Mrs. Hot Dog, Cheyenne, WYAge and Occupation: 23, Health Information SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Personal Trainer
Engagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Family Ranch outside Glenrock, WYAbout Me: I'm a city girl by birth and rural girl by choice. I'm ready to take on the world with a big heart and a big smile! I love all things crafty and DIY. I live in Cheyenne, WY with Mr. HD and our 2 fur babies, our dachshunds, Ollie and Mia. I love travel, adventure, Finding Nemo, '90s music, animals, and laughing. He is the cheese to my macaroni and together we spend more time watching movies than we probably should! I'm an old soul who is super duper excited to pull off our down home-rustic-chic-country wedding (on the cheap)!
I just heard some GREAT news! The National Weather Service says that it’s going to be a warmer and dryer winter than usual up north!
You know what this means?! A warmer and DRYER summer!
And since we changed the date to late summer, we may NOT need a tent! Although it wouldn’t be horrible to have one, my original dream was for an outdoor ceremony and a reception under the stars (and some cafe lights ) like in these pictures:
Mrs. Argyle, St. LouisAge and Occupation: 24, Project CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, PilotEngagement Date: February 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on WashingtonAbout Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
While we are not including children in our wedding (this includes not having a flower girl or ring bearer), I love the idea of making sure the kids have something to do. Weddings are not exactly the most kid-friendly places, but if kids are a huge part of your life and family, I definitely think they should feel included.
One of the newer trends in weddings is having a kids’ section or kids’ table with activities for the kids to work on. I love this idea. There are plenty of examples all over the web, but this one featured by Heather at We Met in a Bar is a great example of how to keep the kiddos occupied.
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Mr. Starfish proposed almost exactly five years from the day we met. To be honest, neither of us remember the date we met, but it was in October of 2003 at Salve Regina in Newport, RI. (I’ll get to that story later.) Five years after our first introduction, Mr. Starfish took me back to the very place we met.
He planned the whole thing out perfectly. When we arrived in Newport, the weather was perfect. It was a beautiful fall day. It’s my favorite time of year and my favorite kind of weather.
I kept thinking it was the perfect time to propose. I had been bugging Mr. Starfish for a while. I told my mom, my sister and a few of my closest friends that I thought he was going to propose. It just seemed so perfect. I had thought quite a few times (a couple different trips to Disney, other trips to Newport, a trip to NH on our four year anniversary, Christmas, etc. etc.) before that he was going to propose, so telling my friends and family I thought this wasn’t anything new. Even though I told them, part of me still wasn’t sure because I had felt so sure the other times, too.
The one thing that made me a little more sure this time was the fact that Mr. Starfish told me his parents were giving him the diamond his father proposed to his mother with. Read more…
Ms. Stripes, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 29, Costume Designer/StylistFiancee's Age and Occupation: 29, ChefEngagement Date: June 23, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heritage Square MuseumAbout Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka
Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
It’s moving week here in Stripe world. Sigh. As I sit on my couch writing this post I’m surrounded by half-finished STDs and an ever increasing sea of boxes that make my heart race. And not in a good way. And then there’s the wedding crap.
Have you ever looked around at the fast accumulating wedding crap that’s taking over your house/apartment/life and wondered, ‘what the hell am I gonna do with this stuff after the wedding?’
In attempting to have a green (ish) wedding I like to think about where this stuff is going after our wedding and not just rejoice in my initial discovery. Read more…
Mrs. Perfume, DCAge and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, ConsultantEngagement Date: May 13, 2008Wedding Date: May, 2009Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, VirginiaAbout Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
I’ve had so many false starts and promises to you guys to start my recaps. I did the honeymoon and a sprinkling of this and that. And now it’s almost 10 months since our wedding, and I *still* haven’t done any recaps. Until now. I regret not doing them sooner, as some of my memories have faded. If you’re documenting your own wedding, do yourself a favor and don’t wait. Try to remember as much as you can and write it down. It goes by so fast!
If you don’t recall, I’m Mrs. Perfume, and I got married last May on the same day as the lovely Mrs. Taffy and Mrs. Peep Toe, who have been way more diligent with their recaps than I have. So, hi, again!
But before we get to the Big Day, I’ll start with the events of the days before the wedding. Read more…
Mrs. Bunny, ColumbusAge and Occupation: 24, Associate Editor/ReporterFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, ReporterEngagement Date: September 23, 2008Wedding Date: July 2009Venue: Everal Barn, WestervilleAbout Me: Organized, but messy. I love art (all kinds). I don't have any secrets. I talk a lot and listen even more. I show love by baking. I'm timid by nature, but brave when it counts.
