About Mrs. Hot Dog

Shopping, Jr. Bridesmaid Style

April 8th, 2010 @ 1:53 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

This past weekend I was up in the Casper/Glenrock area and decided to take the opportunity to help the Hot Dog Step(sister)s find their junior BM dresses! We decided to take the easy route and hit the mall.

Going in, I wanted to make sure that my Steps picked a dress that they both loved and would feel good in. I didn’t care if it was a print or solid, strapless or halter, long or short. As long as it went well with the color(ish) palette, it was an option!

Up first, JC Penney.

Meet LitteStep.

This was one of my faves. It’s actually a dark brown, not black. But the girls weren’t crazy about the top. It had some weird detailing that these pics don’t show. NEXT!

This one had the awesome halter that they both loved, but it had a little too much of a “beachy” feel to it. Supa’ cute, but not quite rustic, country chic.

I loved the green/yellow/brown in this dress, but none of us were crazy about the neckline.

All three of us LOVED this dress. Buuut the “brown” was really too dark for what I wanted…

We stopped for sustenance in the form of Hot Dog on a Stick (bwahahah. That is SICK, I tell you!) and some Power Smoothies before moving on to the next store. When we were sufficiently stuffed, it was on to Macy’s, Dillard’s, and Sears. We didn’t find anything even photo-worthy. I was actually disappointed because I thought Macy’s or Dillard’s would be sure bets. All they ended up having was very matronly dresses OR prom dresses. FAIL.

So we wandered over to AE. I really didn’t expect to find anything here, but immediately we found a couple options.

I really did NOT like this one on the hanger. As soon as they put it on, though, my opinion changed. My photog skills basically suck, so you can’t see it, but these have a very dainty floral pattern in shades of pink, green and brown. Plus, they loved it. :)

They tried on this next. I love the brown braided belt and the cute ruffles. Alas, it was not very flattering and was 86ed.

By the time they’d tried this dress on, we were pretty shopped-out. It was time for a decision! After looking through the pics (and a vanilla chai latte each), we decided on the dainty floral AE dress!

I’m pretty excited to see how they accessorize, since I gave them the freedom to choose their own shoes and jewelry. I really want their personality to shine! :)

Overall, our shopping day was a WIN, though maybe not on the diet-side of things ;)

Are you having junior bridesmaids? Or how are you including your step-siblings, if you have any?

Thanks for sharing! You mentioned stores I wouldn’t have thought of looking in. I will be dressing a 21 year old and a 52 year old. We may just go with the same color for both, since I think their takes on style will be very different and one is in Toronto and the other is in southern Oregon.

So cute! I have a little sister who will be 9 and a jbm. I pretty much left it to her to decide if she wanted to wear the same as the big girls or something she picked out. She has yet to decide.

Despite being 9, we found most of the adult smalls and extra smalls can be altered to fit, should she decide to wear the same thing as the big girls. We, too, planned to hit the mall for our bridesmaids.

Did you give them a special role to do, like hold the rings or anything? I put my sister in charge of “helping the flower girl.”

Thanks for the post, I have a hard time finding too many brides with jbms!!

I think the floral dresses were a great choice! They definitely fit your rustic chic feel and the girls can wear them over and over again.

I am having a junior bridesmaid, my cousin who will be 9 at the wedding. I was junior bridesmaid at her mother’s wedding 10 years ago. I will be putting her in a dress that is more modest and young than the bridesmaids, but more grown up than the flowergirls.
