Unleashing the Bridal Beast

April 13th, 2010 @ 6:24 pm by Mrs. Sewing

It’s official. I’ve blown my first bridal-gasket. I erupted with earth-shattering, high-pitched screams and wails. Veins, pumped full of blood, stood out at my temples. My fists curled into tightly-clenched weapons of pure rage. Mr. Sew cowered in the background, creating a low undercurrent of pleas to calm the catastrophic living room storm.

Can you guess what happened?

Italian soda. RED Italian soda. Bright red, read it—RED artificial coloring.

ON MY WEDDING DRESS.

Hell hath no fury like a woman with a stained wedding gown. I barked orders at Mr. Sew as he ran around the house like a chicken with his head cut off, yet somehow we got to the sink and the Woolite in time. It wasn’t just some piddly speck of a stain, either. This was a monster, half-the-bottle slosher. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of it, since photographic evidence wasn’t the first thing that came to mind while in panic-mode.

Mr. Sew spent the better part of his evening scrubbing his soda out of my dress. Luckily, I think it came out, though you can still see faint pink stains on the underside of the gown. After it dries I’ll be able to see if there’s any lasting damage. I certainly hope not, because blowing one fuse was bad enough.

Chalk this up to another risk for DIY dress-making—fiance hazards. I think someone’s getting a sippy cup soon.

Did your dress endure any battle stains, either pre- or post-wedding?

@shantastic: i ask myself the same question!
@Westie: haha, it is red, isn’t it? and good soda too. just not on my dress. kind of makes me worry about the fruit punch we’re serving at the reception..
@Miss Snow: yep, good thing mr. snow convinced you not to take pics of your dress around the house! it’s dangerous!

The first time I tried on my dress at my moms house, we were all looking in the mirror while my 2 year old daughter stood behind us. Little did we know, she had opened a bottle of red nailpolish-standing a few inches away from the back of my dress. My mom caught her, and quietly and slowly took it from her hands.

IF she had known someone was coming to take it away from her she would have jerked her hand away, painting my dress (terrible twos Ahhhh!) I was soooo thankful my caught her!

OH NO! This may not be funny now, but it will be down the road. From here on out though, Mr. Sew should probably keep a lid on it around your dress. :)

@Miss V: wow, good for your mom! nail polish definitely wouldn’t have been an easy stain to fix!
@Jina of JAC: you can feel bad for him! i feel kind of evil for yelling at him so much, but seriously I think I just snapped! disturbing!

I was at a wedding where right at the start of the reception a guest clumsily dumped a glass of red wine down the front of the bride as they were going in for a hug. It was the mother of all stains and huge. The stain came out with two Tide pens and a lot (like 30 minutes worth) of rubbing.

Make sure Tide pens are in the wedding day emergency kit!
