Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HIAge and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: June 27, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, HonoluluAbout Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Several months back, I mentioned a little something about making a mini-manga to stick in our programs. I know many of you had voted for ninjas, but in the end I chose to go with Mr. Sew’s request that I keep it as true-to-life as possible.
And since neither you nor I want to read about the ridiculously long process it took me to reach the end, I’m just going to reveal the finished pages!
We’ll start with the cover, which will be a two-page spread. On it you can see all our anime convention costumes of the past, and the location in the back is the San Jose Convention Center as seen from Google Maps.
Sorry for the small blog-picture sizes, hopefully some of it is still readable! Read more…
Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FLAge and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial ServicesEngagement Date: June 13, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Carlouel Yacht ClubAbout Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
If you’ve been following along, you might recall that a few months ago I started to gather some hair inspiration.
Over the course of the past few months, I slowly built up a folder of images that I had stumbled upon. Seriously, for those of you with “medium” length straight hair, it can be daunting. I was constantly bombarded with images of gorgeous brides with low, loose, curly buns… messy yet beautiful hairstyles that I drooled over. The thing is, I LOVE my straight hair… from day to day. However, this is the ONE time in my life that I was wishing my hair had some texture! Alas…
Although the pictures were hard to come by, I managed to gather a small collection of feasible and achievable hairstyle inspirations to bring with me to the salon for my hair trial…

I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
This is the final installment in my three-part, New Zealand honeymoon posts. So far, we’d been to Christchurch, Kaikoura, Marlborough, Marahau, Nelson, and had started our drive down the west coast to the high-mountain town of Franz Josef.
Once in Franz Josef, we checked into our hotel, Te Waonui. Our room had a wall-size window that looked into a full-on rainforest. It was gorgeous. Moss, intermingling tree branches, ferns, and dampness were framed by this window. I could’ve sat there and stared at it all day. But instead, we woke up the next morning to hike the Franz Josef glacier.
That’s the glacier behind us. From where we’re standing in this picture, it was about a 40-minute walk to get to the base of the glacier. And it was raining, no less.
Here’s a shot of the glacier once we arrived at the base: Read more…
Mrs. Argyle, St. LouisAge and Occupation: 24, Project CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, PilotEngagement Date: February 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on WashingtonAbout Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
For you creative and DIY brides out there, here is a great site where you can scan in your own handwriting (or that of a friend/family member that you like) and they can turn it into a font!
You’ll have to download the template and print it out. Once you do that, you just need to fill in all of the necessary information on the form by following the instructions. The next step is to scan it into your computer as a PNG or JPEG format and upload it to the website.
The last step is to wait for it to upload. You’ll get to preview it to make sure you like it first, and then you can download it to your Mac or PC.
I tried it out for myself before I encouraged you all to use it, and it’s pretty spot on (and easy)! Check it out for yourself. Read more…
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
This past weekend, Mr. Hot Wings decided we would have a Chicago date day! We started the day with some ice skating at Chicago’s Millennium Park. The city puts in a temporary ice rink each winter that is free for public use. You just pay for skate rentals. Since we have our own skates, it’s a free activity.

We’ve poured ourselves into planning a wedding that reflects our personal style - modern and high contrast with a vintage twist. Blogging keeps me creative, baking keeps me happy, and grande nonfat no foam sugar free vanilla lattes keep me sane.
I’m baaaaack! I firmly believe that I have loved doing my recap posts so much, I have stretched them out for as long as I possibly could. No, seriously. My time on Weddingbee is rapidly winding down, as I think I’ve shown you almost everything there is to be shown.::tear::
But, I just had to show you some live action from our reception. We didn’t opt to hire a videographer, but we had many friends who used their digital cameras to take footage of the day.
As I watch these video snippets, as low quality as they are, sometimes it makes me wish that we had shelled out the extra bucks for some professional video. On the other hand, I wouldn’t change a thing. Some of these clips captured the most random moments of the day and offbeat snippets of conversation that I doubt a professional would have captured/kept.
Beyond the special dances and other details that I won’t bore you with, here are some highlights from the day. Read more…

Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, DallasAge and Occupation: 28, Special Projects CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity TraderEngagement Date: March 19, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Marie Gabrielle, DallasAbout Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
So, remember when I was searching for my dream cake stand? Well, the hive came through in a BIG way. Bakerella offered to go to a store in Canada, Mrs. Ramen offered to go to a store in California, and Miss Stripes got on the phone to call several Potluck Studios retailers. Well, all of that paid off because a wonderful store called Pine Cone Hill in Massachusetts had the last flirt ruffle cake stand left. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. It was all a blur. I’m pretty sure I gave my credit card number and address, but that’s all I really remember.
Then, it arrived:
I ripped open the packaging and pulled out my cake stand. Only, there was one major problem: Read more…
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
For our engagement party we decided to have a signature drink. The weekend before the party, a few of my girlfriends came over for a drink tasting. I should have done more research beforehand. I had mostly chocolatey drinks, as the party is black and white themed, but they didn’t taste very good. We rated each drink on a scale of 0-5.
These are the coasters purchased through For Your Party.
My mom was originally planning on throwing a large engagement party, but it ended up small and being thrown by friends. This left us with excess coasters and a few other supplies, which helped me decorate for the tasting! Read more…
Mrs. Paisley, Orange County, CAAge and Occupation: 25, JournalistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Spanish ProfessorEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Family Lake HouseAbout Me: From my earliest days I attracted attention, as much for my intelligence as for beauty. I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Okay, now that enough eyebrows have sufficiently shot through the roof, everybody can relax---I kid! I'm just a sarcastic NorCal-turned-SoCal girl who loves outdoor activities, books, letterpress printing and of course, Professor Paisley.
I swoon for Manolos, even though I’m a die hard, never-spend-more-than-100-bucks shoe buyer.
During my winter days of wedding planning, and wondering what shoes I should buy, it was all too easy to drive the five minutes over to Fashion Island, and play dress up in the Neiman Marcus shoe salon.
So, after figuring out my correct size in the store, and deciding I much preferred a closed-toe shoe (merely because they’re more comfy to me), I began to scour eBay for some Manolos. Of course, keeping in mind authenticity is not guaranteed on eBay, I mainly looked for shoes with plenty of pictures, an authentic box and dust bag, and with store receipts.
Not long after I launched my search, the perfect pair popped up. After a few convos with the seller, she assured me I would *not* be happy with these shoes, as they were in worn condition with a few stains. But they looked good to me in the pictures, and at under $100, they were the perfect price.
I was certain I wouldn’t win them, but by some small miracle, my bid, at $104, won! Yippee! Read more…

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Television Production/WriterEngagement Date: December 24, 2008Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: The Marvimon HouseAbout Me: I'm a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!
Just in case you are one of those people on the fence about whether or not to invite children to your wedding, I hope this post helps sway you (one way or the other…)!
I had a great time planning out the fun stuff for all the kids who would be at our wedding. From crafting activity kits for each individual child, to making sure they had plenty to eat and drink. Read more…
Mrs. Dachshund, Fresno, CAAge and Occupation: 24, Legal Office AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer TechnicianEngagement Date: April 18, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two SistersAbout Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!
My favorite part about Germanic languages is the ability to squish as many nouns as possible into one mega word. Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft translates to “Association for subordinate officials of the head office management of the Danube steamboat electrical services”. Wut? My favorite was always “Geschirrspülmaschine,” meaning dishwasher. Isn’t it fun to say? My stepdad’s favorite joke to tell, (and he tells it often), is: How do you say ’bra’ in German? Itkeepsemfromfloppen. Get it?
Um, but I digress. The point of this post is to talk about something with which I’m sure most of you are familiar: Hair flowers. Or fascinators, as they are one-in-the-same. I think. According to Wikipedia, fascinators have only recently come back into style. Maybe Carrie Bradshaw had something to do with the come-back?
Anyway, I never thought I was going to embrace the wedding flower/fascinator trend. I don’t know if I thought it to be too “fashion forward”? (LOL?) Or if it had anything to do with the fact that I know my mom would laugh at it, but I just never felt that I’d want to wear one, especially on a day where all eyes will be on me. *gulp*

Mrs. Pretzel, SeattleAge and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing EngineerEngagement Date: September 2, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown StudiosAbout Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married.
Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
Just like Miss Nachos I’ve turned to thrift stores to help piece together our centerpieces. In order to pull off our milk glass and lantern centerpieces I calculate that I will need 30 tall milk glass bud vases and 30 short vases for the Seattle reception and 45 tall and 60 short for the Midwest reception. Milk glass seems to be plentiful at thrift stores such as St Vincent De Paul, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army. I’ve been able to walk out with various patterns in 9 inch and 6 inch vases for less than $1.50 per vase. But I quickly noticed that there are a couple very common milk glass patterns. These patterns are plentiful and threaten my vision of mismatched vases.
The offending common milk glass patterns
After purchasing 4-6 pieces in each these common patterns I decided to put them on the “banned” list.
