About Mrs. Hamster

Are you tired of my shoe saga yet? Yeah, I am too. This is the end, I promise.

As a reminder, I first fell for the wrong type of shoe and got over that by traipsing around with some other prospects. Then, I just fell. So now, I’m left looking for a shoe that doesn’t clash, makes me look like the woman I am, and reduces the fall-on-your-face hazard.

After resigning myself to the fact that I’d likely be a sensible-shoe bride for the ceremony, I decided to check out these babies:

This Will Disappoint Some of You. : wedding nyc shoes D27224 A

Cole Haan Ceci Air Rose Sling

They were cute enough. I guess.

And, these shoes have the Nike Air technology, which is supposed to be awesome. But I felt like I was trying too hard to give these shoes a fair chance - kinda like when you’re in high school and your mom is afraid you’ll never have a boyfriend so she sets you up with her friend’s son, with the justification of, “Hey look, he’s in marching band just like you are!” and you just want to disappear into the floor but you know he’s dreading it as much as you are, so you feel bad and you agree to meet him?

No? Well, I think you get what I mean.

Anyway, my potential meeting with Ceci was cut short when I discovered that the Cole Haan store I visited was the one branch in all of NYC that didn’t carry their bridal collection (it’s the Flatiron store, for you NYC brides). I took it as a sign that it wasn’t meant to be and moved on.

Verdict: Stood up by shoes.

Then I looked at these:

This Will Disappoint Some of You. : wedding nyc shoes 966286 966286-

Kate Spade Gracious 2

Two little problems - first, Zappos didn’t have my size. I ordered a half size smaller, and while I can jam my tootsies into these shoes, they’re a little squished. Second problem - the heel, at 4 inches isn’t exactly the comfort I was looking for. And they are a little wobbly. (Okay, I guess that’s 3 little problems.) Nonetheless, they are still lower and sturdier than my previous prospects. I have my name on 3 websites for notifications when my size is available.

Verdict: Good for a last resort.

Then I wore my red shoes to my bridal shower, and several of you left comments of approval. However, after 4 hours in those shoes left me hobbling around, I just knew I couldn’t wear them for 12+ hours on the wedding day. Sorry!

This Will Disappoint Some of You. : wedding nyc shoes Christi christi

Verdict: Farewell

Then, I was up in midtown because, well, I like it there, and I decided to pop into the Cole Haan store there. So in the spirit of beating my weak analogy to death - you know when you reluctantly meet up with the marching band guy that your mom sets you up with in high school, and you’re dreading it and hoping that he at least plays a cool instrument like the saxophone and not a dorky one like the clarinet (which you *rock* at but you don’t think it’s cool for boys) and then you meet him and the band geek is actually not that bad? Well, meet my geeky shoes:

This Will Disappoint Some of You. : wedding nyc shoes 10757 912785 P 10757-912785-p

Cole Haan Ceci Air Rose Sandal

So. They don’t knock my socks off. They’re not my first choice in terms of aesthetics. But they are pretty enough and they are soooooooo comfortable. And after my red-shoe trial, I am all about that. So I’ll let these shoes take me to the wedding. And if my red shoes make a little cameo appearance in a picture or two, you won’t tell right? It will be our little secret.

Verdict: WIN!

Were you a band geek too? (This question is lame. Pengy, you can change it if you want. LOL)

~~~
Editor’s note: OhEmGee, Mrs. Penguin also played the clarinet in band in high school.
Not a band geek, but a choir nerd. I was all over that stuff before Glee made it cool!
I played the clarinet in the band in high school too!
Also, I am all about shoe comfort. I have a thing for sexy shoes. Of note, these two things don’t often go together. I spend so much time lusting after sexy shoes online, and then end up in flip flops because I can’t stand having feet that hurt! I might just have to check out those Cole Haans - they are pretty cute, especially if they are comfy! I give them 2 thumbs up.
Total band geek :) Flute and piccolo at school, and at camp in the summers, and in the local youth symphony and private lessons and a community band… oh, and your shoes are cute even if they’re more traditional and practical that your ideal, they should still serve you well.
you crack me up. And my mom totally tried to set me up with a band geek and I was SUCH a brat about it. Thank goodness I’ve matured. :)
Ah, they are still fabulous shoes. I might regret my 3.5-inch-heel decision after a round of standing photos, but we’ll see :)
I’m a glorified band geek! Played the clarinet through college. :)
mr. sew was an un-cool clarinet, but that’s okay with me ;)
and i too, like all the shoes you posted. and comfort is important, for sure!
Total band geeks and proud of it. We were in college band together (flute and quads) but we didn’t know each other because the band was so big. We met through mutual friends at a party four years later.
Hamster, there is no shame in accepting the fate of a comfortable shoe. No one will notice anyway (sorry, and I know I’ll still go on with my shoe search) and you’ll be much happier the day after your wedding :D
I don’t normally wear high heals, just once an a while. And for my wedding I am. I may hate myself, but whatever. I will just take them off and go nekkid feet.
Its ok to trip over my dress, right? haha.
Also. My fiance is only about 5 inches taller than me, so we will be close in height.
me being 5′8 is why I didn’t wear heals often. I don’t like being taller than EVERYONE…
I played the flute. My parents met in the bandroom, and my dad’s first question about guys I dated was always “Was he in band?” Amazingly, gave a non-band geek permission to marry me.
Definitely a band geek. I rocked the bass clarinet, but in the fear of lugging it around on the football field, I was in color guard for marching band. All through college too.
Let the geekiness prevail! lol
Definitely a band geek … I wore a pair of low heeled silver slides. For a very important day I wanted something comfortable and cute that I could dance all night in!
I played clarinet, but didn’t continue in high school. I love those shoes! If I’d found them, I would have totally worn them at my wedding!
I was a cheerleader - it’s my fiance that was in band. Everyone jokes that’s why we didn’t meet until after attending the same high school ;) At least he played a “cool” sax, and I still love listening to him play!
i’m all about comfort over fashion but do try to find a comfy fashionable shoe whenever possible.
Just checked the price. Ouch! Ok, I’m again happy with my less-stylin’, less-pretty, probably more nerdy $50 shoes from Dillards.
Still, those shoes are wonderful. *sigh* I’m envious.
