Mrs. Dolphin's Picture
Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer Engagement Date: February 14, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
About Mrs. Dolphin

While shopping for chapel length veils to go with my beautiful garden romance dress, I came across two (at Solutions Bridal… man I need to get out more!) and absolutely loved them both. What I didn’t love about them? The PRICE! Paying for a veil that is almost as much as my dress is certainly not in this budget bride’s vocabulary. Regardless, here they are:

The Wind Beneath My Veil Part Two: The Indecision : wedding gainesville veil Miss Ga Miss Dolpin in a Beautiful Lace Edged Veil

Sooo romantic and beautiful… but at a hefty price tag, they’re totally something I cannot afford! It was either the veil or finish grad school… and I choose grad school. :)
Lori London Lace Veil, $630

The Wind Beneath My Veil Part Two: The Indecision : wedding gainesville veil Miss Ga01 Miss Dolpin in Simply Lori London Veil

Simple and chic. Love it! And with the price more reasonable (okay sort of reasonable), a good choice for this bride. What you can’t see is the beautifully sewn edge of the veil. Most veils have a thick ribbon or cord but the edge of this veil is so incredibly delicate and sweet.
Lori London Veil, $260

So… here I am. Caught between two beautiful veils. One I can’t afford, but love (and my parents love, too!), and one that is more affordable but is lacking something in my mind.

I tend to over-analyze everything. I hardly make any decision rashly. Just ask Mr. Dolphin. He knows how I think about something for several months before I get up the nerve to purchase it. Through my analysis of these two veils I’ve discovered that what I really want is a hybrid between the two. If these two veils got together and had babies, I would want their babies. Too weird of an analogy? Bear with me…

A few months ago I met with a designer here in Gainesville who would (hopefully) make the perfect veil to go with my dress… for a perfect price. Stay tuned!

Veils are so easy to make…..and, although alencon lace can be pricey, you can still have the same veil for MUCH less!

Both gorgeous veils. Love very sheer, 1 tier chapel lengths. The second one is exactly what I’m going for! My mom and I are going to make mine.

I was going to say, you have to be able to find an affordable version of the non-affordable one. Grad school is too important not to finish over a veil. Can’t wait to see how it turned out. :)

I scoured NYC for a the perfect veil for me. I fell in love with a veil but it was $460! I just placed a deposit for one that is exactly what I want for $225! My advice is keep looking for the one that is in the right price range and the one that you are dreaming for. It’s out there and if not, someone can make it AND at a reasonable price. Good luck!

Beautiful veils but not beautiful prices! You can find one like the first first one priced at about the same price as the second - see:

My veil looked very similar to the first one that you tried on. It had the alencon lace details. I bought mine from ebay for $130ish - the same vendor that Mrs. Lab got her dress. I looooved my veil/dress/bolero that I bought from them. (Bridal_dress_4_u on ebay)

i would say DIY or look around online. i got my dress custom-made (it was cheap) and the dressmaker threw in a free veil of my choice. “Well it’s just a piece of tulle!” he said to me when I thanked him. Reality check right there!

I can’t wait to see it! I love both of the ones you posted. I still can’t get over how expensive veils are, though! It’s ridiculous!

I think you should DIY the first veil! Mrs. DG helped Mrs. Sunbeam DIY one, so you should read the post…you’ll save a ton of $$ and it will look just like you want! http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/10/21/dg-veil-tutorial/

You should try Etsy — there are tons of mantilla veils (like the first one you posted), for way cheaper than that!
