At Last, Hair!

March 30th, 2010 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Chick

This may seem like one of the smallest issues of wedding planning, but I think it is one of the funnest (is that a word?)!

As everyone knows now, we will have a wedding in Barsac, France, and also in Houston. I get to choose two hairstyles, which I’m very excited about.

Here are some options:

(All images courtesy of The Knot)

Up:

At Last, Hair! : wedding hair houston 14 1

At Last, Hair! : wedding hair houston 22 2

I liked the above a lot initially, but now that I look at it more and more, it looks to me like a sci-fi monster’s nose. But then again I’m crazy…

At Last, Hair! : wedding hair houston 32 3

I love this one because it looks comfortable yet so elegant.

Now, for the down styles:

At Last, Hair! : wedding hair houston 42 4

At Last, Hair! : wedding hair houston 51 5

I like this style but I think I would use a smaller, more delicate flower.

So, up vs. down at different locations. Here are my pros and cons:

France

  • Up: pros—this is where I will have my formal pictures taken with a professional photographer. Cons—only my family will see this beautiful hairdo!
  • Down: pros—more comfortable. Cons—doesn’t look as done-up.

Houston

  • Up: pros—everyone will see a nice hairdo. Cons—I will have to keep the hair for several hours and may be uncomfortable
  • Down: pros—very comfortable, and since Houston is after France, it could be more casual. Cons—not everyone will get to see the nice up hairdo.

Guys, what do you think?

How did you decide if you wanted to do your hair up or down?

I’m still undecided!

I never quite understood the hair up wedding phenomenon…most women wear their hair down during the normal day and I think its not only because its easier, but most of us look better with it down… (at least whenever I get compliments, its when my hair is down!) so I was/am planning to wear it down, until I saw that my dress actually really compliments a hair up do, so now I’m debating and won’t decide until I have a couple of trials!

I used to live in Houston, and humidity + down hair = frizzy flyaway mess for me. I’d wear mine up, but if your hair texture can handle it, do whichever you want!

Weather and the style of my dress made it pretty obvious for me: it needed to be up. What is the weather like in France and Houston this time of year?

I love the hair down style for Houston and hair up for France! And people at your Houston wedding can see your “up” hair style–you could play a slideshow of pictures from the France wedding!

I went down, but I didn’t think it was more comfortable. People will see you and hug you and totally mess up your hair. ;) And updos aren’t necessarily uncomfortable; a good one won’t be!

In short: I would do up or down in France (probably down), and up in Houston. Or down. ;) Can you do a trial with one of each and see which you like better?

I would vote down in France and up in Houston, just for the humidity factor! Houston humidity is the worst!

when is the houston ceremony? i would base your hairstyle on the weather during that time. is it super humid? maybe having an updo will be best? you can still find some really elegant looking down-hairstyles as well for the paris ceremony

The 1st updo for France, the 1st “down do” for Houston, but yeah, the humidity.

I’m doing it it up so that it will be out of my face and I won’t have to deal with the tangles of re-arranging my hair throughout the day.

So I think in France it will be nice, like 70 degrees. In Houston it will be probably 100 degrees. Yipes! So yes, I think maybe down for France and up for Houston! Good call, ladies!

I like down in France and up for Houston, definitely. The idea of having hair down in Houston actually kind of gives me anxiety :D

I decided on updo when I went to a wedding recently. I had my hair down, and after an hour of dancing, my neck was all sweaty and my hair was stuck to it! Real attractive…
