Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

Yep, like so many bees before me, we’re doing out of town boxes, to be handed out when our guests check into the hotel. Our hotel only charges if we want the boxes put in the rooms, so we’re perfectly fine with them being handed out at the front desk for free!

I found some inexpensive 9″ x 9″ x 6″ kraft gable boxes from U.S. Box, but unfortunately they only came in 50 packs, so I have some left over. I’m estimating we’ll need to give out about 24 OOT boxes (one per room), and so I made 5 extra, just in case.

And how will I decorate the boxes, you ask? With layered ribbon and paper, of course!

I didn’t do that much to decorate these, because, who am I kidding, nobody is going to save the boxes! So I just cut and ironed two layers of ribbon, and hot glued them around the boxes.

Then I made quick signs for the boxes, and glued them on, along with some punched flower embellishments.

Quick, cute, done.

Well, almost done! I still have to make a packet of information for everyone, which will include the schedule of events, maps, things to do in the area, and contact info for the wedding party. But I can’t make the packet until we nail down our rehearsal time, which we can’t do until one month prior to our wedding. As much as I’d like to have this done in advance, it’s going to have to be a somewhat last minute project.

And a month before the wedding we’ll also have to stuff these boxes with some snacks, which we’re planning to raid Costco for. I’m thinking each box will get 2 water bottles, some chips, beef jerky, gum, travel size Advil, and whatever else strikes our fancy on our Costco run.

Will you be doing OOT boxes for your guests? What ideas to you have for snacks to go in the boxes?

Would you be interested in selling your left-over gable boxes?

Yum, those sound like yummy and pretty OOT boxes! I was so excited to do these for our OOT guests, but it turns out almost everyone is bunking with friends and family.

We put water, apple chips, chocolates, and other snacks in ours. The apple chips were a big hit. Be careful with your hotel though, they might say they are going to hand them out when the guests check-in but they probably won’t be very good at doing it. At my hotels about half of the guests didn’t get their OOT bags. The hotel workers just had them sitting on the floor behind the desk and they weren’t even handing them out. Mad me very irritated that my pretty bags were on a dirty floor and weren’t being distributed to the guests.

Sooo cute! You did an awesome job with the boxes! Two of my favorite things that I found at BJ’s to put in ours were:

Cereal Bars (In case they end up not going anywhere for breakfast)

Lindt Truffles - Cause everyone needs a little something sweet! They had a big bag so a put a few in everyone’s gift bag.

Packs of Peanuts - Nice little source of protein

How awesome. I like how you say, “Quick”. Doesn’t seem like it would be quick at all.

@ Miss Hamster - I did bags for our guests who were staying with family and handed those out at the rehearsal dinner. I figured that if they came all that way, they could have a cute bag too! :-)

I’m not engaged. However if and when the big day comes I think I would do oot boxes… if we have many guests from oot. I have a very small family and most of my friends live nearby.. but if the bfs out of town relatives come then I would like to have something special since they made the trip to share in our special day.

OH man, I’m so glad you posted this, I was seriously freaking out about my OOT bags not being done but if the planner queen isn’t doing them until a month before, then I guess I’m alright in waiting too! Phew…

Thanks for mentioning where you found them - I wanted gable boxes but only need 45 and the other place I found only sells in 100 packs, so this it perfect! Yay!

I don’t know exactly WHO will be coming in from out of town jsut yet - but these boxes are a very good value. I won’t need this many either - perhaps someone would like to buy my extra when the time comes!

Love these! We had planned to do OOT bags, but I LOVE the box idea. We talked about it tonight and decided to go for the boxes too! We’ll do the white boxes, but I love these! Thanks for posting!

This seems silly but how did you secure the punched out flowers? I have a snowflake punch but i’m not sure how to secure them to anything. I’m worried that a glue stick will be too messy??

We’re skipping OOT bags because we never really considered them.
