Sprucing Up the Guestbook

April 16th, 2010 @ 11:21 am by Mrs. Nachos

On a trip to Party City a while back, I picked up this guestbook for $15…

It seemed a little plain but I knew I could add a few decorative touches to it.

I pulled out some ribbon and got to work. First I carefully peeled back the paper lining the inside cover, then cut 2 pieces of ribbon and glued them on the inside. Then I glued the paper back over the edges of the ribbon. Using the same method I came up with for my card box bow, I created a bow and sewed it directly onto the book. In hindsight, I should have done this before I glued the paper back on because I now have a few not-so-pretty holes inside the cover of the book…

Oh well, maybe I can cover it up with something. And here’s the finished product…

It looks a little nicer with some embellishments!

Did you add your own personal touches to anything that you thought looked a little plain?

That looks great! You could always put another layer of paper over the stitch marks or just not worry about it.

Love the guestbook! It looks wonderful! I like Curlysue’s idea; you could even find a cute piece of scrapbook paper in your wedding colors:)

Love the bow; it really would look too simple without it.

Personally, I’m just not a fan of just the lines on a page and folks (many though not all) simply writing their name and a quick congrats. I’ve always felt limited when having to write in such books - knowing I always wanted to write more and just couldn’t really.

I decided to make a guest book with some engagement photos. I put in plenty of blank pages, but also made some photo pages to allow for writing. I’m hoping guests will think of it as a year book and write lovely sentiments and well wishes. And every time we just want to glance through the pics, we’ll see funny stories, jokes, and warm sentiments to boot (though I also made a more inclusive e-book with pictures of us from the time we dated up to production of the book).

Pretty, Nachos! Is the book for St. Thomas and the hometown party? If so, it should collect its own passport stamps!

So cute Nacho’s.. you could totally add a pop of color, and cover the inside cover with a nice textured piece of cardstock.. just make sure to cover the inside of the back cover too so that they match :)
Looks great!

Ooh, nice job sprucing it up! I like Curleysue’s suggestion - maybe pick up some pretty patterned paper and glue it to the inside over the holes? Or customize it with your names or something? :D

@mandstan: We’re bringing it to both…I love the idea of it getting it’s own passport stamp!

And good call on the scrapbook/colored paper/names idea everyone!

LOVE that! I’m so picky about things like this, and I can never seem to find a pre-made anything I like! I’ll probably end up doing the same thing lol. Your guestbook looks gorgeous, I especially love the ribbon flower!

My aunt gifted us a plain (and may I also mention, used) gift card box that is bright white (no white in our wedding at all, other than that) with lots of yellowing spots, and oh, yes did I mention it’s also falling apart? Apparently though, she’d be very upset if we didn’t use it. *sigh* We are going to attempt to cover it in a much prettier fabric, and ribbon. Wish me luck!

I too bought a plain guestbook and this was an awesome idea on how to spruce it up! Thanks! Your embellishment really adds to the fanciness!
