Scene: Pirates of the Caribbean on TV, Hamsters on the couch
Mr. Hamster: Timber me shimbers!!!
Me: What?
Mr. Hamster: TIMBER me SHIMBERS!!
Me: … Do you mean shiver me timbers?
Mr. Hamster: That’s what I said.
Good thing we’re not having a pirate-themed wedding, because apparently the Mister isn’t fluent in Pirate.
Jack Sparrow, Mr. Hammy is not.
Sometimes I think that the Mister and I are on different wavelengths. Not on any major, earth-shattering issues, thank goodness, but just on little things here and there.

My friend Nancy and I recently attended the “Wedding Day Details” class at Paper Source. It was a lot of fun, and a great marketing tool for the store – after they teach you to use all their cool stuff, they give you 10% off that day, so of course, I ended up buying a couple items (a rounded corner punch and a 1/8 inch punch, in case you were wondering). The class lasted 2 hours, and was broken up into three 35-minute stations, with the extra time used for shopping.
The first station taught us how to make table tents. We made the following 3 tents:

I think all of them are neat in their own way…not sure if we are going to use any of these designs, though. Which one is your favorite?
One of the tools I got to use for the first time is the Xyron!

At the beginning of our relationship (many moons ago… well about 44 moons ago) Mr. Veggie and I lived on his farm in Andover, New Hampshire. He had a 200 year old farmhouse on 36 acres of land. The property was at the end of a dirt road and butted up against a few thousand acres of forest. We lived off the grid, with a well for water, composting toilet, and photovoltaic power. We had an acre of cleared land around the house where we would grow veggies while Bruce the dog lazed in the sun and ate raspberries from the bushes.
During this sun-drenched summer we lived in a bubble of new love. We talked about our future plans, our future babies, and even our future wedding. Funny how the wedding conversations tailed off as the prospect of actually getting married started to cross Mr. Veggie’s mind. Hmmm.

Unlike many of you, I didn’t get creative asking my bridesmaids to be, well, my bridesmaids.
(Unlike mplnewsdallas, who had these beautiful cards custom-made!)
I asked most of my ladies in person, and one over the phone. Luckily they all said yes, despite my lack of effort.
Speaking of which, if any of my bridesmaids are reading this, shoo!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I’ve found that when it comes to weddings, sometimes there is very little to do with the bride and groom. Besides the dress and the flowers and the I dos, a big part of a lot of weddings are all about pleasing your guests and pissing off as few people as possible. Brides often have to roll over and do things that they don’t really want, or eliminate things they do really want, in order to keep the peace.
“Ugh, do we really have to have daisies? I’m not really a fan of daisies.” If you want to continue speaking to your mother, you’ll carry the damn daisies.

“Ugh, do we have to do the bouquet/garter toss? It’s so uncomfortable.” Do you want your family to look at you like a 12 headed-freak for shunning tradition? No? Then you’ll let your groom stick his head up your dress for your guests’ amusement, because that’s much more “normal”.
Get it? Get it? Today I’m talking about trains!
Betcha thought this was about me getting a yummy pair of Jimmy Choos, huh? Well no. Although perhaps that would have been a way cooler post.*
Back to choo-choo. I didn’t think much about the train in purchasing a wedding dress, but then I found so many lovely photos you can get with a train. And guess what I realized? Your train can be pretty demanding. It refuses to be left out, and bulldozes its way into every phase of the wedding. Needy, needy train, about to bore down with frightening might and speed on your wedding.
The train getting ready, *without you*. I mean, the TRAIN has its own getting ready pic?
[train speaking:] Bow to me. ’Nuff said. And someone get me a steamer. Bitches.
The train elbowing its way into your bridal shots:

