My Dad, the Easter Ham

April 7th, 2010 @ 2:52 pm by Mrs. Nachos

On Easter, I was standing in the kitchen with Mr. Nachos and my parents while my dad was cutting up the ham, and we were talking wedding stuff. That’s when I decided it was the perfect time to ask my dad if he would walk me down the aisle. I know it didn’t have to be asked, but I wanted him to know that it was important to me and something I was really looking forward to. His response?

Only if we can both wear these…

Dad: “You and I can bounce off each other a few times on the way down the aisle, then I can bump Mr. N and yell, ’she’s all yours!’”

Mr. Nachos: ”We did say people can wear whatever they want to the wedding.”

Dad: ”Well, in that case, I’m just wearing my Jockeys.”

Yup, that’s my Dad! :) Needless to say, it’s going to be a fun week on vacation with my family - it’s been a long time since that’s happened.

Who’s walking you down the aisle? (And I hope for your sake they plan on wearing clothes!)

Oh that is too funny and how cute is your dad! My dad will be walking me down the aisle :) As one of only two girls and the last to marry, I think it might be harder this time for him.

Unfortunatly, mine’s a little up in the air. I was planning to have my dad walk me, but do to some unforeseen familial issues I don’t know if I want that anymore. So, I figure I’ll wait until the wedding gets closer, see how things end up and make my decision a month or so out. Worst case scenario - I go at it alone with my parents watching. It’s only a 30 second walk or something like that, so not a huge deal, right?

ugh…this has been a tough one for me. My dad and I aren’t that close so what I came up with was this. A 3 part walk.

Part 1 - Close family friend who was my “dad” for my highschool gradutation. He has two boys and he will never be walking anyone dwn the aisle.

He will then hand me off to….

Part 2 - Close family friend who played a big role in my life growing up.

And he will hand me off to …

Part 3 - my dad. He will finish up the walk down the aisle and hand me off at the end!

My dad brought a Staples “Easy Button” to our wedding rehearsal. He had it in his pocket and when he “gave” me to my husband, he hit it so it said “That was easy!”

Gotta love the joke-sters.

Dad’s wheeling me down (he’s in a wheelchair). An uncle apparently offered to step in if, for some reason, he couldn’t do it (weird?), which I’m pretty sure rubbed Pop Taco the wrong way!

The other day my Dad asked what he should wear and I said he could just wear a suit he already owns. He replied, “Great! I’ll plan on wearing my birthday suit. It’s a little hard to iron, but I’ll do what I can.” hahaha

I kinda want to walk down the aisle by myself. I hate the concept of being “given away.” I’ll be 30 when I get married and will have been living on my own for over 11 years, so it just seems weird to me.

But walking me down the aisle means a lot to my Dad, so that’s what I’ll be doing. This is definitely one of those issues that’s not worth fighting over.

My Daddy will be walking me down the aisle and yes, even in my early 30’s I still call him “Daddy”. It’s a well deserved title that will always be his.
He does keep telling me that he plans to stay in the car in the parking lot and when they ask “Who gives this woman?”, he’ll yell “I do” over a mega-phone and drive away laughing.
Somehow I think fatherly humour is a must at all weddings!
