The tease is over. Our engagement photos are back and Fromage Photography did an amazing job!
We started at Reading Terminal market in Philly and I spied some cupcakes.

There were details, too.

Lame title, I know. I just have no creative juice left in my body after the wedding…
It is no small understatement to say that I LOVE paper. Have I mentioned my childhood habit of smelling paper (especially Sanrio paper)? I have no idea why that stuff smells so good to me, but it does! I can’t resist smelling that stuff when it’s near me. Helloooooooooo Kitty!
One of my fave paper resources is Kelly Paper - they have a ton of different paper in different weights, textures, and colors. You can purchase paper by the sheet or by the ream, which is super handy if you need a ton of paper for a large wedding, or if you just need to see (and smell) the paper in person before purchasing.
Mr. Ramen and I headed over one of the Kelly Paper branches in Phoenix to pick up some paper for our programs, escort cards, and other paper miscellania.

My mom’s not the most practical woman in the world, but she does make sense every now and then.
One day after I got engaged, mom kindly offered to pay for my wedding dress. I think she might have seen too many David’s Bridal sales touting the elusive, perfect $300 gown, so she seemed a bit shell-shocked when I noted my dress (a sample, for a price I haggled for at Rin’s Bridal in San Carlos) came out to a little more than she thought. Three times as much as she thought, in fact.
I made a point to say I was equally comfortable with her paying for all of it, some of it, or none of it, but she still looked understandably perplexed. She observed that I could have gotten one a lot cheaper, and that I’d only wear it once, anyway, after all. I was a little huffy at first, then decided, well, she’s pretty spot-on. I am only going to wear it once, then whenever I feel like sitting around the house in it. (Seriously, I might just bust it out to wear every now and then while I’m watching TV.) I’ll probably get it cleaned. I will love the photos, and I will love me wearing it. But then, I’ll put it away in the closet, or sell it on Craigslist if I can bring myself to do so.
Has anyone else found themselves in a similar position? A thrifty sort myself, I laugh sometimes thinking about how much I’ve been willing to shell out for Big Day.

FINALLY! In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a bit indecisive. I just can’t stick with anything - I’m always looking for something better. To be honest, I think that was part of the problem with Mr. H Dizzle and me the last time around… I was just so obsessed and couldn’t think about anything else.
This is not so anymore! I’ve been making a concentrated effort to make decisions instead of being so wishy-washy in every aspect of my life.
Anywho, I’ve been working on our STDs for a few weeks, off and on. Being that we’re on a supa dupa tight budget and I don’t have Photoshop, I created them in Paint.net. I’m too lazy to take a picture and upload it, so I’ll just show you the file from my computer

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Luckily, our reception wasn’t all about Mr. Swan and me dancing. I think our guests had a good time too, because I think everyone managed to find a way to entertain themselves even if they weren’t dancing.
With a relatively intimate wedding, we were able to talk to many of guests throughout the reception.

I got to meet a new friend, Baby L.
Now that my bridesmaids have their shoes, I suppose it would be time for me to figure out what I will wear for the big day!
And, you wouldn’t expect anything less than a conundrum from me, would you?
When I originally purchased my wedding gown, in order to measure me for my hollow-to-hem, I needed to have my shoes picked out. So, I frantically searched for the perfect pair of pumps. The original winner? This lovely pair of faux snakeskin yellow/gold peep toes by Enzo Angiolini. Where did I get them? You guessed it… Nordstrom… with my shoe boyfriend. Actually, I’ll confess: I already own 3 other pairs of this shoe in different colors and patterns. They are one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I own, and they are ALWAYS coming out with new hues. I loved these yellow ones… at the time.

Some of my earliest childhood memories include cookies. Every Christmas all the girls in the family (and Mr. Starfish and BIL Starfish—they are great dough rollers) bake at least 15 dozen of about 10 types of cookies—no lie! Starfish Mom is known for her cookies. She makes every type imaginable, some of my favorites being classic chocolate chip, pumpkin with a maple glaze, chocolate with caramel and almonds, snowballs, and her famous sugar cookies.
Searching the web I have found so many great places with the cutest sugar cookies; the only real test is whether or not they taste better than my mom’s. Ever since I found decorated sugar cookies on the web, I’ve been in love with the idea of a cookie favor at the wedding. I’ve been to a decent amount of weddings and my favorite favors always seem to be edible or picture frames… or honestly, they tend to get thrown out. I love cookies and other edible favors because they are never wasted… at least with me. I’ve found so many sites with cute cookies, I thought I’d share some favorites.
Eleni’s in New York is one of my hands down favorites.

