Mrs. Taco's Picture
Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
About Mrs. Taco

Four-Legged Flower Girl

March 31st, 2010 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Taco

They say we’re “city married.” “They” say that this means we have all the semblances of marriage (including a shared household, day jobs, and a dog) without the actual marriage part… yet. And we even do that annoying thing where we compare our dog to your kids when either acts up. (In our defense, they’re surprisingly similar at times!)

Tiny Taco is a Boston terrier and she’ll be 9 years old in September. People either think she’s a French bulldog, a puppy (she’s a wee one at 12 pounds), or both. She loves the p-a-r-k, her b-o-n-e, and the b-a-l-l. A true terrier at heart, she will play in/with all of the above and never tire or take a sip of the water we brought just for her. A sometimes-cranky, middle-aged gal, she not-so-humbly eats up attention paid to her by adoring fans across the country (I’m not sure it’s reached past the U.S.).

(Pics by Devin Carraway. She normally has a knack for avoiding the camera, so we’re especially happy to have these.)

We originally liked the idea of an outdoor wedding in September or October, partly for the Bay Area Indian summer and partly so a dog could more easily attend. Once we nabbed our venue, we didn’t hope for too much when we asked if Tiny was OK to bring. Once they gave the thumbs-up (she’d just need a handler and to be on-leash the whole time), we were ecstatic and immediately made her our flower girl. Since the venue has cracked down on flower petals goobering up their parquet floors, florist Amy says she’ll come up with something flowery for Tiny to wear on the day-of. She’ll probably go home with the dogsitter sometime during cocktail hour, but she’ll at least make a noteworthy appearance.

To go that route again, a dog is almost as unpredictable as a human flower girl or ring bearer, age and trainability depending. But that’s part of the fun of that part, right?

Did anyone else have to bat their eyelashes to have a pet at their wedding?

I LOVE that you are including your dog in the ceremony, especially since she’s been a part of your family for so long. Can’t wait to see what you end up having her wear!

What a cute dog, and how cute that she’ll make an appearance at your wedding! Our dog is affraid of strangers, doesn’t like parties where there is too much noise and tends to bark a lot. It would be too much to ask of him… Really ;)

We are including our two pit bulls - sounds crazy, but they’re sweethearts, and we’re so excited to share our day with the loves of our lives!

How adorable. We wanted to have our boys in the wedding (2 Goldens) but given their habit of respectively, (1) saying hello to everyone and howling and (2) public pooping - seriously, if there’s a big crowd, J will spin while he poops so that no one feels left out, we’re having them join us for some pictures afterward.

If Taco is looking for a boyfriend, my nephew Erwin is also 9 and a Boston. He lives on the East Coast, so it would have to be a long distance thing. He’s neutered anyway, so Taco wouldn’t be missing much.

@PlaidBride: Aww, I’d love to hook them up, but the distance and neutering would be a problem ;) She is also surprisingly bitchy (all the cute ones, right??).

I compare my furbaby to other people’s kids too! Its my only frame of reference. They should just deal with it. ;)

Haha, I love that you spelled out ball and park, I have to spell out the word o-u-t or there’s a MAD dash to the back door! I wish I could bring my sweet peas with me to our wedding.

I wish! I am like you - love my furbabies and compare then to kids all the time. I would have loved to have them involved in our wedding somehow, but 1. my venue has a strict no-dog policy, and 2. We are getting married across the country and have no way of getting them there. :( But I have already decided that after we return from our honeymoon (my mom is watching the dogs, the ONLY person I trust with my babies!) I am putting my dress back on and getting some shots with my ‘kids’.

Oh my goodness, cute overload!!! I wish we could have a flowerdog… I asked FI if our cat could be in the wedding and he quickly vetoed that one!

@Iggy: She’s my one and only baby! Us furbaby-havers love them just the same :)

@heathermarie18: Aww, I love cats, I’d love to see a flower cat one of these days, but I doubt any feline would cooperate :D

@Miss Nachos: We swear she’ll learn one of the spellings these days! You should see her pep up when we talk about PARKing the car.

She’s so cute! I love this idea but our venue doesn’t allow dogs, and our dogs are a little too hyper to be involved in the wedding. They’d be wrestling each other down the aisle!

I am JEALOUS. We too have a Boston (BEST.BREED.EVER) and wanted her as one o our flower girls, but apparently I was the only one who thought it was a good idea, and it makes me a little sad she can’t be there. But she’s only 3 1/2 so she hasn’t quite calmed down yet (not that most Bostons ever do) and I worry how she would behave at the ceremony with all of the people.
