About Mrs. Jellyfish

How It All Began

April 13th, 2010 @ 6:51 pm by Mrs. Jellyfish

I’ve told you all about the proposal, but I realized today that I’ve never told you the story of how we met. Mr. Jelly did a great job of writing about it for our wedding website, so here is his version of the story:

The first time I met Miss Jellyfish was the third day I was at college. It was the Sunday night prior to the week classes were set to begin and was historically the biggest partying night of the year at UCLA – “Black Sunday.” Almost the entire L.A. basin converged on Westwood and almost all of the fraternities were throwing parties. Of course, I couldn’t resist the opportunity for my first big party at UCLA, so I went out on the town and had a fun night.

Miss Jellyfish is going to have to take up the story from the point where I arrived back at the dorms that night, but I can describe to you what happened the following morning. After a long night of socializing I woke up for lunch and made my way down to the dining hall. After some quick food, a bunch of water and some bright lights, I made my way back toward my room. The elevators going up to the fifth floor were all packed and after waiting in line for a while, I was able to squeeze my way on as one of the last people in the sardine can.

Trying to mind my own business in the packed elevator, all of a sudden I heard an excited voice saying, “Hi Mr. Jellyfish!” As I looked up and did a quick scan of the elevator I realized that I didn’t recognize anyone.

At this point the wheels in my head were turning fast, so I decided just to say hi and hope whomever it was that had initiated the conversation would speak up again. All I mustered was a simple “Hi,” but it worked. All of a sudden there was this gorgeous girl talking to me. I was easily the envy of all of the other sardines. Before I knew it we reached my floor and as I started to get off the elevator I realized that I wasn’t the only one. This girl apparently also lived on the floor. Seeing as how I was obviously on my A game and the wheels were still turning fast in my head, I quickly decided that I should ask for her name before it got too awkward.

“So, I am pretty sure that we met last night, but I don’t remember your name…”

Before I could finish Miss Jellyfish cut me off and as she stormed away said, “We met three times last night!” As I stood there all I could think was, “There goes my chance with that girl.”

Did you have a memorable meeting? Or did you and your FI get off to an awkward start?

My FI and I have a memorable meeting in that it happened at least four years after it should have. We went to college together and were even in marching band together for two years (I’m two years ahead of him) but we never met. We knew all the same people but our paths just didn’t cross until I’d been out of college for four years.

Mr. Taco doesn’t think I remember the first time we met (at work)! He said he was lovestruck, and it’s nice to believe him :)

Hey I don’t live too far from you. I am out in the East bay. Maybe someday we’ll have a bee meet-up out here.

Go Bruins…I lived in Dykstra my Freshman year! Although I didn’t meet FI until 7 or 8 years later.

aw I love this story - and I totally can relate! My FI and I definitely did not get off on the right foot! Miss Jellyfish I feel like our lives are so similar!! We actually met before school even got started, so here’s the scenario - after a long day of shopping for freshman dorm room accouterments with the rents, I was hot, tired, and overall just not in a good mood! I walked into our dorm’s common area (we had super awesome suites) and the future FI was sitting on the couch (he happened to have gone to high school with my new roommate and future BFF!) and he said something sarcastic to me about how many bags I was carrying. I can’t even remember what he said anymore, but I remember I was none too pleased, scowled at him, and kept walking. Although clearly things only went up from there =)

@amyrose84: That’s so funny! Were you at UCLA, too?
@alvina: I know, right?! I have NO idea why we got in the piggyback pose. I was still with my high school BF at the time, and believe me, we were truly JUST friends. But yeah, a little odd. Rieber Hall, not Rieber Vista…that’s the new one! You kids are so young :)

That’s hilarious! Better than my own story, although mine also got off to a rocky start. I was convinced within the first week of meeting my now-fiance (we shared classes and lived in the same dorm our freshman year in college) that he didn’t like me at all. I was mistaken though, and we became fast friends shortly thereafter. =)

Our story is the other way around. The Mister and I met at a happy hour and I didn’t remember. So we call the second time we met “When we met for real.” hehe

I remember the first time I saw my fi. In 7th grade I was working backstage for our community theater’s production of The Wizard of Oz. At the dress rehearsal, I suddenly noticed him, decked out like a green leprechaun for the emerald city scene. He was so cute. I had an awkward crush on him during the play. Then I didn’t really see him again until our freshman year of highschool. I remember seeing him walking down the hall in Chuck Taylors and a cardigan. I thought he was soooooo hot. Lol. Our paths never crossed and then my senior year of hgh school. We were cast in a play as romantic opposites. (The play is “Proof.” They made a movie with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllanhall.)
I was crushed when I saw that the kissing scene was cut. Well one day there was a snow day and he came up to my locker and asked me if I wanted to come over and “practice our lines.’ We ended up watching movies and holding hands and NOT practicing our lines. The rest is history. What a fun post!

Me and the FI had an awkward first meeting too! We didn’t give each other the time of day nor cared to recall each other’s name! haha!

Cute story! My FI and I also met in school, but culinary school. I was taking a baking and pastry class and this tall guy kept on asking me to make him a vanilla milkshake. He actually got me in trouble several times with my chef instructor. I finally made it for him so he would leave me alone when it finally clicked…he was trying to show that he liked me! We’re going to serve vanilla milkshakes at our wedding!
