Mrs. Turtle's Picture
Mrs. Turtle, Central California Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student Engagement Date: August 16, 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
About Mrs. Turtle

Mr. Turtle and I have been engaged long enough for me to have seen a lot of engagement photo shoots. When it came time for us to get ours done a few weeks ago, we found it really difficult to narrow down all of the ideas we’d had!

Outfits were the easy part for us! As you might have sensed already, the Turtles love their clothes! :)

First: “The Vintage Look”

Planning our Engagement Portraits: Part One : wedding central ca dress 17 1

I planned to wear the above dress from Anthropologie, black heels, and a cute vintage hat I bought at an antique store in high school. Mr. Turtle planned to coordinate in a vintage black Lacoste cardigan over a white collared shirt and black Converse.

Second: “The All Dressed Up Look”

Planning our Engagement Portraits: Part One : wedding central ca dress 24 2

I planned to wear the above dress by Kensie, bought at a great price from Nordstrom Rack! Mr. Turtle chose a skinny black suit from H&M.

Third: “The Casual Look”

Planning our Engagement Portraits: Part One : wedding central ca dress 33 3

I planned on wearing a navy velvet blazer from J.Crew, an embellished t-shirt from J.Crew, Rock and Republic jeans, and brown leather boots by Michael Kors. I can’t find pictures of Mr. Turtle’s outfit, but he chose grey and brown plaid Diesel pants and a graphic rock band t-shirt.

As you can probably tell, I had so much fun putting together our outfits, because I feel like they really represent our styles. In my opinion, great clothes really make great engagement portraits! Was I excited about getting our engagement pictures taken? Oh yes. Am I overly obsessed with planning every little detail? Maybe a little…

Which of our three looks is your favorite? If you got engagement pictures taken, did you enjoy picking outfits like I did?

I like them all but I think I’m leaning more towards the vintage look. :)

Just curious — are these 3 looks you’re considering, or are you going to use all 3 for the shoot? We’re doing ours at the end of the month & I’d love to change up the looks, but we’re doing it outdoors at a park and have no idea when/where we’d be able to actually change our outfits. Any ideas? :)

I love the dress in look one, but I love the entire outfit of look three!!! (also that beautiful pic of Robert Pattinson). In response to adriben, I had my senior pics taken outside and had 3 or 4 different outfits and changed in my mom’s van! Lol, it was very interesting to say the least……

look 1 is by far my favorite: young, cute and sophisticated.

out of curiosity, what is the name of the font you used to write “look 1,” “look 2″ etc.? Thanks Miss Turtle!

finding an outfit is a little excruciating, bc we have less than two weeks to go. Still no idea what to wear. I’m hoping to stumble across it somewhere! I love look number one btw, so cute!

As an engagement photographer, I MUST say….the pink “All Dress Up” outfit is my fav!! That color would be just lovely on film. More muted colors are nice, but in an Engagement session, the focus needs to be on the couple!! And those colors will totally make you pop!! :D

Have fun with your session!!! I bet it will be amazing!!!

I love the casual look the best! And I did the same thing too! Pretty much the same three looks just instead of vintage we had the football look. But our eshoots feel through. :(((

I love all 3 looks. You have great style. I think the decision might depends on the location of your photo shoot- if you are doing something casual and outdoorsy, I would wear something more casual.

@adriben: We borrowed my mom’s mini-van for our engagement shoot! We changed clothes in the back of the van since it has tinted windows. It was a little complicated/tight but was so worth it when we saw how great both of our outfits worked!

Just to clarify, we already took our engagement pictures, we wore all three outfits!
@adriben: We wore all three but at locations that were close to Mr. Turtle’s parents’ house, so we went there and changed in between each look. I agree with some of the other commenters that changing in the car might be your best bet! Or find a place nearby where you can change in a bathroom.
@aliceinweddingland: The font I used is called Monterey!

@Lillindy: I tried to list where I got everything in the post, but the dress I wore was from Anthropologie and Mr. Turtle’s sweater was from a vintage store in Santa Barbara. I didn’t end up wearing those shoes! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I’m definitely a fan of the All Dressed Up look…minus the Robert Pattinson of course. For me, it’s just so much more fun to dress up for pictures though I do get the casual look. We ended up doing both. Oddly enough, the casual clothes were for a formal studio shoot and the dressy clothes were for a park shoot, but it seemed to work out pretty well.
