A Tale of Two Dresses

March 30th, 2010 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Jellyfish

Once upon a time, there was a newly engaged gal,
Who was so very excited, she called all her pals,
“I’m off to look at dresses!” she shrieked with glee
Her friends thought, “’wow that’s early,’ but couldn’t disagree.

So one Saturday morning, she went to the shop
Tried a handful of dresses – that’s where she should have stopped.
But she was so excited, she bought one on the spot
Her mother, aunt and bridesmaid all assured her she looked hot.

As soon as she got in the car, she felt a sense of panic:
“Did I just buy the wrong dress, or am I being manic?”
She tried to shrug off the feeling, hoping that it would fade
But as the months went on, her fears just weren’t allayed.

Then one fine day, while browsing on the ‘Bee
She saw a reader’s wedding gown and was filled with sudden envy
“I must know who makes this dress, it’s simply so divine”
The next day she drove to the salon to check out the design.

The dress was absolutely perfect, of that she was sure;
But she already had a dress, so she played it demure.
She went back home and called her mom, told her of the news.
Her mom was understanding, said “you should love the dress you choose.”

So back to the salon she went, this time with her mother,
And even she loved the dress, despite having paid for the other.
“If you love it, let’s get it,” said her understanding mom.
“I can’t, it feels impulsive,” she said, trying to stay calm.

Off they went, leaving the dream dress behind
But the indecisive bride just couldn’t get it off her mind.
After months spent thinking of the dress, the bride made one last plea
“Let’s bring dad to the store – if he loves it then it’s meant to be.”

Finally, in January, after months of indecision,
Her father confirmed it: in the dress, she was a vision.
She finally had that moment, the joy and the tears
She could picture her wedding day, could almost hear the cheers.

So she put aside her dignity, she put aside her pride,
And that’s how she became a “two-dress bride”.

I love this poem so cute!! I have forbidden myself from looking at or thinking about other dresses that I didn’t get too try on..I am way to indecisive and throwing doubt in there would be bad!

What a hilarious and well-written poem! It captures the rollercoaster ride of emotions that really does come with wedding dress buying. Can’t wait to see THE dress!

i’m a 2 dress bride as of last friday so i totally get how you were feeling. it feels impulsive and it’s incredibly nervewracking to buy the dress of your dreams when you already have one that could easily do the job. congrats on getting “the one”!!
