I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! About Mrs. Sewing

Metal for Marriage

April 5th, 2010 @ 2:22 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Flashback to eight months ago:

Mr. Sew: “So, what kind of wedding band do you want with your ring?”
Me: “Plain and simple, I think.”
Mr. Sew: “I saw these really cool stackable interlocking sets…”
Me: “Stackable? Nuu. That sounds like a Lego. I don’t want a Lego ring. How hokey!”
Mr. Sew: “No really! They were pretty cool.”
Me: “You say ’cool’ like you say robots are cool, or how the part-oven at work is cool. I don’t think I like that kind of cool on my finger for the rest of my life.”
Mr. Sew: “Hey, don’t hate it until you see what I’m talking about.”

Well, *sheepish grin*, Mr. Sew was right. Ring sets can be kind of cool, and not as hokey as whatever strange lego-block image I had pictured in my mind. I found my desired plain and simple white gold ring, with a small twist - it’s contoured to fit against my engagement ring.

Neato! Now, it looks pretty silly by itself, but since my e-ring is fairly unobtrusive, I plan on never wearing them apart anyway.

Mr. Sew opted for a matching band, minus the bending. He chose the comfort fit, which has more of a bevel on the inside. And interestingly enough, we both wear about the same size! If not for the little bend in mine, it would be hard to tell them apart!

Badges from our first convention together!

Combined, the rings were only about $130. To the raised eyebrows of the salesperson, we put our cheap rings on the payment plan for six months. Why? Because I didn’t want to be responsible for holding onto them for a year. They are less likely to get lost if they aren’t in our house. But after we were late for one of our $20 dollar payments, we decided that the whole thing was ridiculous and not worth the hassle. I asked the salesperson if I could just pay off the rings and leave them there, but she just gave me a blank stare and said no.

So now they sit at home amongst the other denizens of casa Sewing, some of who were quite interested to play with the shiny metal objects…

Who needs gym badges?! Let’s bribe the Elite Four with some bling!

Now it’s two rings to rule them all?

Metal for Marriage : wedding honolulu rings Domo

DOMOOOOOOOO!

Take out that guy with the super-late RSVP? Bounty hunter, paid in full.

See why I wanted to keep them safely outside of the house? Let’s hope that our little rings haven’t been collected, cast into molten lava, eaten or traded for galactic credits in the next few months. I think Mr. Sew and I might need them at the wedding!

Where are you keeping your wedding bands prior to the wedding?

I have a fire safe that I keep my passport and other important documents in. My band is now in there. That way, I can’t lose it or ogle it too much :-)

The domo holding the rings is soooo cute and silly! Ours are sitting in my underwear drawer… But I’d so love to stick one around the ear of my labbit! ;)

How on earth are we ever supposed to keep up with two little boxes in the midst of all the other wedding mayhem madness?! I feel your pain. If you or a friend has a safety deposit box, You could keep them there until then. Otherwise the above pictured members of the sewing household will have to keep a close eye on them.

These photos made my laugh out loud at work. Ours are going in the cabinet of our bedside table. It’s the place we stick everything that absolutelypositivelymustnotbelostever.

These are hilarious photos, I love ‘em!! Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it) our rings haven’t come in yet (even tho we ordered them in December) so I don’t have to worry about it quite yet!

hahaha. Love the pictures and I feel your fear. We keep ours at the bottom of my sock drawer - and I check periodically to make sure they are still there and to remind myself that they are still there.

Leaving them behind when we fly back to our hometown for our wedding features prominently in my wedding nightmares…

I LOL’d so loud at the LOTR one. Our rings are in their boxes in two little bags in our “wedding corner” section of our room. So basically, it’s in two bags in one larger bag sitting on the floor next to our cake toppers.

Too funny! Gosh you crack me up! Wedding bands - now that we’re married, they’re permanently on our hands… but beforehand, I kept them in the box that was storing all the ’special’ stuff I had for the wedding day - my hair flower, garter, my vows, etc. Meant that it was always in a safe place, and I wouldn’t get it lost amongst the other stuff!

We’re keeping ours in the safety deposit box where all other important documents are. They would surely get misplaced in our house!!
