Mrs. Labrador's Picture
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/Savannah Age and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports Reporter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT Engagement Date: December 31, 2008 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
About Mrs. Labrador

After the tea party, all the girls ran back to my SIL’s house to sort through the mess of wedding supplies. I still had DIY projects that needed to be finished, so we split the group up to make the most of our time before the rehearsal later that night.

Half of the girls ran last-minute errands (store runs, dropping off OOT bags, etc.) while the other half transported as many things as they could to our reception site. I really (and I mean REALLY) lucked out because our wedding was the only one that weekend at Savannah Station, so the site coordinator let us go ahead and set up and assemble whatever we could. I left photos of what I wanted each table to look like for the coordinator and made a separate storage pile of all the ceremony decor for easy access the following morning.

When we finally finished, it was nearly time for the rehearsal! First, we had to check into our fabulous hotel to get ready for the rehearsal.

But, we hit a snag.

Because my MIL reserved the room and only MOH Amanda and BM Brittany and I were there for the check in, they wouldn’t let us in! Time was dwindling and I knew people would be arriving at the rehearsal site any moment. Still in work clothes, we’d already valet parked our cars and had a cart full of suitcases and wedding stuff. We needed IN.

After several frantic calls back and forth to MIL and the hotel manager and my credit card as a backup, they finally felt bad enough and let us in. It probably didn’t hurt that I had the bridal meltdown face going full force.

We barely had time to enjoy the gorgeousness of the room before dashing right back out to get to the square. Because we caused so much ruckus trying to get IN, the front desk remembered us as we were headed OUT. They even made a point of saying they’d never seen three women get ready so quickly! They offered us a ride in the hotel car and a couple minutes later we arrived at Whitfield Square.

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133678 It was the first time I’d seen Mr. Lab since leaving for Savannah, so I caught up with him and introduced him to our awesome coordinator.

And then we got down to business.

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7134080 We decided to line up in position first and then work backwards through the ceremony. It made things go MUCH smoother.

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133681 I included this one just because I miss my long hair.

And it’s pretty much inevitable that every rehearsal, no matter how structured, slowly begins to fall into chaos. Proof:

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133535 But random side conversations weren’t the only thing. Apparently, I should have put this sign up:

Why? Annoying vendors, that’s why! 24 hours out from the wedding, my bridesmaids and I instituted a “no phone zone” for the bride. But that didn’t matter to two vendors in particular (will be named soon!) who continued to harass my BMs.

As we lined up to go through the entire ceremony, I noticed poor BM Brittany still on the phone with one VERY rude vendor. Said vendor had already been told we were in the middle of our rehearsal and it could wait 30 minutes. That was not good enough.

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal Britpho I knew this vendor kept her on the phone a lot, but it wasn’t until I went through these photos that I realized exactly how long she had to deal with bad customer service.

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133797 Practice makes perfect!

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133911 I love how I’m looking at Mr. Lab in this one. Kinda like, “you’re finally going to be MINE for good!”

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 713379701 Debauchery continues. Are those gang signs from the best man at my rehearsal?!?

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133598 And why do I look preggers?!?

And just in case you don’t believe the cell phone distractions, more proof:

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133617 I can’t believe best man Don, a UGA grad, wore orange and blue to our rehearsal! I should have kicked him out! :P

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133627 Our ceremony site is ready…

Southern Sweethearts: A Distracting Rehearsal : wedding pictures rehearsal 7133615 …and we’re ready for tomorrow!

Will you institute a no cell phone policy leading up to your big day?

I tried to have a phone ban, but it didn’t quite work out. My alternative was to only deal with phone calls that I wanted to deal with. ;)

Our rehearsal and ceremony were at a church. So I think it was common sense that people should have their phones turned off. You just don’t have your phone on at a Catholic church.

YAY! I’m so excited for your recaps :) If I’d had vendors calling me at my rehearsal I would have instituted the same policy - Geezy Peezy!

I put on the ban! Luckily no one tried to break it and deal with my wrath!

Oooh, I’m so excited to see your recaps too, Lab!

I’m going to try to have a “Miss Scissors is relinquishing all control the week prior to the wedding” mandate. We’ll see how well that works out!

I got a friend to be my DOC for this exact reason! I don’t want to deal with any of this crap :)

Haha, I didn’t create a real policy, but I just ignored it and didn’t answer it. It wasn’t vendors calling me - it was friends. My MIL called me the morning of the wedding - she said she was expecting me to call her to wake her up? wtf - why would the bride work as a wake up service? I think that was her excuse for running a few minutes late. I didn’t care though…I was all smiles all day/wkend

@ETwedding: Haha, why is it that the bride is supposed to do ANYTHING during the wedding weekend? I know I told everyone what they needed to do/where they needed to be WELL in advance, but still kept getting calls to the contrary! lol

Ugh, so sorry about the crappy vendors. My cake lady was like that, too, calling me 48 hours before the wedding to say that she hadn’t found the final check in the mail until it was after the deadline for payment (sheeee lost it) and that even though it was now in her hands, she needed cash. And she was an hour subway ride away. I wanted to maim her with my bare hands. Thank god my brother went and made the trip with $200 of cash in his pocket. Stupid vendors.

We had lots of side conversations at our rehearsal, too. I finally just had to throw down with people. And the groom was the last to arrive. Yeah, I wasn’t thrilled. :)

Yaaaay, more Lab recaps! I LOL’d at your gang sign groomsmen! And poor B! The last picture says it all…

Still, you (and all your bridesmaids…at least B looks fierce through her frustration!) look gorgeous (and not pregnant!).

I love your wedding site. Just lovely!

I have a feeling that all calls will be directed to my mom or wedding planner that weekend so I don’t stress out.

I love the phone ban idea. I’m actually really happy- my venue (my beach club) is very old school and has a cell phone ban on club premises. They may only be used in the parking lot. That includes texts, internetting, etc. This goes for the wedding reception, too! Thank god! Cell phones have the potential to be so rude!

@cjm: There was one point where I had to be stern to keep people on track. I only did it because I’ve been to wedding rehearsals that went on and on and then people complained later about it being long when it was their own fault. Plus, we had a riverboat to catch for dinner! :D

Very very pretty dress! You look beautiful and kudos to your friend who kept that vendor at bay!

I love Savannah!

I’m lucky..we have “church ladies” who take their roles quite seriously and my doc is a friend(or) so there will be little monkey business..but crossing my fingers. I’m one who likes to just go to have the fun part! I want our wedding short and sweet!

You look beautiful - love your dress. Wow, major props to your BM for dealing with the vendor throughout the rehearsal!
