Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
About Mrs. Taco

Blush This

March 30th, 2010 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Taco

When I graduated from 5th grade (which was as big a whoop as you can imagine), I wore some makeup. Granted, I was 11 and it was 1992, but it kind of soured me on blush. Even when sick, sweaty, or overheated, I never turn that color. So the idea of wearing it for my wedding put me on edge. Nonetheless, I gave it a shot during my makeup trial with Vanessa.

In sum, I loved my eyes. I loved how even my skin tone was and I loved how it stayed on all day. I loved Vanessa and her encouragement to try new things, but her willingness to stay with what made me happiest in the end.

I didn’t love the blush after an all-day wear and several self-portraits later. I didn’t love the lips, either, so both of those items will be toned down on the day of. Also, I did not love how gluey it felt when I washed it off later (gross, right?), but it’s par for the course.

Big dramatic eyes make me happy, though. Old Hollywood, here I come.

The t-shirtis from a thrift store via Green Apple Books, an awesome bookstore in SF.

In the second photo, my eyes are two different colors; she evened it out after I told her I preferred the darker right eye. Creepy, eh? Finding my balance between washed-out and glamorous is key with this whole makeup thing. Most of us ladies don’t (and shouldn’t) walk around with wedding makeup on all day, so figuring out what’s too much and what isn’t is a toughie.

Did it take you many tries to strike a makeup balance with your MUA? Are you wearing any makeup for your wedding (blush or mascara for instance) that you never typically wear?

I think your eyes look great - just the right amount of smoky :)

I love the right eye too! Your face looks natural and not overdone, so you can really play up the eyes! It’ll photograph so nicely!

Looks great! I’m with you on the blush… it was my least favorite part of my makeup trial. I actually like blush, but only when it’s really, really subtle.

I can hardly see the blush-I’m not a fan of the stuff myself as I have pretty rosy cheeks that I hate, but my MUA did wonders with blush. And your lips look almost bare, which is probably good with such dramatic eyes. The eyes are FAB.

Your make-up loos really beautiful!
I never wear foundation but I am considering it for my wedding day. I have to plan my make-up trial… I have no idea what I want exactly, or what will look good on me. But I am thinking about smokey eyes.

I wonder if your makeup artist tries bronzer instead of blush, if you might like it better. It adds color, but still looks natural, and can still give the contour and shaping the blush does.

You look great! Everything I wore minus the lip gloss was something that I never really wear.

@Mrs. Swan: Thanks, Swan. I’ve looked at some photos of the exact same makeup (basically) on a former bride in her pro photos, and it definitely looked fantastic! It’s just the whole walking-around-like-normal time that I felt ridiculous with that stuff on!

Miss Taco, you look great!! So great that I did a make up and hair trial with Beauty Mark Ink. And I was totally not disappointed!! I booked them for my wedding in July, and I have you to thank for finding them (and blogging about it). THANKS!
