About Mrs. Taco

Go [Enter Team/City/State Here]

April 2nd, 2010 @ 3:47 pm by Mrs. Taco

The only sport I understand and care about is baseball, so my sports-fandom is a blissfully limited one. (Go, Giants.) I went to the University of California at Davis. While it dominated Division II sports during my time there, you could still find a good bit of people, including myself, who only went to a few games during their college years.

Conversely, Mr. Taco is from Texas. (Can you see where this is going?) He’s actually not huge into pro sports, college football, or Texas itself, but the rest of the state is hardcore about all of the above. Shapes of Texas, stars, and longhorn-cattle outlines are all over the state. Parents-in-law (and Mr. Taco, for that matter) went to the University of Texas at Austin; they’ve got me hook-em, horns-ing at every turn. MIL Taco worked at Texas Christian University for 20 years, and she has the most impressive purple wardrobe I’ve ever seen.

Brothers-in-law also went to TCU. BIL 1 married a Baylor University alum, and their collective college-sports pride made a few noteworthy appearances at their 2008 wedding. Their truffle favors had a little rhyming message from “a TCU groom and his Baylor bride.” She waved her green-and-yellow pom poms in a photo or two. TCU bridal-party members walked in the heat from the on-campus chapel ceremony to this horned-frog mascot for pics:

They clearly wanted their school pride to show strongly on their big day. I can’t relate to the sports thing in general, as noted. And while I’m mega-proud to be a UCD alum, my pride shows by following UC-related news, reading the alumni magazine, and wearing my college hoodie. Oh, and I have one of these guys in Beanie Baby-format:

I do understand wanting to represent something important to you (be it team, city, state, whatever), because it’s a part of who you are. From our engagement pics to our venue to our most favorite California wine, we’re hoping our out-of-state guests will leave loving California as much as we do.

There are a billion different ways to show your city/state/school/sports pride in your wedding; are you going that route?

We are framing an American and Swedish flag together to show our pride of where we each come from.

Nope, we’re not doing anything like that… We’re more about showcasing our personalities and tastes (country music, crafts, my obsession w/ polka dots!) than our associations. Can’t wait to see how you incorporate these things into your big day! BTW BIG fan of UCD (I remember Sorority Life on MTV) and my riding instructor went there!

@alohababy28: That show put the school on the map! We used to see those girls in the bars all the time (they were only a year or two older than me).

@Ciyra: BevMo has a few you should definitely check it out!

Hubby went to UC Davis. He’s 31 in a few days, so you guys were probably there at the same time. Go Aggies? =p Hubby’s cousin’s wife did an IU groom’s cake for their wedding in Indiana.

Since Mr TM, me, my little brother and my mom all went to the same college, we’ve got a lot of school pride going on! We’ll def do am alumni pic with a banner of our school’s name, since there will be over 30 graduates there!

My garter was OSU themed. OSU is where we met so I wanted to incorporate in some way, but not make a huge deal about it because there was only one other person at our wedding that attended school with us.

Both my fiance and I went to small liberal arts colleges where sports aren’t very important. We’re both big fans of our schools, but it just doesn’t seem important or relevant to our wedding.

We’re getting married in Seattle and are tying that in a bit–our STDs had a photo of fireworks off of the Space Needle (which happens every NYE which is our weddingdate), we’ll be serving Washington wine and Seattle beer, and our engagement pics will be taken in the city. That’s about it though.
