About Mrs. Dolphin

Aloha Weddingbee readers! {Hmm… that has a nice ring to it.} :)

You may want to sit down for this… it is probably going to be one of my longest posts ever. When it comes to honeymoons, I have a lot to say on the subject.

Originally, Mr. Dolphin and I had grand ideas of honeymooning in Europe. You know… the whole Paris (city of love), Rome, England shebang. That idea ended rather quickly when we realized:

  1. We would be staying in rather un-luxurious accommodations, since European suites were expensive and small (umm hello… shouldn’t we be pampered on our honeymoon?)
  2. Taking about a million trains, planes and automobiles everywhere (no thank you)
  3. The whole Euro and not speaking the language thing
  4. We couldn’t possibly afford it (our 10 day adventure was turning into an $8k nightmare)

So, off to Plan B (not that type of Plan B, ladies): HAWAII

Immediately we knew we wanted to honeymoon on the island of Maui. My parents had just been there and had a fabulous time (plus they had some excellent tips for us). I quickly got on the internet looking for condos for us to rent for our 10 day love-vacation. We knew condos would be the right choice because:

  1. They have a kitchen, so I can make Mr. Dolphin breakfast in the morning and sandwiches for lunch (so we can save money on eating out)
  2. Ocean view for ½ the price of most resorts in Maui

Yes, I like to make lists. Have you noticed?

Most of the condos were old and went with the whole wicker-themed interiors, which is not really our style. I managed to find one condo available over at the Kihei Surfside Resort and booked it immediately. Check out our sweet Hawaiian love nest:

Awesome bamboo kitchen with granite countertops

A Honeymoon to Remember: Maui Here We Come! : wedding gainesville honeymoon 22 2

Spacious living room with flat panel TV (for Mr. Dolphin… because I know he can’t go without his History and Discovery Channel)

A Honeymoon to Remember: Maui Here We Come! : wedding gainesville honeymoon 32 3

Oh… and the view from our room… breathtaking! I can’t wait to relax on our porch and look out at this beautiful view with Mr. Dolphin

We booked our Honeymoon digs for $120 a night plus Hawaiian tax (agh… 12%). I have to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to my future mother-in-law and her husband for taking care of our flight for us. Our 1st wedding gift! Hooray! :)

… And might I add, probably the best wedding gift ever. Our other guests have a lot to live up to (just kidding!).

Speaking of gifts, Mr. Dolphin and I have created a Honeymoon Registry over at HoneymoonWishes:

A Honeymoon to Remember: Maui Here We Come! : wedding gainesville honeymoon 42 4

Mr. Dolphin and Miss Dolphin’s Honeymoon Registry
Yes I should probably blur our names out of this picture… but with any luck in Google, it would have been easy for y’all to find us… and I’m too lazy at the moment to ’go all Photoshop’ on this image. Just pretend you didn’t see our names.

When Mr. Dolphin and I moved in together we had 2 of everything because we each had our own apartment. Granted, some of our items could use an upgrade (plastic serving spoons, ripped towels, cat-induced holes in sheets/duvets, plates we both like, etc). But we felt that an experience was worth more to us then material objects. It was incredibly easy to set up and you can even create a wedding website through it too (although we already have an excellent wedding website Mr. Dolphin made us, what a lover face ♥).

I’m incredibly excited for our honeymoon. There are so many incredible things to experience in Maui and I can’t wait to experience them with Mr. Dolphin as his Mrs.

Where are you planning to honeymoon? Are you planning on going non-traditional with a honeymoon registry?

Awesome!! I’ve been to Hawaii 3x and each time I had to drag myself back on the plane home. It’s so beautiful! We relied solely on the “Revealed” books (Maui Revealed, Big Island Revealed, etc.). You guys will have an amazing time!

We had the exact same course of honeymoon planning events! Although I didn’t know about the condo’s in HI, so again, the price kicked it out for us.

We aren’t doing a honeymoon registry, but only b/c I know for sure no one will buy it for us. Our families are super traditional and like to buy actual gifts and our friends aren’t very internet saavy, they all give cash. I wish we could do it though!

Oh we just loved Maui. Love, love, love. Definitely do the bike down the Haleakala Crater (also bring some warm clothing, it was COLD up there before sunrise.)

:)

Hawaii is next our our vacation list! We’re honeymooning in Antigua at the Sandals Resort because we don’t want to have to think about ANYTHING! But as soon as we get up the guts to plan it all out and explore on our own, we’re headed to Hawaii! Enjoy!

Nice find on the condo!

We created a honeymoon registry as well, at honeyfund.com. I love the idea of that, since so many people have everything they need in their home these days. (Of course, the future Mr. and I also did a traditional registry at Target, for our more traditional guests who want to buy us something to wrap.)

You will love Maui!!! That’s where we got engaged and that’s where we are getting married this July. We go a lot so PM if you want any suggestions of where to go, eat, etc. You’ll really like Kihei too but I’m bias because that’s where our condo is. Yay! I love hearing that people are going to Maui, it’s my fav place :)

You MUST, MUST, MUST eat breakfast at Kihei Cafe…it’s a little hole in the wall that is easy to miss so you have to keep your eye out for it (it’s on the main drag in Kihei and a quick walk from your condo). Seriously though…AMAZING breakfast. If you go towards Lahaina for breakfast make the trek up to The Gazebo in Napili Bay…Jack Johnson wrote “Banana Pancakes” based on his experience there. :)

You’ll love Maui! We got engaged there and I think the whole island is magical. The gazebo for breakfast really is amazing, definitely find julias banana bread it is a small lime green shack on the road to Hana - the fresh banana bread, coconut candy and taro chips are a delicious real local snack. Great special night out dinner spots worth going to are Pacifico in Lahaina and mamas fish house inn. Worth the trip and the price. Enjoy the beautiful island and spirit of aloha!
