Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I had an odd realization today. I’m going to have a life after our wedding!

I know, I know, this should have been a big huge DUH, but it only just really occurred to me!

This week I made a reservation for us to go camping at one of our favorite places in the area, Big Basin Redwood State Park, for Labor Day weekend. Upon making the reservation, I put it on my calendar, and did a double take.

This was pretty much the first thing I’d put on my calendar in over a year that wasn’t tagged “wedding” or “wedding completed” or “wedding to do”!

It hit me then. After our wedding, life will go back to normal. We will have weekends free to go hiking, to have BBQs with friends, or to just hang out and do nothing. I will be able to finish my last two classes at SF State to get my Project Management Certification, and figure out which path I want to take my career down. We might find a new hobby, or start cleaning our house regularly and cooking real food instead of just throwing frozen dinners in the oven. (Well, maybe not so much on that cleaning one. ;) )

But life will go on.

After all the paper scraps are thrown away, the lanterns and decor sold off, and thank you cards written, there will be time for so much more!

This makes me a little sad, though. On one hand, I’ve absolutely loved immersing myself in wedding planning for the past 13 months. Looking at eye candy pictures, fine tuning my DIY skills, sharing and reading everything on Weddingbee—it’s been amazingly rewarding and fun. I know I’m going to have some serious withdrawals when it’s over. But on the other hand, it’s exciting to look forward to life after the wedding. I honestly hadn’t given it much thought until just now realizing that it will even exist! I guess I’ve been a little single minded, huh?

Probably many of you have given life after the wedding more thought than I have, though! But then, Mr. Cola and I have been dating over 7 years, and lived together as roommates years before that. So relationship-wise, not much will change for us, which is probably another reason why I haven’t thought about this much. But the amount of free time we’ll have after the wedding—it boggles my mind!

Have you thought much about what your life with your new husband will be like after you get married? Or have you been like me: so focused on the wedding that that’s all you’ve really thought about lately?

(And because a blog post without any pictures is no fun, I’ll leave you with a picture of Mr. Cola and I the last time we camped at Big Basin State Park, and us visiting the nearby elephant seal colony.)

There is not only life after the wedding, but it doesn’t wait for you. I’ve been playing catch-up for weeks, and I’m still behind!

I’ve been married for 6 months and I’m still waiting for life to get back to normal. I still can’t sell all of our left over wedding decor. No one is buying it and it’s still taking up our guest room. And I haven’t made our photo album or done a wedding scrapbook of all of the paper goods that I made for the wedding. If I ever get those things done then maybe life will go back to normal.

I did the EXACT same thing this weekend! I was making plans for something in July and had the same realization, like whoa, this will be AFTER the wedding! It’s crazy to think about and like you, I will def be sad when it’s done…

Love the photo with the tree! (And goodness–you look better than I do when I’m camping–I’m usually a greasy mess.)

Oh I can NOT wait! All I have been saying lately is “I can’t wait til this wedding is over, and I can get back to our normal life!” I used to go horseback riding every weekend, and I haven’t been in almost 2 months! We can’t wait to just go on a weekend trip, or sleep in once in a while! YAY for LAW (life after wedding)!

Focusing on what married life is going to be like is the only way I can make myself survive wedding planning! :)

Don’t get too excited about having a lot of free time! For some reason we were suuuuper busy after the wedding… most likely due to the fact that there was so much we put off during wedding planning that once it was over we were able to put it all back on our “to-do” list again!!!

It’s pretty insane to think all this crazy planning lifestyle will resume to normal lifestyle after a single day - craziness!!

We’ll still have our home party a month after the wedding, then hopefully we’ll have our new house to move into a few months after that, so life isn’t going back to normal any time soon for us! Oh free time, how I miss you so.

We just came from the Redwoods. I’m with Pengy, we’ve been super busy since the wedding but it’s all house related. The nice thing is that there isn’t a concrete deadline anymore.

I’m not there yet - the part where you think of post wedding life - but there seems to be much blog talk of post wedding-itis. I think for those that are creating their new nest together time is probably spent on DIY home decor and related eye candy ;)

oooh, I’m also looking into Project Mgmt Cert - how do you like the classes at SF State? I took an intro course at SF’s Learn-it center recently.

We had this realization this weekend. After our wedding, and friends’ weddings, and two overseas work trips, and thank yous, I am so looking forward to a more normal life!

I’m trying to not think about that itme because I really don’t know what I’m going to do. This has taken up SO much of my time. What will I do with all of that free time??

Gah, I have to finish this stupid PhD after the wedding… I start summer school the day we get back from our honeymoon! I actually think I’m excited about being post-wedding, even though I really want to savor the dwindling remaining days before the wedding!
