Mrs. Dolphin's Picture
Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer Engagement Date: February 14, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
About Mrs. Dolphin

When trying to figure out what kind of music we wanted at our wedding (band, DJ, classical, etc.), Mr. Dolphin and I had very different ideas. He wanted a string quartet for the ceremony and cocktails, and I wanted a band for the reception. We compromised (more like I gave in) and we decided on a string trio (quartet was too much $$$) and a DJ for the reception.

It was incredibly hard to find a string trio in our price range (most were quoting us anywhere from $500-$800 for 2 hours). We booked The Classern Quartet out of Orlando, FL through GigMasters for $350 for 3 musicians (violin, viola, and cello). They are going to play for 2 hours, which will cover pre-ceremony, our ceremony and an hour of cocktails. One of the things we really liked about them is that they play not just classical music but also modern tunes (Coldplay anyone?).

Pre-Ceremony
A mixture of classical and modern songs

Seating of the Parents

“Air” by Bach

Bridal Party Entrance (played softly during)
Bride’s Entrance with Father (played slightly louder)
“Hey There Delilah” by Plain White Ts, played by Vitamin String Quartet

Recessional (Walking back down the aisle as man and qife)
“Bittersweet Symphony” by the Verve, played by Vitamin String Quartet

It was difficult to decide exactly what songs we wanted for our ceremony. We struggled with traditional songs, they were too overplayed in our minds. We wanted something different and more us. Plain White Ts’ Hey there Delilah song has special meaning to Mr. Dolphin and me. If you listen to the lyrics in the song it talks about a couple who are miles away, in school and in love. For those who don’t know, Mr. Dolphin and I spent 3 years of our relationship apart (while he was attending UCF and I at UF).

I can’t wait to walk down the aisle to this beautiful song and marry Mr. Dolphin… we are getting down to the wire!!!

Do you have any non-traditional plans for your wedding ceremony music?

You got a string trio???? I’m totally jealous - *swoon* I soooo wanted one, but they were beyond our budget and I ended up just hiring a pianist.

We are doing the same kind of mix of classical instruments and modern songs. We are having a cello, guitar, violin trio for the prelude, ceremony and cocktail hour and they are going to play “Reign of Love” for the processional and “Viva la Vida” for the recessional (both by Coldplay). For the rest of the time we have given them the option to play whatever they want and is appropriate.

We also have a soft spot for Hey there Delilah because of our long distance year! And I think I’m going to incorporate this classical version into our reception! Thanks! (Listening to it makes me want to tear up)

We are using “Bittersweet” for the bridal party; FI will walk down to a Beatles song (which is classic for him) and I’m walking down to “It Had to Be You” - which I loved from watching When Harry Met Sally a bazillion times. For the recessional, we are going with the traditional Jewish “Simon Tov.” Of all the aspects of the wedding, this will be my favorite.

I love Vitamin String Quartet! “Hey There Delilah” is a beautiful instrumental to walk down to! I’m having a friend play “More Than Words” by Extreme on guitar (FI learned how to play it to impress me before we got together because it’s one of my all-time favorites) for our processional. For our recessional, I’m using the VSQ version of “Hands Down” by Dashboard Confessional — my favorite line is “Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember…” Sums it up nicely. :)

I will be walking down the aisle to “Hysteric” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When I first heard It’s Blitz, I knew that was the song for me. The refrain “You suddenly complete me” is exactly how it was for us. Both my FI and I had recently got out of relationships when we met, and neither of us were looking but it was impossible to deny how good we were together.

Now, hopefully my Dad’s OK with it. He hasn’t heard it yet, but he knows I want to walk down the aisle to a contemporary song. I’m sure it’ll be cool, though, he’s been really supportive of all our personalization, he’s even OK that we’re not having a religious ceremony (and religion’s big for my Dad.)

Aw, I LOVE that you’re using “Hey there Delilah” LOOOOVE PWT’s! We’re doing “Our Time Now” for our reception entrance. For ceremony we’re doing “Trumpet Voluntary” and “Spring from the Four Seasons” (since our wedding is in May) for pre-ceremony. “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” for bridal party entrance, and “Canon in D” for my entrance - I know it’s way overused, but it was the only thing I ever planned for my wedding as a little girl (thanks to “Father of the Bride”) For the recessional we’re doing “Here Comes the Sun” and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles. We have a guitarist for the ceremony, and he is WONDERFUL- I’m so excited to hear him play!

Vitamin String Quartet is amazing and I used several of their songs while the guests were being seated and for our ceremony. I really like their version of the Beatles “Let It Be”.

All of our music will be non traditional. I’m not a fan of traditional wedding music at all. Our musicians will have to learn some new music, hah!

ooh how lovely! we’ll most likely go the traditional classical route. we’ll be getting married in our church which doesn’t allow for secular music to be played.

Im always so jealous of couples that can use “secular” music! our church has a strict “the only song that is not sacred (classical, i guess) that can be used is “one hand, one heart” policy. boo.

I love your choices. We are thinking about using the Plain White T’s for our processional too, except we’d use “1, 2, 3, 4.”
