Mrs. Ribbons's Picture
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor Engagement Date: May 2, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Indiana Memorial Union About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
About Mrs. Ribbons

I am in the thick of making my invitations. I have the letterpress invites. I printed the envelopes. So it was time to make the rest of the suite: the hotel card and the reply card.

I printed the secondary pieces at home to save money. I used the same color of Crane paper as the letterpress invites to maintain consistency. So I printed all of these pieces out, multiple “cards” to a sheet of letter-sized paper.

Then the cutting began. Let’s just say I didn’t enjoy this part.

This took me several hours. Several tedious, annoying, agonizing, soul-crushing hours. I prefer not to think about it.

What lengths have you gone to in the name of DIY?

Lovely! But for the sake of your hands, perhaps you should invest in a guillotine paper cutter?

We printed our invitations from home on our laser printer and they sure were a labor of love. Cutting separately the invitation, and the two back cards. Those took us so long we ended up ordering the rest of the cards from an online printer! I totally feel your ‘cutting’ pain!

@tweds: The thought occurred to me after I had cut the majority of the cards :) Maybe for the next project.
@mrsheart: I used an HP Photosmart inkjet.

what a great budget saver though! I am soo terrible at cutting things. I always think just a little bit more. Then more. Then more. Then there is nothing!! Congrats on finishing.

your poor hands!!! I cut tons of pieces (4, one being a “frame” ) for my STD’s. Luckily, for my invitations, I discovered that Kinko’s will cut paper (up to 500 sheets at a time for regular paper, 250 at a time for cardstock) for under 2.00 a cut! And it’s perfect! And you can save your hands! Fellow bee’s, I cut all 5 pieces for my invitations for less than 30 bucks and it took 20 minutes. I highly recommend it!!!

All those scraps tell me that you were cutting for a LONG time! I feel your pain! I hand cut our candy bag labels to be in a topnote type shape…that sucked big time.

OH man, cutting out things seemed so easy before I started in on all the DIY paper products. I’m now really contemplating getting someone else to cut out the remaining stuff.

Luckily we are going to cut all of ours at a local letterpress studio. So instead of cutting each one, we will cut them all at once. =) I was so happy when I found out this as it would have taken me forever.

I did the same thing. I ordered invitations and then did the rest myself. SO MUCH work. And to think I thought I could do it without a paper cutter. Yeah…..I bought one after about 30 minutes of messing with the cards and scissors. :-P

Those look great! I have created piles of paper like that too. I find it helps to offer people food and give them scissors!

The invitations were a big pain for me too… I tried to use that lovely fiskars cutter you used, but it didn’t work for me.. so I used an exacto and straight edge for mine! Talk about tedious. And I’m totally anal, and don’t trust anyone to help (totally my own fault!) I have about 3/4 of my inserts cut! I’m rounding third and heading home! (on the invites….) My programs will be the next most laborious task! 5 pages of petals to cut out for each one.. then I’m using a eyelet setter - which is extremely tedious!!

Everybody better love them! :) Yours look great miss ribbons!
