About Mrs. Hamster

The countdown is winding down, and the big day is quickly approaching. One of my after-work pick-me-ups these days is opening our mailbox and seeing these little blue envelopes peeking out through bills and takeout menus.

Worth Repeating - Number Your RSVP Cards! : wedding nyc rsvp stationery Rsvp00 rsvp+00

We’ve got mail!

Today, we got the following response:

Hm. So *someone* is really excited to celebrate with us. But who?

Yes, numbering your RSVP cards has been tackled by previous bees before, as well as discussed on the boards. Some creative bees even use a magic pen with invisible ink for some discreet tracking. However, almost every bride I have spoken to has received at least one anonymous response, so I thought this tip beared repeating! Whatever your method, I highly recommend number your RSVPs, so when you get overzealous but anonymous responses, you know who to credit.

In our case, I was too lazy to look for an invisible ink pen (and later told by the lovely Miss Scissors that it doesn’t do so well on Lettra paper) so I used my trusty black ballpoint. Thanks to this nifty system, I now know that my cousin and her hubby are thrilled to attend. Phew, mystery solved!

Any other tracking systems you find useful? Have you received any anonymous RSVP cards?

I didn’t do this and it struck me pretty much as soon as I mailed them that I was inviting disaster. You (and everyone else) are much smarter :)

I did the “Name(s) _________” instead of the “M__________”and I didn’t get any back without names. I think the “M___” confuses people.

If it’s your cousin, and you know them well, I’d say “I got your RSVP but just a note for future weddings, the M is to write your name next to.”

I did the name(s) wording like rachel_leigh and so far no no names. We numbered just inside the envelope for good measure though!

We got our first one of these the other day, and we even asked our guests to write their names next to their meal choice so we would know who wanted what entree. This guest left the “M _______” blank and just put a check mark next to their meal preference. Luckily the number on the back of the card saved the day!

We just did the M_______ thing and haven’t gotten any rsvps filled out without names, fortunately. We considered doing some sort of tracking, but then we realized we’d have to be careful to be sure we sent the right number rsvp to the right number person and decided it was too much of a hassle. so far so good!

Some may find this tacky, but we’re going for the whole “green” environmentalist side: we’re doing online RSVPs. Each guest signs in & identifies who they are, then RSVPs for the events they are invited to. REALLY helps when you’ve got guests invited to multiple events, like RDs, Showers, Bach-parties, etc. Saves SO much paper & all the hassle of “who are you?”

LOVE your invites & the calligraphy is GAWRGEOUS!

I used the blacklight pen on plantable paper and it worked like a charm!

I don’t mean to sound totally clueless here but I don’t understand why, when sending RSVP cards to your guests, brides just don’t put the invited guest’s return address label on the RSVP envelope. You’re already putting a stamp on it, and your own address (to receive the response) and since your guests are mailing out the reply, shouldn’t all mail have a return address on it anyway? It would just make it so much easier to open your mailbox and know who your response is from without opening the envelope and cross-referencing a number?

I had someone send in the card with their names but didn’t mark off either box! I was like, uhhhh, so are you coming or not?!?!? HAHA!

@LurkMcGurk:

If I had to do one more thing with my invites I’d have killed myself!

We did RSVP postcards and the backlight pen method which has come in handy once already. It was enough trouble making sure the correct # of persons invited was hand written on the “we have reserved ___ seats in your honor” part!

Haha, that’s funny… to me, it would be more effort pulling out a special pen and cross-referencing. I personally just printed 2 address labels for my guests instead of 1.

We printed their return address on their postcard RSVP, that way we knew at least who they were coming from and they fill out their names in the RSVP.

Maybe I’m totally tactless, but we were very concerned (with good reason, since it happened at BOTH his bro/sis’s weddings) that people would be adding uninvited guests. So we wrote out the name of each person invited, instead of leaving it for them to do, and then wrote “Yes, We’ll be there _ of _#invited_ will be attending” or “Sorry we’ll have to miss the fun” So far the only issue I have run into is if the entire party isn’t coming, then we’ll have to find out which members are/aren’t coming. So far this hasn’t happened, or we knew exactly who wasn’t coming (at least we assume it’s the “and guest, and not the main invitee who won’t make it ;-) ) I guess this method probably doesn’t fly according to etiquette, but it was a necessity for us! Also, we haven’t had anyone forget to put the # attending, so it’s worked fairly well for us! Also, obviously, we didnt need to number the response cards.

I wish I would have even HEARD about this idea before I sent mine out…I’ve already had several anonymous responses and we still have 2 weeks left until the cutoff!

@ms.pascua: Thanks! I think the online rsvp system is a great idea - one of my friends did this and she said it was much easier to organize on the back end as well.

@LurkMcGurk: I think that’s a great idea if you’re already printing out address labels - saves a lot of work! In our case, we ended up not doing address labels for our invitations, so it was easier to just use the # system rather than have the labels printed additionally (and they wouldn’t have shown up on our blue envelopes.

@Miss Trail Mix: Haha! I wonder if we will receive one of those!

@alohababy28: I think that’s very effective, and I personally wouldn’t find it tactless as a guest :)
