Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Ampersand Love

April 8th, 2010 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

As I try to taper off my search for inspiration, I couldn’t help but notice this picture in the Weddingbee DIY section:

Ampersand Love : wedding dallas decor Large Image large_image

Source via Weddingbee DIY

There is something so simple and sweet about the little hanging ampersand between the two chairs. And, it would match perfectly with our table numbers. We aren’t having a bride and groom sign on our chairs, so I thought it would be a new way to still designate our chairs, but without having to make the signs, since we all know the crafting gene escaped me.

So, I decided to head to Anthropologie and see if I had any luck finding the beloved ampersand. Well, I walked in, got distracted by the sale room and the lovely scent of their signature candle, but I somehow found my way over to housewares, and there it was, sitting and waiting for me. I picked it up and gasped at the $18 price tag for such a simple thing, but I decided to purchase it anyway knowing that if I didn’t want to use it, I could always return it and find a million other things in the store I would want to buy.

I still can’t decide though: is it worth it? Will it look silly hanging between 2 chairs? Do I really want to keep a metal letter for $18? So, I’ve come to you all. Do I scrap the ampersand idea or keep it?

I vote to keep it. I think the idea is totally adorable and how cute will it look on your bookshelf for years to come. An adorable reminder of the first time you sat down and ate with your husband! :)

As much as it is cute, I don’t think it’s practical. Tying your chairs together seems dangerous to me. What if you try to scoot you chair back to say hi to someone while he’s trying to take a bite of food?

Maybe it’s a great inspiration idea, but I’d be timid to do it for practicality.

But….I think the ampersand itself is adorable and agree with MissChirpie, keep it for your home! Maybe you could use it on the cake table or something?

Keep it and use it!! It will look so cute in between the chairs, I totally know exactly what it looks like from my multiple trips there lately! Plus, it will be such a nice memento of the wedding and if you want, you could always pick up yours initials and display all three somewhere!

That is an adorable ampersand! Personally, I would return it and get something else at Anthropologie. It would be a one time use for me! Sorry to be a party pooper!

You can buy a cardboard “&” at Joann’s. They are like $2.50 and you can paint them whatever color you like. And with that price you can even buy 2 initials. The one in the pic even looks like the cardboard kind. Very cheap and easy DIY!

@soonerpsych: That’s a good point!! I think it could be a little unsafe/annoying to have chairs tied together.

I also agree you can find something like that at a craft store for much less. It’s cute though, and if you decide to keep it, I’d dress it up a bit - maybe paint it?

I say keep it! I have the exact same one, which I also bought after seeing this pic. I definitely plan on using it for our wedding.

I love it! Paper Source has cardboard ones as well, if you want to spend a little less. I’m thinking I’ll get ours there…

I like it, but I think it’s one of those things that is good for pictures and that’s about it. We’d probably end up taking it down once we actually sat in our chairs because it would limit our movement too much. The last thing you want is to have your FI move his chair and send you flying!

i was thinking the same as jg, you can find the same at a crafts store for much less. i say if you really want to use it, try to find one at a craft store and then return the metal one.

I love it! If you *really* want something cheaper, I second Stesse’s mention of paper source - they have cardboard ones that you can decoupage with some of the cute paper they have there (i’ve done that at our house, it came out very well, and I am NOT very talented! :)

I think it’s cute! Another option, if you’re worried about it, is to simply tie some tool ribbon into a bow around the two special chairs. None of the chairs at my wedding will be covered, nor will they have bows, so this is what I’m doing to designate the bride and groom chairs. Cheap and easy!

I like it; try to picture where it can go in your house after the wedding, maybe? I try to do that with many of our purchases when doing the worth it/not worth it evaluation.

I bought a “W” and “P” to hang on my FI’s and my chairs. I’m going to use them as bookshelf decoration after the wedding :)

Yes, DO it!!!! You could display it in your home after the wedding, or buy and use them as book ends :)

I think it is cute for a picture, but basically I would be annoyed to have my chair tied to the mister. And I think the orginaly pic it is from a low-key DW, might not make such a statement in a more formal affair

that is the sweetest thing. I’m covering the papier mache letters for our wedding, and I will have to add an ampersand in there somewhere.

Definitely worth the $18! the sentiment is so nice.
