if we just spelled out my first name instead of using my nickname, we could get what we wanted.

We tried to buy an address for my FI’s little brother and his fiance but every iteration we could come up with was already taken by a real estate team in Arizona.

Could you reverse the names…? Our website is hisname.and.myname, and I wanted to set up an email for us, and was quite surprised to find hisname.and.myname on gmail was already taken so I sucked it up and swapped it to myname.and.hisname… and now we have an email account :]

This is pretty funny! Maybe your “and” website owners are following your wedding planning? Who knows. :)

I like the n, we went with a wedding website and picked a name that I don’t think would be too common for a wedding website, we had no problem getting it.
