About Mrs. Octopus

Flower girls (and their outfits) are completely adorable, right?

J.CREW SRSLY STOP IT!! You know gold is one of my wedding colors!!

However, despite all the cute twirly dress potential, we won’t have any little kids bringin’ the precious to our wedding party. The reason behind this decision is actually a good thing: we are lucky enough to have an overabundance of candidates!

Check out this laundry list: Mr. Octopus is the doting uncle of four beautiful nieces, ranging in age from three to nine. I have a five-year-old cousin who, in addition to being cute beyond belief, is also the fanciest girly-girl in town. Rounding out the potential flower girl pool is Bridesmaid Clara’s gorgeous daughter, who will be just shy of her second birthday by the time the wedding rolls around. Grand total? Six children who would all make outstanding flower girls.

Now, you may disagree, but in my opinion, six flower girls is liiiiiittle bit of overkill. I feel like they’d look like a (cute) small army coming down the aisle. Also, more practically speaking, there is no way we could manage to fit six pomanders/flower petal baskets/whatever into the floral budget.

If I could throw some math at you, an average quote of forty-five dollars for something like this x 6 = Hell. No.

Mr. O and I were absolutely not willing to pick one or two of the girls and leave the rest out, so we made the call: no kids in the wedding party at all. I think a few people were a little disappointed at first, but everyone was very understanding and supportive of our rationale, so it all worked out okay.

The good news is, we are inviting children to the wedding—and there are a lot of children on our guest list—so hopefully we will make up for no cute-flower-flower girlflower girl photos with lots of excited-kids-dancing photos:

Did you decide to have flower girls (or ring bearers), or not? What was the rationale for your choice?

Luckily I only have one niece (an adorable 3 year old who thinks everytime I come visit that means we are going shopping) and the bf has one nephew (who just took his first step). so when the time comes I think we have the perfect amount of kiddies for the wedding party :)

luckily I only have one set of little cousins, so it was an easy decision. And they’re old enough to be bribed with candy. That was a must for me. I love all your kid pictures.. so cute!

i am having two flower girls, but no ring bearer. We originally only wanted one flower girl but the two girls we are having are sisters and figured that if we only had the youngest (3yrs old) the oldest (8yrs old) would be upset/jealous, so we decided to have them both! The only reason we are not having a ring bearer is because we dont have any young boys in either of our families!

We had 4 ringbearers - actually 5 - the 5th was 9 months old so he was an “honorary ring bearer” - we have 5 nephews total - so there was definitely no way to decide. And, we had no flower girls.

I think it’d be adorable to have 6 flower girls - you don’t necessarily have to give them pomanders - they can just hold each other’s hands - or give them ribbon wands to twirl as they walk down the aisle. It’d be super cute!

so glad that the kids will be joining the celebration regardless! that decision makes the most sense.

We’re going the “no kids” route. From start to finish. But flower girl outfits are so cute - I’m a little sad that we won’t be able to include them in the wedding.

I think we will end up with an army, which I love! My cousin as a Jr. Bridesmaid, my other cousin as a flower girl, my older cousins kids as ring bearers (and maybe a jr. flower girl, cross your fingers on the next one being a girl!!!) and his cousin’s daughter as a flower girl. I love the pictures of the brides with their little flower girl armies. SO cute.

We had to make the same decision as you - nix kids in the wedding party. Otherwise, we would have had:

3 Jr BMs
2 flower girls
and 8 (EIGHT!!!!) ring bearers.

YIKES! Talk about an army of cute!!

My fiancé and I decided to have one flower girl, and one ring bearer. Surprise! :) They’re his cousins, and my fiancé was their dad’s ring bearer. It’s a continuing cycle.

We had a small pool of candidates and chose one of each at random.

Two years ago I went to the wedding of a long time family friend from Aruba (he actually planned the wedding around the time my family would be vacationing there!!).

It’s tradition there to only have children in the wedding party….neices, nephews, cousins, friend’s children, etc. My friend had almost 20 attendants and more than 1/2 were girls. ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! The girls wore a halo of flowers and matching dresses and they were beyond cute.

I would love to do something like this, but unfortunately I don’t have too many little kids in my family =(

We have a flower girl and no ring bearer. It was an easy decision since between both families and the bridal party we only have one child!

i have 3 nieces within flowergirl age and access to plenty of little ring bearer age boys but i’m leaning towards not having any children in the wedding party. just one less thing to coordinate and worry about

I have a “matching set” for my flower girl and ring bearer! My matron of honor, who I’ve known since we were 6, has boy-girl twins that will be just shy of their 4th birthday by the time our wedding rolls around. How perfect is that?? I’ll be having them walk down together, and their mom will already be up at the front. =)

Aw, flower girls are so cute, they always remind me of innocent little fairies :) I don’t blame you though for not wanting six or trying to choose!

We are having 2 flower girls and one ring bearer! The girls will be 3 and almost 8. Our ring bearer will be 6. Fun ages!! Have as many or as little as you want. It’s all about you and your fun times. Are you having a kids’ table or kids activities? That might keep them out of your cake, too! ;)

We aren’t doing FGs or RBs. There are just no little kids that we are close enough to to ask.

We could have had 4 ringbearers, FH’s 4 nephews are all about the same age. We ended up choosing one, and the others will help hand out programs, whatever we have as we leave the church (bubbles, etc) if they want to. I have no doubt though, that they’ll all be adorable :) We did go with 2 flower girls though, my niece and his niece who are only a month apart age-wise :)
