I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
About Ms. Stripes

Come Together…

April 12th, 2010 @ 6:53 pm by Ms. Stripes

You may have noticed that I’ve been totally mum when it comes to music, or maybe you remember that I mentioned that the big M is F Stripes’ domain.

Well, everyone, I have a confession to make. I’m kind of a control freak. And so even though music is totally F Stripes’ world (she worked at music mecca Amoeba in her pre-chef days) I have more opinions than a Crayola box has crayons. Sigh. See, I never know the names of artists (even if I LOVE their songs) so I kinda figured that I wouldn’t have (much of) an opinion about our music. Logical yes? Um, not really.

Since we LOVE a good dance party, F Stripes decided to start with our first dance song. She hit the computer, made lists and threw out song titles. There was a lot of head scratching (on my part) and a lot of Googling (on her part) and a lot of fantastic, beautiful, dare-I-say wedding classics suggested that left me feeling, well, unimpressed. My fantastic and inexcusable inability to remember artists names aside, I just can’t help myself—I want something uber personal, ya know? I want our song. If only we had a song…

Then yesterday we attended a certain someone’s absolutely beautiful, hands-down amazing wedding, and as we watched their beautiful first dance, and drank, and gushed about how much we were looking forward to our wedding, it hit us—we DO have a song!

Our song has been my ringtone on F Stripes phone for forever (forever, ever?) and I love it. And she loves it. And it’s just so us. And it has the cutest video ever:

Did you obsess over your first dance song or was it easy-peasy obvious? And I’m curious: anyone nixing the first dance entirely? If so, are you doing something else instead?

I love that song. I used to listen to it all the time in college. Good choice!

I’m the same way. I never know the names of songs. Great song choice!

This is definitely one of my favorite songs, and has been in my top 10 for first dance songs. Mr. Doxie isn’t as sold, though. We haven’t made a decision yet… our taste in music is so different!

I LOVE that song :) Our song kinda hit us in a similar way, we were looking around and then one day realize we had one all along. It was almost too easy.

LOL, I can totally relate. I tried to give up control and let the FI plan a few items on his own. Music is one of them, and although he is much more of a music fanatic than I, I still have trouble letting go. I keep on telling myself it’s good wifie life practice.

Love that song!

Our song became “our song” when my fiance played it right before he proposed :) And it will be our first dance, easy choice! Before he proposed we’d listened to it a few times (he’d put it on a mix CD) and I liked it…I had no idea he was planning all along to use it when he asked me to marry him!

Awww, great song. *Sniff*

And I totally empathize with the love-the-song-have-no-clue-about-the-artist syndrome… I drive Mr. Snow nuts with my “you know that song with the singers and the music…I like that one.”

Mr. Snow and I still haven’t decided on a freakin’ first dance song. We might actually be nixing the first dance b/c every song that’s “ours” makes me bawl like a baby… and neither of us can dance.

@Miss Scissors: Yikes! Me too! hmm… maybe I should have considered that?!@Miss Snow: I think bawling like a baby and inability to dance are two of the hallmarks of an AMAZING wedding. I’m just sayin’…

No Way! That song is very possibly making an appearance in a very important part of our wedding too. Stripes, me and you, we’re like wedding planning b-f-f’s.

i had forgotten about that song - it’s so sweet, and the video is even sweeter.
i’m the “music person” of us, but i always feel like a jerk making decisions by myself - so i was totally giddy that my girlfriend was almost as excited as i was when i played her the song i wanted to use (”you’re the one” by tracy chapman *swoon*)

We haven’t picked “our” song yet and our ears are plastered to the radio in hopes of something that screams “THIS IS OUR SONG!!!”
