I started to be a big slacker before the wedding when it came to posting, so I’m going to have to back up a bit and start my recaps a bit before the wedding fun actually began!
The truth is, about a week before the wedding I was beginning to become unraveled. I had done so much and planned so carefully, I really thought I was going to get through it all with very little stress. But the Friday before our wedding week (also known as the day I embarrassed myself in public as a crazy bride) it became pretty apparent that ‘stress free’ wasn’t going to happen. Mama Cloud was going to be in town in a few days to help out on last minute stuff, and that Friday was to be my last day of work until after the honeymoon. My very sweet dental hygienist had also offered me a complimentary teeth cleaning which I scheduled for that morning. Nothing says yuck like yellow teeth in a white dress, and that was not the look I was going for!

Also, I had a filling few months prior had that been bothering me, but with all the last minute tasks I hadn’t bothered to do anything about it until that appointment. Chewing on the right side of my mouth was clearly no longer important when I had programs to assemble!

Let me first start off by saying that Mr. A and I had no intention of hiring a videographer, that is, until October of 2009 rolled around.
Back in early fall, I fell in love with this video, which I found via Style Me Pretty. (I’ll wait, as I encourage you to watch the entire thing. It’s totes worth it.)
Aspen, Colorado – Super 8 Film from Kevin Von Qualen on Vimeo.
I fell in love with this video. Hard. So much so, in fact, that I shared it with everyone. I went on a mission to find a Super 8 videographer close to town (with no luck).
So, when I took a visit out to Colorado to visit to see one of my best friends (and bridesmaid) back in mid-October, I showed her the video.

Did you spy some cute recycling in our favors?

Yep, the tag and mason jar top are made from recycled beer boxes. Somewhere on the interwebs I stumbled across a bride who used cardboard from food boxes to make her save the dates. This sparked an idea with Mr Pretzel so we started saving boxes from six packs and have amassed quite the collection. We weren’t sure what we were going to do with them but once we bought a mason jar to put our beer bread mix in I had a brainstorm. I picked up a large circle paper punch and started playing with our beer boxes.

Right after we got engaged, we started to receive a few beautiful and really thoughtful gifts from some of our closest friends and family. I think engagement gifts aren’t necessary, so we really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the gift givers. I like making thank yous really personal and special, because if someone went out of their way to do something nice for me, I want to give them a personal thank you.
That being said, I think we came up with the most perfect idea for thank yous!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Woot, woot! Today is our 2 year anniversary.
“But wait, Mrs. Sushi… wasn’t your wedding just last year?!”
Umm… yeah… let me explain about that.
We got engaged in December of 2007. Ironically, Mr. Sushi was ready to get married and I was… hesitant. Not that I didn’t want to marry him, I just wasn’t sure I wanted to do it RIGHT THEN. He was hinting for a Summer 2008 wedding, while I was pushing for a Summer 2009 wedding. I just wanted more time. We compromised and agreed to a March 2009 wedding. After deciding to get married in Hawaii, there were a few other factors that led us to our date in March; my brother and cousin both would be on spring break from college was the main reason, along with not wanting to get married in Hawaii in the middle of summer. Either way, we chose March 2009 as our projected wedding date.
In January and February of 2008, Mr. Sushi and I had some turbulence happen in our life.

No offense. I know a lot of people who love pink. In fact, I knew a girl who LOVED pink. EVERYTHING had to be pink. Pink shoes, pink shirts, pink purses. Before this, I never had anything against pink although it wasn’t my favorite color. But after I met this girl, I started to dislike pink. I think it’s because she’d make a huge deal about how she needed someone’s help (usually a boy) and would ooh and ahh over the boy who’d help her. It made me want to puke. I’m a pretty independent person and if I can do it myself, I will. In fact, it’s difficult for me to ask people for help. So, I think that association with pink made me hate the color.
It’s mellowed out since then. I recently even bought a pink shirt. The shirt itself was super cute and only came in pink so I bought it anyway. However, this past week, I found a reason to HATE pink.
I’m a teacher and I recently discovered that I will be receiving a pink slip. I have been teaching in my current district for four years. Last year, I managed to slip by and hung on for dear life to my job. But this year, I am not so lucky. Now, a pink slip doesn’t necessarily mean that I will be laid off, but that the district can legally lay me off. Since we’re unionized, they lay off not based off performance, dedication or talent, but seniority.
I have mixed feelings.

We are having a Labor Day Sunday wedding. We initially thought this was a great idea because a lot of our guests are from out of town and we figured they wouldn’t have to miss work this way. Plus, we saved loads of money on our venue by booking it on a Sunday instead of a Saturday. But not everyone seems to think that planning a wedding for a 3-day weekend is a good idea.

Sometimes the tiniest details involved with the wedding day can turn into my favorites!
Do you want to see what I mean?
I hadn’t put much thought into our ring bearer pillow until recently… I figured I’d DIY one when the wedding date drew closer. I’m such a slacker! But then, by some stroke of luck, BusyButtons came into my life…
It is only a coincidence that we share a “button” moniker, but I have to think that destiny brought us together for that very reason…
Go check out Tracy’s (aka BusyButtons) Etsy shop and see the beautiful custom ring pillows she creates! I know you’ll love them just as much as I do…
Yeah, me and Jo-Ann are like this.

I swear, I see her more than I see my sisters. She’s very therapeutic. And I know the cashiers are starting to recognize me.
Today I went to Office Max and finally bought our RSVP cards and envelopes but they seemed a little plain – not shocking considering they are plain white note cards and plain white envelopes. But my bestie Jo-Ann happened to be waiting for me across the street so I decided to stop by and say hi and see if she had any ideas on how to spruce them up. And wouldn’t you know it, I left with these…

When I got engaged I didn’t have the slightest idea about the world I would suddenly be thrown into. Out of the blue I was sucked right up out of my overalls and transported out of the garden, Alice-In-Wonderland style, into the world of wedding planning.
And I love it. I’m not afraid to say it. I love it! The inspiration boards, color palettes, dress shopping. I love it!
But wait, this isn’t how we live. We are compost-turning, veggie-growing, non-profit-working farmers. We live in a house-truck on a beach in New Zealand. We wear jandals more often than shoes. Let’s face it, we are dirt-lovin’ tree-huggers. We know more about PV (photo-voltaic) than STDs.

But those inspiration boards are just so pretty. I can’t get enough.
Mr. Veggie is a bit ambivalent about the whole wedding thing.

So. Another honeymoon preparation post. I’ve posted about swimsuits, skincare, and now you get to listen to me blab about hair removal. Lucky, lucky you.
While this isn’t a topic or practice to which I give much thought during the regular course of my boring life, the wedding has made my life *so* much more exciting and I can’t help but want to take a little extra step in this area to prep for the honeymoon. I want to be showing some soft, smooth, and non-furry baby bum skin in those swimsuits!
As with everything, this is an incredibly complex multi-layered issue.
The first decision: to shave or to wax?
What sucks was that I spent countless hours designing our Save the Dates. Countless, people. I’m a perfectionist, and so it took me about 15+ tries to design something that I was pretty happy with.
Design One: Bleh.

It’s Lent in the Pretzel house and this means giving something up for 40 days until Easter. When I was a kid I would give up candy because between you and me, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. But, the real purpose of “giving something up” is personal sacrifice, which if it’s candy—isn’t much of a sacrifice for me. This year Mr Pretzel and I did something unthinkable…

Pretzel modification of this image
We gave up beer. Serious sacrifice. We’re hanging in there, but we have beer on the brain. What better time to tackle our favors.