We finally took our engagement photos back in late October. After 9 months of engagement, I was getting antsy, and scheduled them about a year before the wedding.
The weather had been crappy, rainy and cloudy the week we scheduled to take the photos. The Midwestern fall foliage was still in full display, which I was happy about, but I was worried we’d have to reschedule. Miraculously, on the day-of, the rain stopped and the clouds began to clear about mid-way through our session. It was nice that we were able to get a bit of sun flare in our pictures – one of the many aspects of our photographer’s style that I loved.
After we had our pictures done, I had stalked Lisa’s blog regularly (I do this anyway) waiting for our pictures to appear in a post. I knew she had been super busy with weddings in the weeks prior to our engagement photos, so I was expecting to wait. Finally, after about 5 weeks, a lovely surprised popped into my inbox in the form of “Miss A, your pictures are done and you should check out the blog for a sneak peek.” SCORE!
We ended up taking our photos at a local park and in a historic part of town – we were looking for something different than what everyone else was doing (i.e. not Forest Park). Plus, I seriously loved that Lisa was up for our fun props! We could not be happier with the result, and I am beyond thrilled to share them with you!
Of course, we had to bring one of the dogs!
Mr. FF and I attended our venue’s food tasting over the weekend, and it was a pretty huge event. We were excited to taste all of the dishes that are available from our venue, but sadly… some of the food that we’re planning on having at our reception wasn’t available to taste. Why, you ask? Well, the tasting covered most of the typical “sit-down” or “buffet” type of dishes that receptions typically have, and Mr. FF aren’t exactly going for a “typical” reception.
When discussing what we wanted for the reception, we wanted something laid-back, fun, and with great food. And, well… something with a lot of food. And something with a lot of options (I’m somewhat very picky). So, when I casually mentioned the idea of food stations to Mr. FF over dinner one evening (and by “casually mentioned” I mean highly researched and presented to him complete with hypothetical menu selections), he was totally on board with the idea. He loved it! So, the sit-down dinner we had been planning was nixed, and the food station idea was in.
We’ve decided on a total of four stations: one carving station, one Italian station, one Mexican station, and a Dessert buffet station (hello, have you met us? we love sugar). So, like I said, at the tasting this weekend we got to sample some of the items on our menu. Even though we weren’t able to try every last thing, we still left with an overall sense of the style of service and the quality of food that our venue provides, and both were great.
So, are you ready for the unveiling of the (tentative) French Fry reception menu? It is as follows:

I took Starfish Mom and Sister Starfish to Boston, under the premise that I wanted to thank them for throwing us an amazing engagement party. We started off walking through the Public Gardens. We went to see the 12:30 showing of Bride Wars. I took a cue from the movie and took them to Tea at the Boston Park Plaza (it is a significant part of the movie). I waited until Sister Starfish least suspected it and handed her a scrapbook.

Sister Starfish, I’m pretty sure, immediately knew what was going on. So, Starfish Mom teased me and asked if I was going to say anything, but I said that the scrapbook says it all. I’m not too good with words, but when I write, I can fully express myself. So here it is:

*Envies is my pet name for envelopes. Yeah, I’m weird.
Now that I admitted my STD-printing flub, I can move along to a part that I’m actually fairly pleased with––the envelopes. Not to be outdone, the envelopes had to fail a little first.

While printing the bad boys on our super hawt printer, we kept having the problem of ink smears. It wasn’t coming from the text itself, but just random inkjet blotches. We were good little children, and kept re-using the same two test envelopes, which is why you see highlighted and circled blotches. We had to know what was new and what was old fail.

We put photography at the top of our wedding-day-vendor priority list. I mean we really splurged on it, waaay more than any sane person with our budget would. Yuppers, we’re dedicating a little over a third of our $15,000 total budget to book our favorite, Tanja Lippert.
Here’s just a glimpse of her talent:

Exactly one year before our wedding, something happened that changed the Jelly household forever. We adopted a puppy! We started the process just 2 weeks before and he came home with us on our 1 year pre-wedding-aversary! He’s a rescue pup, so we’re not sure about his exact breed, but we’re told he’s part-pug, part-dachshund (and possibly part-basenji).

This is what he looked like when we adopted him at 10 weeks old. (Photo courtesy of Smiley Dog Rescue)
Initially, I wanted to name him Barney after our favorite How I Met Your Mother character, Barney Stinson:

Man, I’ve been busting out the DIY projects like a woman possessed lately! I guess this is what happens as the wedding gets closer—all the crafts we’ve been planning on doing actually have to get done. The benefit to my crafting bonanza is that I feel incredibly productive. The downside is that all the wedding stuff is literally taking over our 400 square foot studio.
(Personal Photo)
I can barely walk without stubbing my toe on a random box. Ah, how we suffer for the sake of the love (and the wedding!).
Anyways, this minor project involves Old Navy flip flops and a hot glue gun.
Love on ice. Sweetheart18 and her fiance take advantage of an empty arena.

… that I love inspiration boards?
This was my first attempt at an inspiration board for our “green” wedding. It was actually the first bit of planning that I did for the wedding. I think I started it about 2 days after Mr. Veggie proposed. He scoffed.

Bottom Row (l-r): Chair, Card Tree, Personal Photo, Birds, Lanterns, Bouquet, Bikes.
I was going for a late summery-rustic-relaxed vibe.
