At this point I wanted nothing more to do with the ring / proposal process. (Yes I don’t like surprises, but I wanted to keep some tradition.) We had met Nagi our jeweler and I told him what I wanted. Mr. Lobster was responsible for everything else. It turns out he needed an axe.
Because we live in the city, Mr. Lobster could only see Nagi on the weekends. On the Sunday he picked up the ring, the store was closed so Nagi invited him over to his house. When Mr. L arrived, Nagi displayed his hospitality with an unexpected surprise - a full spread Lebanese lunch. Mr. Lobster loooves to eat (as do I, we’re happy eaters) and dug in. Then Nagi asked a question that Mr. Lobster’s never been asked…
“Have you ever chopped wood? It’s very relaxing.”
Mr. Lobster, having grown up in a Manhattan apartment, has barely *been* in the woods much less chop any. But if that’s what it took to get our ring, that’s what it took. And so he chopped wood, with Nagi.
The funny thing is this isn’t the only yard work my city boy had to do leading to his proposal.
Did your fiance have any unexpected experiences getting your engagement ring?
