A Double Wedding

April 8th, 2010 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Starfish

In March of ’08 BIL Starfish proposed to Sister Starfish, and about 7 months later, Mr. Starfish got down on two knees and asked me to be his wife.

Starfish Dad was ecstatic, so much so that he started coming up with “great” wedding ideas, like the double wedding, which Sister Starfish was totally on board with, but I, on the other hand was not. I didn’t understand how you could make a wedding personal when you were sharing the day with another couple. I joked with Sister Starfish that we’d do the double wedding if the theme was Mr. and Miss Starfish. She didn’t really care for that theme.

I was perfectly happy planning our own wedding, when one day I was looking at our photographer’s website and for the first time ever, I came across a double wedding! It got me thinking about what could have been.

Look how happy this dad is—and the brides are happy, too!

It would have been so special to have Starfish Dad walk us down the aisle arm in arm in arm.

Some days I wonder what could have been with the double wedding…

Would you ever consider a double wedding?

I’ve never been to a double wedding, but a friend of FI’s got married in a double wedding with her sister. She said they had 2 ceremonies and just shared the reception. I think it could be nice, especially if you’re close with your sister.

I don’t think I would do this personally, but it would be interesting to attend one!

I think its a cute idea and could possibly work, but overall I think its kind of a recipe for disaster, even with the best of intentions.

After my sis got engaged a few months ago and was freaking out about how to squeeze in a wedding with vet school the thought of a double wedding crossed my mind. But then the weirdness of it caught up with me.

But the BEST double wedding I have ever seen happened in my home town where two sets of twins got married in a double wedding!

super cute idea but I’ll be the first to admit I’m way too selfish to do it…I want my own day, ha!

haha sorry but I’m going to have to go with HELL NO. :) My brother got engaged about 4 months before me, and my family joked just once about a double wedding! heh

Dad is smiling because he cut his costs by about 50%.

My mother and her sister were married in a double wedding and to this day (33 years later) she still holds a grudge. Even though my mother was engaged first her sister got to walk down the aisle first because she was the oldest. My mother is still upset about it.

In theory it sounds like it could be a good idea but in practice not so much.

Not in a million years. :)

The pics sort of look like it’s a bigamist wedding, actually. I’m surprised either of the sisters was on board with it!

no way!!! My dad suggested a double wedding last summer right before we got engaged and my twin sister talked about her boyfriend proposing soon…. he was so on board with it. I share a birthday with my sister, which wasn’t by choice, and there is no way I’m sharing my wedding day when I have a choice! Funny enough, my sister is still not engaged, and we’re 7 months out from our wedding.

I definitely couldn’t do it! Each person is unique and even if you have a lot in common, little details will still bite ya! It would be interesting to attend though…

I would totally do it. I love my sisters to death and I’m not picky about details, so I think it would work for for me. I love those pictures - makes me kinda wish one of my sisters was getting married with me :)

I would LOVED to have had a double wedding with my twin. She got married 5 years ago though so she would have had to wait a long time. lol.

I don’t think I’d enjoy sharing the decision-making with yet another party (one fiance was enough, thankyou!), and I don’t have a sister, but more power to anyone who can make this work!

I wasn’t very good at sharing my toys as a child and I don’t think I could share my wedding. My best friend had to share her reception with her little brother who eloped (with a girl who is still in high school…tres scandalous!) and I don’t know how she did it!

My mom’s going to two weddings this summers (besides mine) of two sisters. They’re about 2 months apart. We commented on how they should have doubled up to pool resources, but really, I couldn’t deal with that :)

I guess I never truly believed brides would actually did this. But I guess this is proof that it actually DOES happen!

Kudos to them for sharing the spotlight and probably saving a bundle of money!

I couldn’t imagine until I saw this and was like, um, OKAY: http://www.whitebarninn.com/pg-kennebunkport-maine-honeymoon-packages-2.seo

But of course not really.
