About Mrs. Octopus

Delicious, Delicious Paper

April 9th, 2010 @ 10:41 am by Mrs. Octopus

Now that we’ve got a lot of the “big” planning stuff out of the way, I feel like I can get started on some of the fun, semi-ridiculous little details that no one really thinks about before wedding planning but suddenly become objects of mild-to-moderate obsession once the process gets underway. Lately, for me, this has been the stationery. I know that it’s really not such a big deal—people are going to come whether I invite them with a letterpressed, pocketfold suite or something I slap together in Notepad and jazz up with a few choice elements from the Wingdings font, am I right? But come on. Invitations can be sooooo delightful!

Here are some pretty, pretty STDs/invites that have sparked my fancy lately!

From Printable Press:

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Invite01

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Regency

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Invite02

From Ruby & Willow:

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Invite03

From Etsy seller jamiekonet (via Ms. Stripes!):

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Invite04

From RIFLE Designs:

Delicious, Delicious Paper : wedding invitations pittsburgh stationery Invite05

So, mostly, I think I’m really into unusual fonts that make a statement, especially when they’re laid out in an interesting way. I also like a good helping of images that don’t involve flowers or trees. The actual process of getting the STDs/invites underway is a whole other story, but for now, at least, I’ve got a reference point for the style I really like.

How about you? Have you found a way to describe the look you’re going for in the little details?

I love these! I wish I could have found inspiration like this when I was starting mine! I couldn’t find anything but swirls on a page - these are great!
My invites are now about 90% done.. if they weren’t I might think about starting over!

My invitations arrived at my door step 2 days ago. They’re uberly simple, but I love em! I would have died for letterpress, but the cost was something not worth inflating the budget for.

:) FYI, I found aprintablepress very disappointing.

Ooh, I love all your inspiration pics! For our invites, I was trying to go with “classic elegance” - but not sure if they actually came out that way :P

Love love love! The first one was my top choice. You should contact JessLehry.com. She did mine and she’s fantastic! Definitely worked off the inspiration photos I gave her.

I love, love, love those last ones from RIFLE, and just poured over her website. I can’t begin to imagine how much they’d be though!

I had an idea in mind when I started but no real intense examples. I love the ones you posted above and had I not already started mine, I would have used those as inspiration. =) Ours have such amazing paper that it just calls for a simple design so that’s what I’m doing. Plus if I try to rework other aspects into the design, I’ll go crazy and end up dragging future hubby along for the ride. ;)

@Arachna: Ooh, good to know. I didn’t actually end up using them–I didn’t think they were really all that budget-friendly.
@hunnybunny1017: Aren’t they so beautiful? I didn’t even bother asking for a price quote though, haha.
@Miss Parfait: Thanks!

While all of these are beautiful, I simply cannot say enough good things about Printable Press. Besides being an*awesome* designer, Kimi is exactly the kind of person you want to be working with/for you. And, they’re totally budget-friendly. I can’t praise them enough!

ooh! I heart paper too!!! I got my invites from royalsteamline.com. She’s Royal Steamline on Etsy, too. I absolutely LOVED working with her - they were a wee bit pricey, but not compared to some of the other choices we’d found in some of the local paper shops. She was FANTASTIC to work with, and my invitation was actually a tweak on one of her designs - she added some art deco flair to it to sort of go a little bit easier with our aesthetic. You should check them out!
