Bandwagons and Jumping Onto Them

April 5th, 2010 @ 9:57 am by Mrs. Lace

I really wanted the wedding to be a little different than what people expected, but when it came down to it, I couldn’t help but jump onto a couple of wedding bandwagons. I didn’t even waver back and forth, deciding whether or not I should jump onto the wagon or not. I chased it down and made it stop for me so I could get on. Oh well.

1. Candy Bar

Mr. Lace and I really love candy. We decided early on that our favor had to be useful (actually useful, not something people could use, but still would never use) or edible. We went with edible, since we love eating.

As much as I’d love to do something beautifully matched like this:

There are a lot of candies I’d rather share with my guests that Mr. Lace and I love like Snickers, Red Vines, Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Almond Joy, Sour Patch Kids, Sour Apples, Gummi Bears, Peanut M&Ms, Gummy Peach Rings, Rolo… okay, so you can tell that our candy bar won’t match. Oh well. At least it’ll be tasty!

2. Photobooth

We’ve attended several weddings that have had photobooths and we still have fun every single time being goofy and taking a photo. Maybe they’re played out, but we still think they’re a blast.  We’re using Snappy Joe Photography. We attended a friend’s wedding that used Snappy Joe and they had a fun touch screen that you used to start taking your photos. Look at how much fun these people are having!

Are you jumping on any wedding bandwagons?

I have to laugh… these are the same two bandwagons we are jumping on! However, I am of the belief that those not involved in the wedding world (like all of us) are not as aware that these things have become so popular. Plus, we will be doing tons of more original things to balance out the candy bar and photobooth.

I have totally jumped on the photobooth bandwagon. It’s still pretty new in Northern New England, so I am hoping my guests will have fun with it.

We’re excited for the photobooth! Only one wedding out of all of our friends had a booth and we had a blast, so we’re hoping it will be fun for everyone.

Those are two bandwagons I’d love to jump on! Unfortunately, budget doesn’t allow - poop! It’ll be exciting to see the funny pix the photobooth captures.

I’ve got to say…. I’ve only seen one candy bar in real life and no photobooths… so I think that most people will still like them! I am not doing a candy bar due to lack of budget, but I think I’m going to set up a “faux-tobooth” with my mac. :)

i we’re totally doing the candy buffet and it will be very matchy matchy in pinks and oranges. i really want to do the photobooth but my parents don’t think its a necessity and since they are footing the bill its kind of their choice… but i pout :( lol! don’t they realize the priceless memories that could be captured!?!?! but i have considered doing a makeshift photobooth, one of those wallpapered plywood freestanding walls with a framed opening for people to pose behind. i love that idea! we’ll see if we can fit it into the already kind of long DIY list.

My photog offered a photobooth as part of her package if I booked a second shooter so off I go on that bandwagon and I’m SO pumped about it!

We’re doing a candy bar but we’re going with your second picture - of the technocolor tastebud pleaser. I went to one wedding and the candy bar was BEAUTIFUL and matched to their white, green, and lavender color scheme.. but the candy, eh. We’re going with candy we love and loved as kids - marchmallow ice cream cones, those wax bottles with the goo in them, swedish fish, red vines, blow pops, tootsie pops, sour patch kids, skittles, those candy dots that are stuck to paper, etc.

We are doing a candy buffet! I am so excited! They might seem over done if you look at all the blogs, but no one I actually *know* has been to a wedding with one.

We’re doing the candy bar - but so far everyone who is going to my wedding that we’ve talked to about it has no clue what they are.

So I guess it won’t be over done or trendy for our guests, who apparantly have no idea what a candy buffet is. :-) Lucky us!

I love both the photobooth and candy bar, and although I’ve seen them all over the blog world, I have not been to a wedding with either yet.

@Future Frett: Yes, I’m trying to keep things fresh. I’m in a string of 6 weddings in the span of 2 months so we have to keep things fresh!!

@Ms. Library: @llc2011: @CorgiTales: @thistleandclovers: @silverbrooke: @Miss Frozen Yogurt: I’ve only been to one with a candy buffet so that’s true. However, I think a couple of weddings we’re attending this year MAY have it. My friend is having an ice cream bar at hers. HOW awesome is that?!

@Miss Trail Mix: Woah! That’s helpful! Kill two birds with one stone!

@CorgiTales: @alivoo01: @Kemi82JP: It seems like a lot of brides are doing DIY photobooths and have been pretty successful!

Those are the same two bandwagons I’m jumping on too! And like Miss Fro Yo said, as overdone as they seem on wedding blogs, I have never been to a wedding with a candy bar or a photo booth. I don’t think any of our guests have either, so I can’t wait!

I love the candy bar! I’ve been to one wedding with a cookie buffet, and one with a full dessert buffet.

I am on the candy bar wagon, but I don’t think it is as common to my guests is it is to the wedding planning community at large.

We jumped on the fauxtobooth bandwagon for Sister Starfish’s Shower and the candy buffet for the weding, both were huge hits! Your guests will love them!

I’ve actually been to a wedding that had a candy bar and another with a photobooth, but bandwagons are jumped on for a reason! I’m dying to go to another wedding with either - or both! - of those things. No one will think it’s unoriginal, they’ll only be saying “Candy!! Photo booth!! Yaaaayyy!” At least, that’s what I’d be saying :)

Also, if you want your candy bar to be matchy, you can always use opaque containers in your colors and use coordinated cards to label them with what’s inside. I think you’re right on about using candy you love, not just what’s the “right” color.

Yup, we’re doing the photobooth (or fauxtobooth) too! I love the candy bar idea too!
