Inspiration Everywhere: Hair

April 16th, 2010 @ 3:46 pm by Mrs. Turtle

As you may have noticed, I went from posting twice a day to being a little scarce around here. Don’t worry, my enthusiasm about Weddingbee has most definitely not wavered. I’ve just been totally overwhelmed with school and work craziness, running on caffeine and adrenaline, and feeling very far removed from the wonderful world of wedding planning. But I promise I’m coming out of my shell now! (You know, my shell, since I’m a turtle…get it?!) I have so many wedding details I can’t wait to share with you next week, but today I’m got another little collection of inspiration photos to show off.

An aspect of our wedding that I’ve barely given a thought to is how I’m going to wear my hair. I know I want it down, but that’s about it. When I hit the three month countdown the other day, it really hit me that it’s time to start figuring this stuff out! Honestly, looking through wedding magazines for hairstyles has left me feeling a little uninspired. A lot of beautiful updos, but not many brides with their hair down, and nothing that really sticks out as my style. Then it occurred to me to look to one of my very favorite places: the fashion industry!

Right now I’m just loving, like love love loving the hair and makeup looks from the Dior Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear show. Retro waves, side part, totally glamorous…

So I’m thinking I’d like to look a little something like this, but with pink lips rather than red.

How are you ladies wearing your hair for your weddings? Where did you find your inspiration photos? Did wedding magazines come through for you, or did you end up taking inspiration from a non-wedding source?

Ooh I like it! I haven’t figured out hair yet but I think those styles would look fabulous on you since they’re like a glammed up version of your everyday hair (or at least what I can tell from your pics).

I gotta say it - those models are WAY WAY WAY too thin. Sick.

Cinnamon, I just had the same thought. Some of the girls are scary skinny. Yikes! The fashion industry really really needs to work on this.

That’s gorgeous. Reminds me of how Mrs. Lamb wore her hair. You’ll look stunning!

I’m with the posters above: Ignoring the anorexic fembots, the hairstyling is FAB :) Very 40s vixen!

If you really want to go for Retro Waves. Try and get a hold of “Retro Hairstyles of the 1940s” it’s out of print but a lot of public (and universities with theatre programs) libraries have it on hand. It gives detailed instructions and diagrams.
(I have every intention of doing waves for mine with a slightly more extreme than my usual side part.)

Thanks so much for posting this! These are very similar to how I plan to wear my hair and the extra inspiration photos are very helpful.

@Greene: Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely check it out from the library and get some tips for my hairstylist!

@sapphirebride: Oh good! I’m so glad someone else found the pictures helpful! I hadn’t found too many inspiration photos until these either!

And sorry if anyone found the photos offensive! I am really obsessed with the fashion industry and look at runway photos all the time, so the size of the girls didn’t even occur to me. I just think they look beautiful with that hair and makeup! :)

@Miss Turtle: You don’t need to apologise for the photos. They served to illustrate your post well. Those girls ARE too skinny, though. I feel sorry for the women inside those super-thin bodies. I hope they know that they’d be beautiful and worthy at any size.

OK, so maybe I’m just really lame, but I cannot figure out how to message you. Anyway, I found this and thought you’d appreciate it’s awesomeness: http://www.eleganthawaiianjewelry.com/content-product_info/product_id-2040/sterling_silver_hawaiian_double_honu_blue_opal_ring.html

What are those models SO pissed off about-didn’t get any breakfast..(ever)? Yeah, I like the look a lot-I did a similar thing-the red lips and all b/c I had a vintage-y looking sheath dress.
