Mrs. Octopus's Picture
Mrs. Octopus, Boston, MA/Pittsburgh, PA Age and Occupation: 25, Grad Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Graphics Operator for TV News Engagement Date: May 6th, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heinz Chapel Ceremony, Museum Reception About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
About Mrs. Octopus

Here’s a fact I haven’t shared yet: Mr. Octopus and I are dog owners. And, if I can be totally objective for a minute, the dog we own is the sweetest, cuddliest, funniest, most precious, most perfect dog that exists in the universe.

Hive, meet Daffodil:

Making herself at home on the throw pillows, no big deal.

Feeling preeeeetty hesitant about my strapping her into the Snuggie purchased for her by her loving grandmother, Mom Octopus.

She is a French bulldog, and Mr. O and I basically think she’s the most awesome living creature on Earth. I would love to figure out some way to include her in our wedding! Hopefully, it would be something fairly subtle, because I don’t want to seem like a completely cuckoo bananas dog lady on my wedding day, but it would be nice to have some kind of reference to our little friend.

Mr. Octopus really, really, really wants her to act as the flower girl. While she would look extremely adorable trotting up the aisle in a get-up like this:

And while she has a proven ability to rock a killer costume:

Bridesmaid/Cousin Katie, a fellow Boston resident, gifted Daffodil this sweet outfit when we decided to move there.

Heinz Chapel does not allow dogs. Boooo.

I’ve also seen people featuring their pets via personalized table numbers. This is a really fun idea, and while I haven’t totally ruled it out, I also have a strong suspicion that those kinds of cute but not-strictly-necessary projects may be at risk of falling by the wayside as the wedding gets closer.

So what is everyone else doing? Do you have ideas to share on cute-and-low-effort ways to feature your pets in your wedding?

OMG Daffodil is adorable!! I love Frenchies! We’re not allowed to have pets where we live so obviously we can’t incorporate critters into our day, but maybe you could do some cute mini-buttons with her photo as favors?

I am crazy pet lover/dog guardian. :) We are featuring our 2 pooches on table numbers. I decided to do a 5×7 collage picture just by using Walgreens.com. There is room on the collage for text, so that is where the number is going to go.

Daffodil is too cute! We’ve been emailing cute puppy pictures at work all day… cuz it’s friday. I don’t have a pet though.. so I’m afraid I have no good ideas…

We used a picture of my dog on our STDs– he has a sign around his neck that says “Save the Date” and is looking his cutest. It may have bordered on crazy dog lady but everyone who mentioned it said they really liked it (the people who think I’m crazy just aren’t saying anything I guess).

I think the table numbers are a great idea! You shouldn’t have to make too many of them (not like the invitations!) and they can be pretty easy. For mine, I just printed the name (we did table names rather than numbers) on 3.5″x5″ cardstock, glued on an engagement photo, and stuck it in a frame. You could do the same thing with pictures of adorable little Daffodil.

You could have a cute picture on the table (like number 2) as people took their favors before they left with a saying like “Thanks for coming to my mom and Dad’s wedding!”
(reading post for errors)
O.k. that is a dumb idea, but I will post it anyways so you can laugh at my expense. My ideas are hit or miss

Awwww, your baby is sooooooooo cute! I’m so sad to be leaving my 2 behind for 2 whole weeks :( I am a crazy dog lady and have thrown around the idea of putting their little faces in a locket and sticking it in my bouquet so I won’t miss them so much at the wedding!

Our yorkie will be the ring bearer! We’re pretty lucky because the hotel is allowing us to bring him in for the ceremony but someone has to take him home before the reception starts! If your reception is nearby, see if the venue will allow your little Daffodil to be there for the ceremony and then someone can take her home after. It’s a bit of inconvenience but it will be worth it! Good luck!

We also used our dogs in our save the date cards as cartoon drawings.

Why not have a “family portrait” done with her in it and put the picture out on the guestbook table or somewhere else prominent? Then people can see her as a part of your family without actually seeing her. (And perhaps this isn’t “crazy dog lady”?)

One of my friends had their dog on their wedding webpage, introducing their marriage. That was pretty cute, too.

@Miss Navy Blue: OMG, that might be the perfect solution! I was planning on making some of those funny buttons you see floating around the Internet already!
@Miss Nachos: I would be incredibly sad too! I totally am a crazy dog lady too, I just don’t want it to be THAT obvious at the wedding, haha.
@CorgiTales: You know how dog people make up a million different nicknames for their dogs? Many of hers involve her belly.
@Mrs. French Bulldog: You should get one!!! It would be so appropriate and they can be pen pals!!!!

OK, first of all that dog is ADORABLE, and the CUTEST NAME EVER! I may steal it, just an fyi. Our venue also bans dogs (among other things- they are real buzzkills). Also our dog is WAY too crazy to participate. I desperately hoped she’d be trained well enough by the wedding so that i could at least take pictures with her, but alas she is not, so she will be dropped off at the boarding kennel on the day of our rehearsal (through the honeymoon- she’s going to have a wonderful vacation herself w/ doggie day care all day everyday). We’re going to try and take pictures of her with paper numbers to use as our table numbers. As my fiance says “pictures of her destroying numbers in various ways” ;-)
