Mrs. Jellyfish's Picture
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!

My Wedding Buddy

April 15th, 2010 @ 5:42 pm by Mrs. Jellyfish

Okay, so you know that part of Toy Story where Woody is organizing all the toys for their big move and asks them if everyone has a moving buddy? He then says, “A moving buddy — if you don’t have one, GET ONE!”

Well, this post is not quite about moving buddies, but it is about wedding buddies. You see, early in the planning process, bridesmaid E told me about her law school friend Jenn, who is getting married at the same venue as Mr. Jelly and I are, only a couple months later. Jenn started reading my blog, and I started reading hers, and one day we decided to finally meet in person! We had so much fun talking about our wedding ideas and brainstorming together. Since we’re getting married at the same place, we’re interviewing a lot of the same vendors so we can share our notes on them and discuss our impressions. We discovered that we’re also doing our rehearsal dinners at the same place and we even booked the same florist! We’re also going to share containers for our candy buffets, since we’re both doing them. The best part is we have similar taste and a ton in common (hello, law school and adorable pups! And our engagement rings are almost exactly the same), so now I refer to her as my “wedding twin”.

Last Friday, we met up at the venue to see it all set up and to ask the venue coordinator some questions. It was really fun. It’s nice having a buddy who doesn’t get tired of talking about weddings, and who knows exactly what you’re talking about when you lament the difficulty of opening the wrought-iron gate at the venue. That’s flipping awesome you found a wedding twin. I don’t think I have a wedding twin here, but I guess I can always check out the wedding bee’s section of month twins!

That’s really lucky, I’ve tried to become “wedding buddies” with some of Mr Trail Mix’s friend’s fiances but for whatever reason, neither had any interest in bonding over weddings…Shame!

I do kind of have a wedding buddy. I found a girls blog that is getting married the day after I am and left a comment on her blog. We haven’t met or anything though and she isn’t a very active blogger. We’ve just exchanged a couple emails about when we are doing rehearsal.

I wish I had someone that I was closer with or something, that would be really cool! Are you guys going to each other’s weddings? I think that would be fun!

I do! Me and May Bride S used to watch all the wedding shows together before we were even engaged.

@Miss Britt: Yes, we both invited one another to each others’ weddings! She can’t go to mine because she had already committed to another wedding, but I’ll be going to hers!!

My sister is my wedding buddy. We are getting married a year apart but our engagements overlapped for a year, so we did a lot of our planning together. It was awesome!

I do! Kind of. A good friend from work and I seem to go through life together. Hired a month apart, sit in cubicles next to each other, promoted at the same time, had grandmothers pass away a month apart (sad), got engaged a couple months and now are getting married a couple months apart. We don’t have the same venue, or even necessarily the same taste, but it is so nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of or just blabber about weddings with and not have to worry if you are overwhelming or annoying them with wedding madness. Unfortunately our work might be suffering because of it, but oh well!

My wedding buddy is a friend of mine (and bridesmaid) who happened to get married last month. Luckily she’s a wedding photog, too, so she never gets tired of hearing about wedding!

I have one, we got engaged only weeks apart and are getting married one month apart. She has been a great shopping buddy too, between the two of us we have gotten some great deals and we never tire of wedding talk.

I love weddings. I always have. No matter who was getting married, I always wanted to know the little details. It was a shocker when I got engaged to find out most people are not like I am! Even many of my bridesmaids were not that interested. I do have one bridesmaid who is like me, so its been fun talking about the details. Thank goodness for her and this website, where people love talking about weddings!

I did not have a wedding buddy (although it sounds amazing!), BUT I do love Toy Story - it is incredibly quotable! I’m a 1st grade teacher, so I say “…if you don’t have one, GET ONE” constantly and for all sorts of reasons (pencils, library books, spelling tests, scissors). I find it hysterical :)
