Registering for the Fun Stuff

April 6th, 2010 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Starfish

When we first registered, it was 22 months before our wedding. Our friends were throwing us an engagement party and we were told to set up a registry with a few options. We decided to start out with Crate and Barrel. At that point we had no home, and weren’t sure what we actually needed or wanted. We liked the idea of adding a few small ticket decorative and entertaining items.

So, why Crate and Barrel? It seemed like a good starting point. They have great “price points” for an engagement party. This was kind of our “starter registry”, before really having to think about the important things. This was a registry of wants, as the second registry would be filling the needs and would be much more practical.

Our Crate registry ended up with about 10 items on it for our engagement party. It’s been over a year since we created it, and it’s up to about 20 items and I’m pretty sure it will stay that way.

My favorite decorative item is Crate’s Hutton Table Lamp. I think it will go perfect with our future bed set.

Mr. Starfish’s favorite is the Miranda Trifle Bowl. He’s hoping I’ll make him lots of chocolate trifle (or goop, as he calls it), in the years to come.

A few notes on Crate’s registry:

  • They offer a 10% completion bonus. After the wedding, you can save 10% on unfulfilled registry items, including furniture
  • They offer a “Thank You Manager”. Before you receive the gift, you’ll know whom it’s from. You’ll also be able to keep track of who you’ve thanked
  • Gift Registry Bonus gifts—they have special offers based on what you register for
  • 30 day return policy
  • Registry guide and check list
  • Announcement cards

Are you registering at more than one store? Do your registries have different vibes (practical, fun, decorative, etc.)?

We are going for the traditional registry and the modern registry :) We have a honeymoon registry, which has most of the things we want (we have been living together for 3 years!), but also have a traditional Sears registry for the more traditional family members who struggle with the honeymoon registry idea!!

We have a C&B one, a Target one, and a honeymoon registry. We like to give people options and different price points. The honeymoon registry also makes it easier for people who are flying across the country so they don’t have to pack anything for a gift!

We registered at C&B, Macys and Bed Bath and Beyond. I had no idea C&B had gift registry bonuses, maybe thats new since our wedding last year? Thats cool!

The thank you manager is new too - they had that before but only so I could keep track and enter what each person got me. I like that they keep track for you now, I had a gift where I forgot who got it for us so it took a long time to figure it out when I couldve used their thank you manager!

We’re registered at too many stores. Bad Scissorssss. We’re just too picky about which things we use.

I L-O-V-E C&B! We have 2 Canadian registries and 2 American registries… My mother is encouraging our Canadian friends & family to buy from the US websites so our gifts can be delivered to our new home. Otherwise I have to ship it to the US & pay duty on the new goods. Blah.

woo hoo we’re beginning our c&b registry! Did you go to one of their registry parties or did you do it online/in store??? We’re also registering at Target (love that store) and Bergner’s. We’re debating on whether or not to register at home depot or menard’s so he can have tools! We were told that you should register for one store per 100 guests and we’re having 400 people. I just don’t know if that is too much…

We just had to register for our honeymoon! We’ve got all the domestics we need at the moment, though I’m very envious of people’s Kitchenaid mixers.

@mebless: We missed the in store party, we just went in and set it up at a store, but I’ve heard the parties are great! We almost registered at 4, but we have a lot less guets. I think 4 is more than fine!

We’re attending a C&B registry party in a couple of weeks and are thinking about registering at BB&B or Target or Sear’s so the FI can get some tools…

Heehee, “goop” is adorable. I love that lamp—we might need to get one for ourselves!
