About Mrs. Pencils

Mr. Pencils and I are ultra lucky to have wonderful grandmothers in our lives. They’re amazing role models and have both been so fantastic during the wedding planning.

Mr. Pencils’ grandmother outdid herself a few weekends ago. She added three amazing things to our wedding day that I can’t wait to share with you all.

A long, long time ago (like, two months after we got engaged), Mr. Pencils and I mentioned that we needed a wedding cake server and knife. A few months after that, my mother offered us her and my father’s and then, just a few weeks ago, Mr. P’s grandmother (Gaga!) presented us with these beauties:

Such a beautiful design!

Then, she mentioned to Mr. P over the holidays that she would love for us to use a family cake topper that had been around for a long time. (We made our own cake topper, but with the addition of the cake buffet table, it ought to look cool on the table itself, as decoration!)

Then, she gave me my belated Christmas gift and what did it all arrive in but a gorgeous ivory make up case perfect for my bridal jewelry and essentials! Check out this awesome photo prop!

Lovely set. I got a bracelet from my MIL to wear on the day-of. I actually love it! My SILs got matching ones, too, on their special days.

My mom gave us cake servers and toasting flutes. Neither is exactly what I would have picked out, but with some re-ribboning they should look pretty and they are just not details I think are worth fussing about too much! I’m just glad to have something to cut the cake with and drink champagne out of. :)

I have the same wedding cake server and knife set! I love it, as well.

Sadly, no. But we did get a hideous (and might I add..USED) cardbox that apparently is really important to my aunt that we use. We already had one planned, but now we have to figure out how to decorate this hideous thing so we don’t hurt her feelings. I would honestly prefer people not give us things “for the wedding” because their tastes almost never fit your own. You got lucky!

My fiance’s mother caught me looking at Fiestaware while we were thinking about what to register for. We decided to go the china-only route because we felt that asking for two complete sets of dishes was too much. I was shocked when, just a few weeks later, my MIL bought us more Fiestaware than I could dream of–7 yellow and 8 red place settings. It was such a generous, thoughtful gift! I cannot wait to use them. Isn’t it wonderful to feel so included in the “new” family–and such extravagant generousity from everyone!
