Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
About Mrs. Jellyfish

I suppose this post is particularly relevant due to recent news. Remember my post about my awful experience trying to book a civil ceremony updo? Well, after writing that post, I took out my anger in a very long and detailed Yelp review. Within 48 hours, I received a message on Yelp from the owner of the salon. She was very apologetic and said she felt horrible about the whole thing. She said she had already made changes to the salon’s bridal policies and that she wanted to offer me a free service to entice me to come back. After all, I’ve been going to the salon for 3 years now and my usual hairstylist had nothing to do with the updo fiasco. So I accepted her apology, posted an updated review, and messaged her back. In my message, I admitted to her that after the “incident”, I was so put off by the whole thing that I stopped looking for a hair salon to do my updo. I was just going to blow out my hair and let it be that. I told her that if my free service could be my civil ceremony updo, I’d be very grateful, but I said that if they couldn’t do that then I’d just get my hair cut with my regular stylist. She messaged me back and said she’d not only give me the free haircut, but the free updo for my civil ceremony as well! Shortly after, a stylist called me to book my updo appointment. There is justice in this world!

Good Things Come to Those Who Yelp : wedding hair pleasanton resources Yelp 395 yelp-395

My favorite website on the planet (other than Weddingbee, of course).

I have to say, I’m impressed with how seriously the owner of the salon took my Yelp review. Not only did she offer me the free services, but she changed the salon’s entire bridal policy (I looked at their website and it’s totally different – they don’t even do in-house bridal anymore). She said that my review was the final straw for their bridal coordinator, who was already disliked by many of the stylists and who was waving her arms frantically when she heard the stylist quoting me $50-75 for special event hair. Let’s just say they don’t have a bridal coordinator anymore.

In conclusion, I love Yelp. Yelp is the ultimate tool – not just for finding various services, and also for keeping businesses accountable. This isn’t the first time Yelp has worked wonders for me – I’ve had several other negative experiences resolved thanks to Yelp. My experiences with Yelp have led me to believe that most businesses really do care and want to make their customers happy in the end. Or they just don’t want a bad rap. Either way, it works for me.

What about you? Are you a big Yelp fiend like I am? Have you ever had a business contact you because of your Yelp review?

I’m a huge Yelp fan. If you want to get honest opinions about something, just go to Yelp I always say!

I received quotes for wedding hair in crazy ranges, some people want $275 to $500!!! They are straight up crazy! I am lucky enough to have found an amazing girl who does hair and is a friend of a friend, and is willing to come on-site and do it for a very reasonable price.

I’ve had great experiences with Yelp. I’m still waiting for it to work wonders with my one no-show vendor, though… ;)

Yelp is the BEST, especially when businesses are supportive of the process as well, and use it to their advantage…everyone wins! When I’m traveling I pick all my restaurants based on Yelp reviews and they’ve never steered me wrong.
Yelp should start a special wedding section or something…

I’ve only been harassed by business owners over Yelp, but so glad they were nice to you! :)

I’ve found really amazing restaurants and services through Yelp, but it’s important to remember that advertisers can change the placement of negative ads on the site and the site in general is being sued for extortion by multiple businesses. So like everything else, taken with a grain of salt! But again, so happy this worked out for you!

glad it worked out for you! i love yelp, but im kind of scared of posting negative experiences due to all the talks of courtroom going around. it takes a strong business to admit their mistakes and make up for them!

I just wanted to say you are not alone in your battles against being overcharged for “bridal” hair services! I had the same thing happen to me and vowed to never go back again. Thank you for sharing your info about Yelp.com. I have written a review and have already helped someone else!
