I have a fear that keeps creeping around in the back of my brain, and it has to do with our wedding day photography. No, it doesn’t concern Corey Ann—she’s going to be fabulous—but I am worried about someone else who will be heavily involved in the pictures taken on that day in September.

The person who raises a couple of red flags for me is Mr. Octopus.

Why? Well, instead of giving you an elaborate explanation, let me offer you the following exhibit which demonstrates his favorite and instantaneous reaction to having a camera in his presence. Believe me when I say that the following collage is just a tiny fraction of the body of evidence showing the way he responds to having his picture taken:

Maybe you were wondering if he also enjoys striking ridiculous poses in front of the camera? The answer to that, too, is a resounding yes:

Okay, so I actually think this hobby of his is kind of hilarious. I laughed the entire time I was compiling those pictures. Honestly, I won’t mind if he goofs around in (…some of) the portraits, because it is just so, so, so, so him. I am also reassured by the fact that he does manage to smile appropriately sometimes, and looks quite handsome doing it.

However, you also better believe that I will NOT be the one trying to explain to his grandmother why we have wedding portraits that look like this:

Is your fiance silly in front of a camera? Are you going to try to make sure he gets it together for the photographer?

Is Mr. Octopus also a fan of the phenomenon known as the “Photo Bomb”? I fear retribution by our friends in our wedding portraits. . .

I have a similar problem with my FI. But, part of what made me fall in love with him in the first place was, um, his free spirit! LOL. We hired photographers that shoot in a photo-journalistic style who capture mostly candid and art photographs, thus reducing the number of posed shots and opportunities for him to make a goofy face.

If you haven’t hired your photographers yet, maybe that’s a way to go?

hahaha i love mr. octopus! i tend to do this also (although of course he really takes the cake!). i’m sure for the wedding he will put on his handsome smile face!

Haha I have exactly the opposite problem. My fiance looks incredibly morose in every single picture. We’ve gotten to the point where his lips slightly turn up in pictures, but I’m pretty sure many of our wedding pictures will look pretty hilarious for all the wrong reasons! Oh well.

P.S. your pictures are hilarious!

Haha! I think Mr. Octopus and Mr. Hamster are poser-twins! Hamsterman can spot a camera a mile away and immediately makes a “funny” pose in response.

HAHA! My Fi and I both do this sometimes….(a lot) and that’s why I’m really glad that our photographer threw in the e-pics to help practice posing in front of the camera. I’m thinking we’ll probably take some funny ones, but I hope he just doesn’t think too much and shows off his beautiful smile!

haha, i love the photos, mr. octo! personally i find funny photos a ton more interesting to look at than normal ones, but I’m sure he’ll take some decent ones for the family album!

Wow, those are some creative pics! My FI doesn’t intentionally sabotage photos, but cameras tend to catch him with his eyes closed. These pics are always immediately followed by ones in which his eyes appear to be bugging out of his head in his attempt to keep his eyes open. The latter happened with his driver’s license. It’s hilarious.

Guh, Mr. Roux not only hates photos, but the ones he is in he always looks stoned, even though he never is! He is like Chandler when Monica and Chandler have their engagemnt photo shoot, normal, nice smile till there is a camera pointed at him, and then his face gets all screwy. sigh.

My future hubs is much like Mr. O, he seems the most comfortable making absurd faces and does it quite well. Sadly, when he tries to smile a happy teethy smile, it often looks forced. Hopefully all the joy of the wedding will fix that.

I have a non-smiler too like KKW and Shantastic’s men. He just looks so angry sometimes but I’m so used to his “picture face” that if he cracks a half smile I think he looks weird! I’m SOOOOOO worried about our pictures too! Not to mention how awkward we BOTH are in pictures!

My husband is the EXACT SAME WAY. In fact, I had dated my husband for almost two years before he met my father. Once, over Christmas break (while I was studying abroad), I visited my dad and brought over some albums to show him my travels. He noticed one guy in a lot of the pictures and asked who he was. I responded, “That’s my boyfriend.” My father continued to flip through the pages of the album. Upon opening the second album he immediately came across yet another picture of my goofy husband. “GOD!” my dad exploded. “Can’t this guy look straight in a single photo?”

And that was my dad’s first introduction to my husband….

SO before we took our engagement pictures (and wedding pictures), I made my husband promise to behave. He was pretty good too! Although, during some of our bridal party portraits, he insisted that none of the groomsmen (or himself) were to put smiles on. He insisted on being “serious” so be careful if you tell him not to be goofy–he may just go the opposite on you!
