Boudoir Photos with a Twist…

April 8th, 2010 @ 4:34 pm by Mrs. Buttons

Hive, its time to get a little… sexy…

I’ve noticed that it is rather commonplace for a bride to add a special portrait session in with their wedding photography. Enter… the boudoir session. Brides don some sexy outfits, have photographs taken, and present them to their groom as a wedding gift. Very cute (or should I say… scandalous…)!

I’ve been thinking about this myself, and if I would want to do something like this for Mr. Buttons. One day while browsing through my Google Reader, I came across a boudoir session. I shifted my laptop over to Mr. Buttons and asked him what he thought. He furrowed his brow a bit and then asked me, “what would I do with them???”

Fair enough, I guess. He does have a good point; it isn’t like he would be taking around the photos and showing them off to his friends (I hope…). But nevertheless, I still like the idea. However, since Mr. Buttons didn’t exactly sound all that thrilled about the traditional boudoir photos (I know… what is wrong with him???), I wanted to ponder an alternative that would perhaps give the same effect.

And then… as I was shopping for some new swimwear for the summer season, I had an epiphany.

Why hadn’t I thought of this sooner??? If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you might recall that Mr. Buttons and I first met each other at the beach. Well, what better location for a “boudoir” session? I mean, I already know that Mr. Buttons doesn’t mind seeing me in a bikini: he’s snuck a few photos here and there when we’ve been at the beach…

So… instead of donning some sexy lingerie, I’d wear a pretty little two piece number, and maybe take some pictures like this…

Following photos from Victoria’s Secret:

So, what do you think of a “nontraditional” boudoir session at the beach? Are you planning to/have you done a boudoir session to present to your SO? How did you decide what you’d wear?

That’s such a great idea!! FI had the EXACT same response when I asked his opinion, and for the cost of the session, I dont see the point either… but I LOVE the bathing suit idea!! I think it would be super easy to get them done (and I also have a REALLY hard time with the “sexy” face… I usually burst out laughing) but I think that can be part of the fun! After all, if that’s who you are, he will appreciate it all that much more!!

Don’t forget to check out SI’s yearly swimsuit issue for inspiration as well!
I think you can do a bunch of cute/sexy poses too! Splashing water, et al.
Beach balls for props, rent loungers & umbrellas! Cute!

I don’t think you need to try to be “sexy” — if your normal personality is cute and goofy, go with that! Frolic and jump around and laugh :) I’m betting Mr. B will find you being silly-in-the-sun just as sexy (if not even SEXIER) than the pout-y models!

Thats a cool idea - I’m doing a boudoir session and definitely have had my doubts, for the same reasons you suggested (I’m going ahead with it, though!) I don’t think I’d have the nerve to do a photo session on a beach if it wasn’t totally secluded, though!

omygosh i could NEVER do a boudoir session. I am repulsed by how I look partially nude, and would vomit at the sight of any picture of me in such a state. I’d never let the pics see the light of day, so I’d never even bring up the topic though I’m sure the Mr. would love it. You’re lucky that you’re skinny and have this option.

This is an AWESOME idea! I would never do boudoir shots (I’d be too embarrassed), but I could definitely muster the courage to do a beach shoot. You are very clever!

Great idea! I liked the idea of boudoir shots, but we both decided, well, what would he do with them? And your beach setting adds extra personalization.

I would love to do a boudoir session. I think it wold be a an amazing treat, and I almost emailed my photographer this week to set one up. My fiance, by contrast, thinks it’s a total waste. Like Mr. Buttons, he said he had no idea what he’d do with them. He then proceeded to say that if I wanted to do it, I should go for it, but that I should consider it something fun/nice to do for myself and not as a present for him. I think he’s right. I’m not sure what the hell I would do with sexy pictures of him!

that’s an awesome idea. i would be too shy to pose at the beach though. a boudoir session (indoors!) sounds much more possible, personally.

For you ladies who like the idea of doing an outdoor session but would want something more secluded, perhaps a pool at a hotel? I know a lot of people say they do their boudoir pics in a hotel room, if so, you could take advantage of the pool as well and if it’s during a weekday there probably won’t be any/many people around.
Just a thought!