A few months ago I decided that it was about time for us to book a florist. At first I felt totally overwhelmed, because for a girl who claims to love flowers, I suddenly realized that I knew very little about them! Sure, I love picking up a bouquet at the farmers’ market, but I had no idea what most blooms were called or which kinds go well together. I became determined to show up to florist meetings with a binder full of inspiration pictures and the impression that I know what I’m talking about. So in the days to follow, I made it my job to find out all I could about flowers!
Unfortunately, I quickly realized that my expensive taste carries straight on through into flowers. My favorites don’t come cheap! I made a list of the names of all the flowers I love: peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, sweet peas, hydrangeas, lisianthus, tulips, dahlias, and anemones. I’m definitely drawn to blooms that are fluffier and full of petals, rather than structural and architectural.
I began collecting inspiration for my bouquet. Here are some pictures I collected that I took with me to communicate what I like to my florist:
For my bouquet, I love the pop of pink against a white dress! (Photo source: OnceWed)
Oh spring. Harbinger of bunnies and butterflies and blue bonnets. This is the time of year that I like to go outside, stretch my limbs up to the sun, and go back inside until November.
I’ve mentioned my allergy to fragrances. But I’m also allergic to trees, weeds, pollen, mold, dust, dust mites, cats, dogs, horses, and hay. An outdoorswoman I am not. Nature and I have a bit of a tumultuous relationship. Although my allergies stay with me year-round, they’re always the worst during spring and early summer.
Who’s ready for a spring/early summer wedding?!
If you are a fellow allergy-sufferer, you know too well the havoc an attack can wreak on your body. It is terrible. The puffy face, the leaking nose, the red, itchy eyes. The day after an allergy attack I experience what I call an allergy hangover. My body is exhausted and I feel drained and loopy.
I used to suffer full-blown allergy attacks monthly, if not weekly (daily in April/May). Luckily, I rarely have allergy attacks anymore, maybe a few a year. Still, my dress doesn’t have pockets to hold my tissues so let’s review some anti-allergy strategies.

Definitely not. But, as I mentioned in my last post, we left with a free gift. Mr. A’s guess was a set of champagne flutes. I told him it couldn’t be, because the box didn’t look big enough.
After registering, we grabbed a bite for breakfast at First Watch (drool), and then headed home. It was then that we decided to open the bag and box (which looked just like the same bag and box Miss Hot Wings received).

(Sheesh, could Mr. C look any happier about his suit? I paid for all of them, after all!)
Yup, that’s right, we’re going with suits for Mr. Cola and the groomsmen! A more casual look goes perfectly with the feel of our wedding, and plus, the cost was about the same as a tux rental, and now the guys get to keep their suits.
Last weekend, we took a page from Miss Buttons’ book, and headed to Kohl’s to look for inexpensive suits for the guys.

This past weekend, my best friend Sharon threw me a fantastic shower. In case you forgot, we planned to have it at my apartment on a Sunday night. The food was potluck style and let me tell you, nothing is better than potluck leftovers for dinner for a week!
She came over around 5:00PM and I was banished to the back porch and bedroom until told otherwise. At around 7:00, I was allowed out of my cage and I was presented with this…

OK… OK… I know Valentine’s Day was a month ago, but give me a break. It’s summer here. And the surf is pumping.
Mr. Veggie doesn’t really like candy. He certainly wouldn’t like to get a little box of sugar hearts that say things like “Tweet me” and “LOL”. He wouldn’t want me to buy a greeting card. Ever.
So what did I do for my very own Captain Planet on the most Hallmark-y of days? Well, the way I figure it, the best part of Valentine’s Day is knowing that someone has taken the time to do something special for you. So, I took a minute to make him some homemade valentines out of things we had laying around. Some were out in the open and some were hidden.
The first one was on his computer. I’ve been playing around with graphic design projects lately, and this was one I came up with a few months ago. I secretly put it on the desktop of his computer, and so began the scavenger hunt.
