About Mrs. French Fries

Dress Success!

April 8th, 2010 @ 1:32 pm by Mrs. French Fries

You may recall that recently I was struggling with what dress to wear for our engagement pictures. The day that post went up, I ordered what I thought would be the perfect fun, flirty e-pics dress — a sure hit! I anxiously awaited its arrival at our humble abode. When it arrived, I raced home to try it on. I should have known when I opened the package and saw that it was from the store’s “petites” section that it had FAIL written all over it. If you know me, you know that my long torso and giraffe legs do not spell petite.

I reviewed the order form: the order I placed was from the regular section of the store, not the petites section. Weird, to say the least. Maybe they ran out of my size in “regular” stock? Undeterred, I tried the dress on. Let’s just say that the fact that the dress barely covered my booty was the least of my worries — it wasn’t flattering in the least. Hence, no pictures here.

Mr. French Fries came home from work and saw the package on the table. He asked what it was and I replied that it was a dress that “didn’t work out and had to be sent back.” This has been a common refrain of mine lately — I order everything online with the highest! of! hopes! and then when it comes, I find myself making yet another trip to my trusty UPS drop box. Mr. FF said right then and there, “That’s it. We’re going shopping this weekend and we’re going to find you a dress.” I love this man — a man who would voluntarily go shopping with me for my e-pics dress? Be still my heart. (Let’s not discuss that this was possibly self-preservation on his part… he was most likely sick of me lamenting that I couldn’t find anything!)

So, that weekend, we went e-pics dress hunting. And, I’m happy to report that I found a dress! It’s from one of my favorite stores, White House Black Market (and they’re not paying me to say that!). I tried on a bunch of dresses from there that day, but this one won out over all of the rest:

(Pic from my iPhone, which explains the cruddy-ness.)

I know it’s not super bright and bold, but I do love the print and I will be able to get “double use” out of it. I love it so much that I plan on wearing it for our rehearsal, too! Oh, and let’s not forget the most important part: it fits! So, I promptly purchased it and will be pairing it with this statement necklace, also from WHBM:

and these shoes, which I found on Endless.com (on sale!):

and, depending on if the weather is chilly, a black shrug sweater that I already own. Success!

Do you have success shopping online, or do you sometimes have “issues” (understatement of the century!) like I do?

I tend to only buy clothes online if I’ve bought other clothes from the same place/same brand and had luck with the fit. Even then, it usually doesn’t work so well for me. But I keep trucking!

The dress you picked is ADORABLE! Can’t wait to see your e-pics!

That is going to look so great and classic, something that will definately look fresh in 20 yrs looking back at the pictures.

Your dress is SO cute!

I had to give up online dress shopping after I had NUMEROUS dress issues. Now I finally have a dress for (almost) everything and I am SO relieved.

Cute! I hate when you order something online and it looks totally different. And I do it all the time too. I’ll never learn. My e-pics are this saturday and I have no idea what to wear.lol.

I love the look! Great dress and you can definitely get multiple wears out of it.

Oh, me and online shopping. I ordered (literally) about 30 pairs of shoes and returned 29 of them. The UPS guy greets me now with “Oh, those shoes didn’t work out either huh?” Great.

Oh I LOVE that dress! As much as I love online shopping, sometimes it really does just work out better to go to the actual store.

I have lots of “issues”. I have long legs, “monkey” arms and wide-ish shoulders. So, if something fits in the shoulders, its too wide in the waist. If something fits around the waist, likely it’s too short through the inseam. If it meets all my criteria and fits like a dream, it costs $300.
