Happy Feet

April 16th, 2010 @ 4:47 pm by Ms Potato Chips

Friday confessions:

Sometimes, when I’m writing papers at my desk, I put on my wedding shoes just for fun. They class up my pajama pants.

And sometimes I wear them while cooking. And I feel pretty sassy. And I tap-dance around my kitchen. Sometimes. If the mood strikes.

And also, they kinda hurt. They kinda hurt a lot.

Have you practiced wearing your wedding shoes? Any suggestions on how to break them in or make them more comfy?

my only advice is–back up pair. After pictures you are going to leap into them– make sure they are relatively the same height so your dress looks the same and they’re best if they’re old-stand-by’s that you’ve worn before.

I do this too!! I wear them while watching tv (and sitting on my ass. Not really sure if that’s breaking them in or not). So no…no real suggestions. Just a fellow shoe-with-sweatpants wearer here.

I need to do this! I’m going to wear shoes that I bought years ago - but only wore once. They are adorable but kind of uncomfortable.

P.S. I love your shoes!

Ms PC, my solution was to wear them, wear them, and then wear them some more. I took my wedding shoes to Vegas and went dancing. I put them on with shorts and wander around the house, up and down the stairs. I think they are pretty broken in at this point and my feet are becoming Happy Feet. Good luck with yours! It’s all worth it, right?!

I had a former coworker advise wearing new shoes around the house with huge (thick) socks on. I have never tried it b/c I dont like wearing heels around the house, but since you are anyway, you might as well give it a go! I’m an terrified to take my shoes out of the closet b/c our puppy’s favorite chew toy is shoes. Good luck!

Ooh I’m going to try that sock with shoes trick. I’ve not been able to wear mine until I scuff the bottoms. They are SO slippery right now.

I agree with Mojito; just keep doing what you’re doing. The more you wear them, the more they will conform to your feet and the more comfortable they will become. This is what I’m doing with my own shoes as well.

Haha, love that picture!

I didn’t break my shoes in, but I should have! My toesies were in pain by the end of the night, and I ended up switching into a pair of the flip flops we left for our guests.

get a shoe stretcher. Target sells them for $15. Buy two so you can have one in each shoe at the same time. The pink ones at target break easily though (they are ceramic). So I’ve been using the wooden shoe stretchers lately.

How about the Dr Scholl’s pads that take some of the pressure off of the ball of your foot? That always works for me!

Get a good shoe horn (cedar from Nordstrom’s) and have that puppy stretch the shoes out for you! Wearing them beforehand also helps :)

I wear them all the time around the house!

@tweds: Good idea on the shoehorn.

I wore them all the time at home, too! Especially when we practiced our first dance in the living room. :)

Mine were pretty comfortable, but I had comfy backup pair, too (which I did end up needing… comfortable for three hours is not the same as comfortable all day).

@Talishazwi: If you take your shoes outside and scrape them on the driveway, that will really help. Using a coarse grain sandpaper is best, but not everyone has that hanging around!

I bend my shoes in every way I can to get the fabric to flex, and I wear them around the house doing chores. Best of luck, and it’s a GREAT idea to break them in.

Oh goodness! I am totally scared to wear my wedding shoes out b/c I feel like I’m going to mess them up. I’ve worn them a few times around the house, but I don’t usually wear shoes in the house and it feels weird!

where do they hurt? if it’s the ball of the foot or around the heel, i suggest the foamy shoe inserts. if they’re tight, you can try wearing thick socks while you’re traipsing around the house in them or use a shoe stretcher.

I bought flats; can’t handle the pain.
Best of luck to you heel-wearers out there!

Haha, I love that you posted this! :) I’m like Miss Lace though, terrified of making mine look too worn or messing them up before the wedding.