Mr. Bunny and I work at competing weekly newspapers, which makes it a little interesting trying to describe our work joys and frustrations without giving away too much before the paper comes out. In spite of that little hurdle, we've managed to build a pretty solid relationship in the short one-and-a-half years we will have been together when we tie the knot. I can't wait!
At the end of Bunny Bachelorette, Part I, I left you all guessing where we headed for the party.
If you guessed bowling, you were right!
Hmm… which one is mine?
We headed out to a small town outside Columbus, Plain City, for our bowling excursion. The bowling alley there is small and quiet, usually. It’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Read more…
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, INAge and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firmFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
Where veils are concerned, I don’t have a clear vision at all. The only veil I’ve ever worn was my communion veil, which I will admit was pretty exciting as a third grader. Still, having no veil ideas, I gathered up my options.
At first I was really enamored of the look of dropped veils; they’re so romantic. But since I’ll be wearing my bangs down, I don’t want a smooshed-bang situation caused by a veil laying on my face. Pretty, but no dice. Read more…
Mrs. Spaniel, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 28, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, PsychologistWedding Date: March 2010Venue: Calamigos RanchAbout Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
I had every intention of doing my own wedding day makeup. I don’t wear much on a regular basis and I’m a total klutz when it comes to precision application (eyeliner scares the bejesus out of me), but I’d be damned if I was paying $250 for makeup I wasn’t sure I’d like. I’d checked out every portfolio the Internet could offer me, and what I found was a lot of this:
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. ThomasAge and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & HairstylistFiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio ProducerEngagement Date: May 22, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. ThomasAbout Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
I had to. I swear, it totally relates to this post. And if you now have the song in your head like I do, here’s the link to Dick in a Box on SNL.
Anywho, last week I found a cute little box online from the Container Store that I thought would be perfect for a card box for our home party… Read more…
Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
Well, the day after my neurotic post went up, I ordered our favorites. I just couldn’t not do it, especially after all of the delightful prodding and peer pressure. You may wonder what has taken me so long to write about them, eh? They came in a while ago, and as much as I hate saying it, well, I’m a little disappointed. Read more…
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force PilotEngagement Date: February 21, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill WineryAbout Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
I have some news to share: Mr. Jelly and I will be legally married once our September wedding rolls around. We’re not really keeping it a secret, but we’re not really broadcasting it to the world, either (well… until now. Oops.). I guess for us it’s not a huge deal, but I’ve been around the Weddingbee boards enough to know that this is fairly common (especially amongst military brides and those applying for visas) and that people have differing feelings about it. So, I wanted to be honest about it and tell you why we decided to go this route. I also wanted other marriage-before-wedding brides to know they’re not alone!
So, why did we decide to make it legal before the big wedding? There are three main reasons. The first is Mr. Jelly’s military career. The sooner we get married, the sooner I can become a military dependent and get things like health insurance and other benefits, as well as more peace of mind when he’s deployed. It turns out these are extremely common reasons for going this route. In fact, future SIL and bridesmaid S did the same thing:
Mr. Jelly’s Marine brother and my future SIL before their civil ceremony, back in 2005.
Mrs. Lamb, NorfolkAge and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security ConsultantFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate StudentEngagement Date: January 2009Wedding Date: January 2010Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera HouseAbout Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
Mrs. Sewing, San Mateo, CA/Honolulu, HIAge and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: June 27, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Anela Garden Chapel & Japanese Cultural Center, HonoluluAbout Me: I'm an easily entertained, compulsive idea-scheming machine who loves good art, good food, and a good engineering challenge. I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
Stamps are fun, aren’t they? Whether it’s your monogram, motif, or just for fun, it’s pretty useful to have an easy way of transferring an image over. In the same way, it can also be useful to have an “e-stamp”. Instead of importing or placing your image over and over while designing, you can just turn it into a stamp instead.
Once again, I’ll be using Photoshop, but you can do similar things in the free program GIMP if you don’t have PS.
First, open up the image you want to make into a stamp. It’s good to have a good resolution image that’s fairly large, if you intend on making stamps of various sizes.
A good stamp has high contrast between black & white, and a clear definition around the image (i.e. no backgrounds!) Read more…

Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RIAge and Occupation: 29, PhD StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy AssistantEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Narragansett TowersAbout Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
A long time ago, we settled on the idea of ceremony program fans. Fans! Nothing says easy-breezy like some card stock glued to a Popsicle stick (that’s all I’d have to do, right?).
